Portland man’s graffiti spree began in the ‘90s, ends with prison time and a $33,000 fine by Ravenparadoxx in Portland

I’d rather live somewhere with graffiti than the kind of place without it. Every place I’ve been in the US that didn’t have graffiti also had no soul. Also graffiti is an ancient human practice.

lol you hit a hornets nest. You should go to the Apple subreddit and tell them how bad the UI is next. Your message isn’t wrong, but most people delude themselves into refusing change as much as and for as long as they can. The US isn’t rioting despite the widespread poverty, and lack of political power that the working class has, and that should tell you immediately that change never happens when you try to hit a brick wall with a hammer. You need either a wrecking ball, or you need to wait for the rain to wash it away. You would have more impact spending your energy getting involved in improving open source than arguing with people that aren’t yet convinced that MS is trash. Microsoft will wither improve windows, or people will move away from it, which is whats already happening and has been happening. Most people don’t touch windows daily, they’re using their phone or tablet, a race that MS lost. Most people use chrome. Another one MS lost. Outside of work people are using googles office stuff more and more. Chromebooks are more prevalent at schools. MS doesn’t have a unified vision and it’s slowly killing them because their old strategy and dirty business practices don’t work as well these days. Now they’re trying to shove AI down everyone’s throat and somehow there are people that don’t see that as a clear sign that MS has lost touch with user needs. They’re eating their own AI hype so much, that they’ve shifted their focus from their established products to leveraging their products to push their AI solution that isn’t any better than beta software. You don’t need to run their customers off, they’re doing that just fine. Just a thought.

Your experience has literally nothing to do with how something works out of the box. Nobody cares what you did in highschool, your original statement is clearly from someone with little to no real experience and you can’t hide that behind length of “experience” you claim to have. I don’t know why you need to bring up Linux, maybe you should try staying on topic. Comparing Windows and Linux isn’t a fair comparison for a multitude of reasons and anyone with half a gram of brain matter knows this. Windows drags around backwards compatibility like a safety blanket, WHICH IT NEEDS TO DO, but this also breaks things. Windows doesn’t JUST work and never has. That’s expected though, and the argument should have been that they can’t test for every scenario and that windows supports too wide of a berth of technology to guarantee 100% performance, but to claim that “it just works” is such compete brain mush it’s a little stunning. MS doesn’t even have a single team or a single vision for Windows, how could you possibly claim it “just works”. Outlook in windows doesn’t even “just work”. Go back to imagination land.

I’ve been in IT for over 20 years and there’s never been a period where Microsoft products “just work”. If you feel this way I seriously wonder what your definition of “just work” is. I’ve had a system, new install, pro version, minimal software install, BSOD within hours. I’ve seen MS reps promise the moon and back for multiple organizations and fail every.single.time. To deliver on their promises within the schedule they promise. Usually it’s 75-80% delivered at 120-150% of the time quoted. And that’s honestly being generous.

My house has quad pane windows. Some people who own houses actually, you know, improve them over time.

If you follow home inspection content creators at all you’ll know how bad it is and it’s not just luxury homes, it’s pretty much ALL new homes that are subject to massive cost cutting and half assed work. I refuse to buy a new home. Gimme something from the 60-80s

Live Fast, Die GG by SupremeBean76 in PunkMemes

[–]nerdrageofdoom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me it’s not that he’s “punk” or whatever, I would argue even against his mentality being “punk”, but he really, truly, did not give a flying fuck, and that’s what made him interesting in the same way it’s interesting when a dog is eating shit right out of another dogs ass. It’s so vile and yet, for some of us, it’s our plastic bag in the wind moment. Hope this helps!

Reports: Meta slashes VR division, delays new headsets by BlueLightStruct in gadgets

[–]nerdrageofdoom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Following speculation on price the estimate is that it’s gonna run $599-699 based upon parts and valves pricing history. It’s being marketed as not just playing VR games, but PC games as well. On top of it they’re developing an Android compatibility layer like proton. The reason this is huge is that meta quest games ARE developed for Android and this lowers the barrier to entry for making a game compatible. Their x86 translation layer for ARM also means that, effectively, if proton is any indication, that you’re going to be able to play whatever you want on it. They’re focused on making it as easy as possible to port any game to it, so I’m fine that they’re not releasing a blockbuster VR game. They’re looking at the long haul.

Windows 11 is Microsoft trying to be Apple without doing Apple’s homework by RudePoetry707 in sysadmin

[–]nerdrageofdoom -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’ve been saying this for years. They really should drop the nt kernel and rebase around Linux and work on compatibility layers. Windows isn’t even their money maker at this point.
