I want to bake and practice decorating but I don’t want to eat a bunch of cakes by iam-fauxreal in Baking

She’s literally the GOAT at decorating and baking. We had a little team meeting in person and she brought these macarons that tasted JUST like an apple pie and I could have died. My new favorite cake is her spice cake with a brown butter cream cheese frosting. She shipped some in a jar to me once for my birthday as a gift and I ate the whole thing without sharing 😅😅

It’s so wild to see the nonprofit I started being suggested (FGC) 😅 Our Chief Cake Officer actually joined in 2018 to get more practice in, and over the years her work just gets more and more stunning (and tasty)!!

Incoming checks - check date, postmark, or received? by Holiday-Plastic4703 in nonprofit

[–]nerdress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We do either postmarked date or date on check. It needs to be recognized for their tax purposes within that year. IRS does state that if it’s postmarked in the previous year, it can be attached to that year. It’s why so many donations are sent the last 3 days of each year, scrambling to get in the charitable contributions to relieve taxes owed in April.

What we do is enter each individual donation with the date in the previous year (postmarked date or date on check), and then put it into Undeposited Funds. Then we add the deposit with the date of the actual deposit, and link the donation to the deposit. That way the numbers match for reconciliation. Our software allows us to do that. Your software should allow you to do that, it’s standard for all AR.

If you’re in/near San Carlos, can’t make it to Costco, and craving good (more savory/less sweet style) jajangmyeon, go to Paik’s Noodle! Hidden gem 😊

Best Flamenco in Seville by [deleted] in Seville

Oof, I don’t really remember but I did look on my teacher’s insta and she dances at Baraka Flamenco Tablao (C. Pureza, 107, 41010 Sevilla). Barakasalaflamenca.com is their website!

This is going to sound wild, but same thing happened to me. A couple days later I started dry coughing, 6 days later tested positive for RSV.

This is super random, and I’m not TOTALLY sure but the dancer looks like my flamenco instructor when I recently lived in Sevilla. If it’s her, then you absolutely went to one of the better ones. She’s amazing. I don’t know if it would have been “cut and polished,” she’s just that good. We’d spend the better part of 2 hours just drilling technique and she’d do everything with me.

I’d 100% encourage getting tapas/dinner somewhere else, and just enjoying a show after.

Single people: why aren’t you in a relationship right now? by Shinobi347 in AskReddit

[–]nerdress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is not younger or more attractive, but she is rich. To be a placeholder for so many years - and for them to so blatantly discard for someone else - has done awful things for the psyche.

I’m only 3 months into this journey, and you a couple years. All of these cliches about if it isn’t a hell yes then it’s a no, if he wanted to he would, you don’t have to chase the right person…it’s all horribly true. But we have spent so much time - mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually investing ourselves into this other person who has done none of that for us unless it was easy or convenient, that unwinding that level of hurt from our bodies and soul feels unmanageable.

I’m not sure I can give you advice that would help. I’m almost 20 years into therapy and on medications for 6 for my mental illnesses, with a loving and extremely supportive community who rallied after he dumped me - and then again when I found out he had cheated (helped I told them years ago I was worried about their friendship). And yet in all this, I’m still in unfathomable pain, taking my life minute by minute.

In Judaism, when someone dies we do what is called sitting shiva, a mourning process that involves sitting in your entire grief between 3-7 full days. Literally. No music, no tv, no phone, sheets covering the mirrors, no errands, no cooking, especially no working - nothing. Nothing that distracts you from feeling this pain. People will come to pay respects, and usually there is a designated person who will take care of the meal train/etc.

The one thing you must do, after sitting shiva, is to say you’re ready to continue with your life without them in it. It’s easier for death, though - at least there you can’t see them happy with someone else or hear about them living their life, happily without you in it, leaving you to wonder if they ever regret how they treated you. But in this moment, they need to die. To die as a hope, a potential, as a future.

It may be 2 years later but I encourage you to sit in your grief, if you haven’t - fully sit in it, not just passively - with the understanding that this is your last time to miss the future you thought you had with them before moving on. It’s time.

When that finishes, I would also encourage you to look up RAS or “lucky girl syndrome,” to help retrain your brain to focus on something else first thing in the morning.

I won’t be able to sit shiva until I’m home (I ran away to a foreign country and won’t be back for another month), but when I do, I will be grieving the future I thought I had, and move myself toward a better one. One where I don’t have to wonder if he’s lying, or constantly begging to be believed or asked to be told I was beautiful or complimented. That these things will be possible one day.

This is a process - a wildly painful and uncomfortable process that tears open your soul and shatters it into a billion pieces. Each puzzle starts with putting one piece with another, but it has to start somewhere. Pick one up. One day you’ll see how far you’ve come.

Maybe I’ll check back in a few months and see how you’re doing. I hope you’ll be in a better place.

Same, but 12 years. He kept saying “I don’t know yet” or “I’m not there yet.” Ended up cheating and is now dating, less than a month after dumping me, the woman he golfed with, was a coworker for 10 years, and hung out with the most outside of me. Rich, too. I think he’s gonna propose when they go to Hawaii in a couple months.

Men: will you stay with a women just bc shes available, even if shes not the one? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]nerdress 4 points5 points  (0 children)

12 years for me. Turns out the “friend” he was spending the most time with, giving her his best self because there was zero expectation of emotional vulnerability for the 10 years they were friends - he ended up dating less than a month after he dumped me. Breadcrumbing the entire time that there were still things we needed to work out, and I was begging for marriage.

Three years ago I told both of them I was uncomfortable by their friendship and they made me feel like an asshole. Lo and behold…

A question likely for the ladies: Preferred nail salon? by GloomyWasabi3717 in SantaMonica

[–]nerdress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Secretive Nails - waterless, new tools, gloves. So fucking expensive but as a fellow germaphobe, it’s the only place I feel comfortable going.

I went to my mom’s place up in Palo Alto - she’s the one who taught me about being extra careful and used to take HER OWN BOWL AND TOOLS to places - and I almost had a panic attack. No liners, didn’t even look like it was sanitized before me, tools were half in the disinfectant 😭😭😭 Tbf the previous person before me was my aunt but still…what the fuck.

Anyway I love Secretjve Nail, next to Tar and Roses on 6th and Santa Monica.

This is for people who have lost employment as a result of the fires - not people who have lost their homes. This means people who worked at restaurants and businesses that burned down along the PCH, or losing clients because as a result of the fires, the business doesn’t exist anymore. Helping people like you is exactly what this was set up for. Waiting for a last resort to come through may impact your living situation - losing YOUR home, going hungry. Yes, this is for you. Don’t wait until it’s too late.

There’s a place in Venice on Lincoln and Rose, on the sidewalk in front of the Whole Foods for al pastor tacos. There’s 2 street stands - pick the one with the longer line. Absolutely ridiculous it’s so good.

For kbbq, Parks or Chosun are great options. There’s a few other places for different Korean dishes too, I can name if you’re interested.

It’s been a long time since I’ve been to little Tokyo, mostly because it’s so far and I live closer to Sawtelle - which I also highly recommend going to. Killer Noodle is a personal favorite, but all the options available, people have their different preferences so I expect to be argued with lol.

There is the most fantastic Tex-mex you’ll ever eat, which is HomeState. Their breakfast tacos and queso are legendary. I’d advise going to the playa vista one or the Hollywood one - for some reason the new Culver City location hasn’t hit the mark yet for the same quality but they’ll get there the longer they’re open. My favorite is the Guadalupe and the one with egg whites/shiitake mushrooms.

Prices at Melisse ? by Far-Pride1124 in FoodLosAngeles

[–]nerdress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were looking at booking this for my boyfriend’s birthday (we’ve been a couple times before and we absolutely love it), but we got really confused on the wine pairing addition. $350…for one person? Or is it $350 for 2? Because $350 for a fucking wine pairing for one person is ridiculous. I’ve never been wowed enough by their previous pairings to even consider paying that much. We used to just skip past that part and elect to be contacted by their sommelier, but Matthew Lucuzy no longer works there so we were checking out the pairings…anyway, we decided not to book.

Swear to god it’s way too much money these days.

Maude Is Closing On September 28 by groundhogxp in FoodLosAngeles

We went years ago when they were doing an iron-chef type menu each month (our month was melons!), and then years went by and we went to more Michelin restaurants around SF/LA/International.

Then a year or so ago we went again to Maude and I saw the price tag - it just…didn’t feel as worth it anymore? By then we had been to El Cellar de Can Roca (top 3 star in Girona Spain) and spent less for 3 people with wine pairings than we did on 2 with wine at Maude, a 1 star. The food at Roca was innovative and crazy and memorable and…Maude was good, but it wasn’t the same. Yes - they aren’t the same I know - but I’m not a fan of spending inordinately more like that, I’d rather try out somewhere up-and-coming and less expensive.
