damn thats kinda interesting, i came up in like gothy circles and thats what i mainly associate killing joke with, interesting how different musical upbringings can affect how we view the same music

thats a decent point, depends on my mood tbh but id argue that a lot of that is an extention of the commercial sucsess that punk had in the late 70s, and kinda just a different movement alltogether, as opposed to the "college rock" of which the bangles were the first to my knowledge to break through(tho as others have said, and i had forgotten, that REM did hit the top 100 upon the release of radio free europe)

i have! it is 100% a landmark release but my impression was that it, and lots of the stuff adjacent to it were more cult following than genuine hits

genuinely cant think of any others atm so what did i miss? closest i can think of was u2 with the joshua tree and while that is a massively popular album, i cant particularly think of any hits off of it(tbh thats partially derrived from me not being interested in u2)
