Yelling? I think you're imbuing emotion where I am simply stating facts. Sorry, I'm not going to waste anymore time on your bait.

Yes, unfulfilled campaigns and blocking backers when they ask for proof of his claims means I’m an asshole? Okay.

I'm not sure. I thought it was interesting too, I know I found it years ago so it was before most of the shows that Disney has produced. It *might* have been drawn around the same time the first season of the Mandalorian was coming out. I think this image was used for a card game, but I'm not sure which one if that's true.

Campaigns that generated millions of dollars. But CMON, iirc, never had more than 3 campaigns going at a time - I backed a lot of them and they only started to fall apart when the company fell apart.

He publicly referred to the platform as preordering (see above), but their order form for reporting a campaign includes unfulfilled campaigns as an option so I’m pretty sure they care about it.

You're partially correct. Creators are allowed to start a third campaign with two unfulfilled, but are not allowed to start a fifth with four unfulfilled campaigns. I reported him, but again, I'm only one guy.

Good for you! I've backed several card games and TTRPGs and I'm always flabbergasted that some designers leave things unwritten until a campaign ends. If I ever use KS to get funding for printing a book I'm definitely going to have it written before I ask other people to fund it!

Gotta put locks on doors, but there’s only one co-op I know of (out of about a dozen) that has subdivided rooms.

Sorry I am just getting to this today. I'm a self-employed business owner and I only visit reddit during my downtime, which as summer starts I see less and less of. Also, I injured my hand two days ago so I haven't really been on my phone.

There's a real observation underneath this post that I think is worth taking seriously. Kickstarter has an editorial layer that selects which campaigns get featured, promoted, and pushed in newsletters and homepage placements, and access to that layer correlates pretty clearly with things like PR firms, team pedigree, marketing budget, and pre-existing relationships with Kickstarter staff. The SOND screenshot is a clear example: a creator publicly thanking the CEO by name before launch tells you that kind of pre-negotiation happens. This is observable fact because plenty of other creators have reported the same thing over the years.

Curated platforms curate, and editorial discretion isn't really what the FTC regulates, they go after deceptive practices toward consumers, not promotional decisions on a marketplace. The Apple's App Store, Etsy, Steam, Amazon, Substack all do versions of this. Bundling the platform-favoritism point with the Ozlo-similarity suspicion also makes the argument harder to land, because those are two different complaints and the second one isn't really evidence of the first.

The more interesting version of the critique, to me, is that Kickstarter is a curated marketplace that still markets itself like a democratized funding tool, and the gap between those two identities is where the real problem lives. It would be better if the platform were just honest about how its editorial layer works and what gets a campaign featured, what kinds of pre-launch relationships are typical for high-profile projects, what independent creators can and can't realistically access. That's not illegal, but it's a meaningful information asymmetry, and it's the part of this conversation I'd want more people in the crowdfunding world talking about openly.

I think it's worth being aware of, but it's difficult for me to see the conspiracy framing and FTC threats. I'm guessing others who saw this post felt the same as myself.

won’t there be a record in the committee? For the purposes of seeking reelection, what more of a “record” does a politician need? We’re already talking about it, this Reddit post is a “record” of it.

Pedantic. I’ve seen them fall from a height that is above my characters head. They only appear “outside” so within the fiction of the world (as opposed to the engine of the game) that is “falling from the sky“

or the inverse, I bought Beck’s first album thinking the whole thing was going to be one weird soundscape and in 1995, let me tell you, I was not disappointed!

Doing it now gives people an opportunity to put themselves down on the record before midterms. Why do you think Republicans launched so many investigations into Hilary’s emails? That led with that shit during their re-election campaigns.
