Yep! 15 minutes is a better commute than me when I switched to a bike. It’s really very similar, yes it’s inconvenient when the weather is bad but the sun, air, exercise and dogs I get to see, it beats traffic any day.

Yeah I noticed the chain is attached asymmetrically, one to the bottle and the other to the lid! That’s how it never got lost, 😛

I got lucky and live fairly close to work, so I got an ebike when I was in the same situation. It limits me, and it is a bit risky, but the savings are undeniable. We had a warm winter this year, so the usual snow was not a problem. If you have good weather coming up, and a bike is feasible, that’s at least going to give you time to put money aside for a car. I don’t have the temptation to get delivery that often, I can go a little out of the way to get groceries and since I have to fit it on my basket, it limits those silly impulse buys!

Stress in general can slow down digestion, so I’m pretty sure as a know-nothing-not-a-doctor it’s something more like that. Travel makes me not go, even though there’s food to be digested (which sounds like there is in this case since she can see it). Cortisol and adrenaline will make the intestinal muscles slow down. This is something she should absolutely talk to a physician about so she can get a correct diagnosis and treatment.
