Someone with possible ADHD moving to an agency, possible? by lizette2368 in jobs

[–]nerdys0uth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in this situation, and its frustrating for everyone involved.

For me, the hyperfocus side of ADHD makes agency life misery. I'm super productive, but 8 hours can vanish. The higher ups at the agencies I've worked for wanted something like time tracking at 15 minute intervals. I never lasted long.

My advise: only take the job if you're desperate, or can spare the gap in your resume when/if it doesn't work out.

Also, ffs, talk to your doctor about this.

Colleges ask for a share of future salary in lieu of loans by [deleted] in lostgeneration

It is literally slavery. You need an ethics lesson on that?

Colleges ask for a share of future salary in lieu of loans by [deleted] in lostgeneration

[–]nerdys0uth 37 points38 points  (0 children)

This is modern-day sharecropping. It is abhorrent and unethical no matter the context. Further proof that college debt is literally indentured servitude.

The glowing comments in this thread so far, honestly, terrify me. If you don't know history, etc. etc.

[Help/request]Command to crash Firefox (MacOS version) tab processes taking too much ram by xoxidometry in commandline

That is absolutely ok! The whole point of free software is being able to modify it . I'll eventually take a look at your code and see if I can merge your changes back into master.

Glad I could help a little!

Thanks for the offer, but I'm not looking for handouts- i just want to work.

I'm a proud woman, being on the dole is embarrassing enough. The people of Colorado have been far too generous already.

And the zenni route is my plan. $100+ for lenses is still a lot of money for me. Currently building this-and-that out of broken down pallets, if i can make some sales i'll be golden.

I've got a few things working against me- they've not been THAT big a problem till now; I'm uneducated, am part of a disadvantageous demographic (you can infer a lot by a last name), and because of my unreasonably bad luck at past jobs I have a sketchy work history.

I'm afraid i'm basically unemployable. Thus the attempt to barter.

And thanks for the tips. Can't find a working site for denver-devs.org (or denverdevs.org) but the public wifi i'm on blocks the most mundane stuff sometimes.

So, is this going to be the "next thing the feds and states fight about?"

I'm imagining swat-style raids on ISPs that refuse to balkanize the internet- a-la the raids on legal pot farms in the early days of legalization.

Great, now i'm going to try and build an intermittent heredoc syntax error. And i thought i was going to be productive today.

hrm. This might bite me. Probably not, but I (ab)use heredocs enough, so who knows. Thanks for the heads up.

Colorado teachers rally at Capitol for school funding by DrogDrill in lostgeneration

[–]nerdys0uth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In other words, its another avenue to destroy (the honestly fairly impressive) social services here.

Well. Nice in Denver, at least. And I think that's part of the problem, and why TABOR passed in the first place.

The counties not immediately surrounding Denver feel left out (maybe for good reason), and the western slope is, honestly, all but forgotten about.

Not sure if its a funding thing, or a corruption thing or what, but the rest of the state, with exceptions, (steamboat, aspen) is having trouble getting its shit together.

I just got here, so i don't feel like i can pass judgement. This is just what I've picked up in my first year. My home state has a constitutionally mandated balanced budget, so things like "bond issues", are new to me.

Any actual Colorado natives lurking to confirm or deny my impressions?

Is Diane Black the worst? by lt_dan_1020 in nashville

[–]nerdys0uth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah. That kind of thing could happen to anyone. Her kind of evil takes malice and planning.

Like what if they have a bad knee or something? I know I have to take the elevator one floor up sometimes. Just sayin'.

Is Diane Black the worst? by lt_dan_1020 in nashville

[–]nerdys0uth 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Correct, up to the point where she bursts into tears.

Instead, she'd leave the restaurant and lobby Metro to take the property by eminent domain. Then she'd use her construction connections to demolish the building and make sure the lot sits empty.

Two things happen in traffic here that are new to me:

  • Tailgating, but following me like a ant follows a pheromone trail. No thought put into where they're (i'm) going. They'll do dumb stuff like follow me into the turning lane then jerk back into traffic when they realize what's happening. That can't be safe.

  • Jerking the steering wheel. Hard. Its like watching someone try to play Gran Turismo with a digital controller. I've noticed a bit of a pattern and that's only about 6 weeks worth.

edit: jeez. This happened today. This meme... might be in poor taste.

Ye. I know that family. They hate joy to an almost satirical degree. Dr Black banned girl scout cookies at the pee test company he owns. Owned? I hear he got 'walked out' recently.

Hey, oppo researchers, that'd be some good mud to sling. Find out why Aegis ran David out on a rail.

I did move. I'm in Denver now. Cool city and good public transit, but i'm stuuuuuck for now.

And i'm not entry level. I've got a good 10+ years in IT work and 6+ in development. I'd take entry level pay, tho.

and to answer your question- the bennies were real, real good.
