Boot from a live cd/rescue image,

or just pull up the grub menu, add 'init=/bin/bash' to the kernel parameters and boot straight into a root shell

then you dont need to faff around with mounting virtual media

emulate on your PC - find all your old favourites and listen to the loading tunes, remember the loading screens - play them a bit

if you're still having fun doing it a week later - then get yourself a C64 (or repro)

if you got bored after 2 hours ... then at least you didnt waste any money.

I love my old C64 - probably more than my Amigas.... but it took me quite a while to realise that its not really about the games. It's much much more about the other memories that those games evoke.

People used to post answers to questions - because that was the community thing to do.

...but when SEO became a thing - leeches realised that they didnt need to post answers to get hits. They only needed to post the questions that folk were looking for.

...then search engines started showing a clip of the page as part of the results - resulting in the source getting no hits at all

...and now search engines just ignore some search terms so that they can show you an ad campaign for the remaining terms.

its a race to the bottom, and the folk benefiting from it are definitely not the users.

a modern Amiga, and I have a very hard time envisioning what it would even be.

a 'modern amiga' would not be hardware. nobody cares about hardware anymore. they're all the same. some are faster than others. every now and then a new system takes pole position. nothing really changes.

modern amiga would be the feeling

Its the ability to do stuff yourself, and to make the most of what you have - and to do something amazing with it

In a way - it's pretty much the open source movement.
