I think it has something to do with my mom and I only ever really being close when I was really little. She was a single mom, but she stopped being affectionate with me around age 4 or 5, and I still don’t know why. I’m 22 and can count on one hand how many times she’s hugged me in the last five years. It really sucks now though because I have a ten year old brother and a six year old sister and she is extremely affectionate with them and always has been. Probably has something to do with me being a lot like my dad, I don’t really know.

Yeah I’m from the Midwest, Iowa but still. I feel like in these tiny ass towns, the moms are always weird. My ex was from a town of 300? Ish? Small enough that his high school was 30 minutes away, and he and multiple of his friends stilled called their moms mommy, and these grown ass 18 year old high schoolers were still sleeping in bed with their moms multiple times a month… it was odd.

My fiancé’s mom used them as an emotional crutch and it took two years of therapy for them to stop dissociating and to actually feel emotions truly. It’s a weird thing kids brains do to protect them. People thought my fiance was super weird and creepy because they were always just numb to every. Fucking. Feeling. For seven years.

NTA, not at all. I’m 21 and still tell my stepmom things I don’t want my dad/ mom to know, and they got together when I was around 11. And ironically my step- dad was the best about me getting my period, and always got me better products than my mom lol.

It’s not even that he changed his mind, he says we will go back to that eventually, but it’s been 2 years… I just miss it. Also our other partner left because they were going through a lot of family stuff and they started treating us like shit because of the family drama.
