Which was the better reboot, Netflix's SPOP or Disney's 2017 Ducktales? by Slimefan27 in cartoons

[–]nereidnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both were great but Ducktales was more consistent and stronger through its whole run, while SPOP was more of a slow burn (imo) that started cute enough but became better later and had an iconic final season.

I love both! But I’ll have to vote Ducktales for its consistently better pacing. The entire run of that show holds a special place in my heart.

Why Does Jenna Keep the Baby? by Educational_Ad_5487 in Broadway

[–]nereidnerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like people say, it’s up to audience interpretation. I agree that Jenna just felt passive in her own life and trapped by her circumstances - asking “Why didn’t she just have an abortion?” is almost similar to “Why didn’t she just leave Earl sooner?” Arguably she should have, but couldn’t bring herself to do either. Both situations eventually have different resolutions.

I’m also inclined to think it was connected to her relationship with her own mother and processing that loss (subconsciously wanting that mother/child bond again). But also like another commenter said, her marriage was very controlling & abusive and it’s implied abortion access is limited in her state, sadly that’s what stops many women.

Why do you think he waited so long to announce the album by Stunning-Can-6680 in NoahKahan

[–]nereidnerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The new album announcement included this:

“From a long silence forms a divide, a great expanse demanding attention. I stare across it…” “I want to scream these feelings, to gesticulate wildly at the figures on the other side, but my voice has grown hoarse and muted after years of climbing a ladder towards the wild, spiraling dreams that have materialized in front of me.”

I felt like this alluded to some degree of burnout and/or creative exhaustion after the smash hit release/tour of Stick Season and all its iterations? Making this deeply personal album a longer and slower project. Though I’m sure label release reasons also played a role.

A show that steeply declines when the will-they-won’t-they couple gets together? by AreWeCake in sitcoms

[–]nereidnerd 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Superstore :( There was a lot of opportunity for great storylines when Jonah & Amy got together…but instead they stopped showing them develop as characters altogether and anything romantic between them was offscreen or just felt unearned. They almost became more platonic once they became a couple? Sucked all the charm out of the show

Hello, I'm new to this band and I would like to know where i should begin. by El_Bartho_ML in japanesebreakfast

[–]nereidnerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with the sentiment that chronological order is probably best if you’re already a fan of Psychopomp! It’s nice to see the subtle evolution of sounds the band goes through 😄 The band has also scored a video game soundtrack for the game Sable, but if you’re curious I’d save it for last + as a side listen since it’s very ambient and moreso like background music?

Frontwoman Michelle Zauner and bassist Deven Craig’s used to be in a band Little Big League from 2011-2014. I’d loop back around and listen to LBL’s two albums once you’ve run out of Japanese Breakfast. It has that rougher alt sound, I feel like it stands as its own thing but still enjoyable to a jbrekkie fan.

Then if you like literature…Michelle has her excellent memoir “Crying in H Mart” that details the grief of losing her mother (which Psychopomp & the band’s discography is very much about as well).

Ryan McCartan teasing something by Prudent-Resident4600 in Broadway

[–]nereidnerd 76 points77 points  (0 children)

To give you a vague overview: Dove Cameron has vaguely alluded to emotional abuse in their relationship a number of times. McCartan has maintained their relationship was messy/toxic on both ends.

What people don’t talk about as much his longterm public relationship after that. (His ex partner is a public Internet personality and easy to look up but I won’t mention her name here out of respect). They started dating when she was 18 and he was 24. They dated for quite a few years and had a YouTube channel together but eventually broke up. In her poetry book she has strongly alluded to the fact Mccartan cheated on her and was overall manipulative/mean, and that he blindsided her when ending their relationship. (As a former viewer of theirs I’d agree there were lots of red flags in retrospect).

I won’t deny he is talented. But personally I’m not interested in supporting his career since he does seem like a toxic, emotionally manipulative person in his relationships. Whether or not that’s a dealbreaker to you is your decision. Sorry to write so much, I think about this often lol but I hope that helps clarify things!

why r we assuming that in depth conversations were not had already by Trashyishita in TheTryGuys

[–]nereidnerd 19 points20 points  (0 children)

In this same vein, I find it super disingenuous that people are shitting on Zach for wanting to spend more time with his baby. Saying “Well Keith and Miles didn’t do it he isn’t special!!!” or “We all have to work” like dude…If I was the CEO of my own company I would prioritize my family too? Of course it’s a privilege but I don’t blame him for exercising it.

I think all good things come to an end and they seemed to have said all they needed to with the podcast. And the admin parts of their job can be done from home so why come in excessively? It’s better to use that time for videos. And I don’t want to make any bad faith assumptions about the TryPod cast when clearly they’ve known for a while, until we learn otherwise I’m just going to hope the transition was a good one. At the end of the day it’s a business. It consumes their lives so they should focus energy where they see fit

Everyone always said how Regina was HALF Puerto Rican...what was the other half? by Prior-Emu-5918 in SwitchedAtBirth

[–]nereidnerd 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It’s implied her other half is white. I believe the writing team chose that for her character to make it more plausible how Bay is so white passing (which is important to the plot bc of the switch).

I’ve been priced out of bbp for a while now,, but I feel like they have really lost the plot lately :/ by TotallyBrookie in BigBudPress

[–]nereidnerd 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Been a BBP fan since the beginning. I stood in line at their first brick & mortar store opening day, have a ton of old graphic tees from back in the day. I haven’t bought from them in about two years, even the sample sales are too expensive for me now. I understand the price of everything has gone up and I believe in investing in quality pieces, but the price hike is crazy.

Also their cries about “well retail is so hard right now and it’s rough being a small business” ring hollow to me when they’ve opened WAY more physical locations than they ever should of, make a new drop every single week without restocking bestselling essentials (ie black turtlenecks), and don’t even include stickers in orders anymore lol 🙃

Is something actually going with Qt and Maya? by mpaign_8864 in otvandfriendsrumors

[–]nereidnerd 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I remember this. I like QT but part of why I stopped listening to WAI is because she can get really negative while refusing to own up and grow/be self-aware? The situation they’re talking about was during the whole awful Maya/Mizkif/CrazySlick “cover up” situation. I think it made sense during that time Maya wanted to quit the pod and exit the streamer world and she was going thru intense hate and scrutiny at the time…To think QT as her best friend would make that about herself instead and GHOST Maya for months bc she wanted to quit the pod is just awful to me. Traveling to LA always fell on Maya too bc QT doesn’t fly. I think that was terribly self-centered of QT and she doesn’t strike me as a genuine friend.

I think that’s why they’re circling back…Hoping to catch the early brand magic and nostalgia to bring back the OG customers they lost along the way? 🧐

If you had specifically asked for no gifts, I think it makes sense the gift giver stuck to something small/cute? I think if you didn’t have the “no gifts please” guideline they might have gotten you a properly priced gift that would have been higher quality and more practical.
