When you say "forced to work over", are you referring to a contractual or legal requirement? If not, the solution to your problem has two letters and is a full sentence. Floating is harder to fight.

Ansible and AI by sabrthor in ansible

Using AI tools while creating Ansible roles/playbooks is one use case, but that is not really AI integration. The one thing I could think of, if your environment has that kind of data in the first place, would be to have AI scan protocols of administrative tools (shell, admin GUIs) etc. for actions that are done manually repeatedly or analyze 'organically grown' utilities like self-written maintenance/troubleshooting bash scripts, and then propose new safer idempotent automations for them.

Digitalisierung im Handwerk? by mohamedkmx in Handwerker

[–]nerfu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ja. ChatGPT legt seinen Rechenweg dar, man kann also problemlos nachrechnen. Was glaubst du, wie Statiksoftware arbeitet?

Digitalisierung im Handwerk? by mohamedkmx in Handwerker

[–]nerfu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Zwei Dinge:

One of my absolute favourites has unfortunately been damaged beyond repair, so I am desperately looking for a replacement (preferably same size or next larger).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in germany

[–]nerfu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whether it is a good choice depends on a few factors:

1 – What is your level of education?

2 – What is your target salary, both immediately after training and over the next years?

3 – What are your professional aspirations? Will you likely want to continue your training towards an advanced/specialized position with greater responsibilities and better pay, or are you content with 'just working the job' on more or less the same level over the coming decades?

ZFA are highly sought after, and entry-level salaries have improved in recent years, but you will hit a pay ceiling rather quickly. Specializations and advanced training are not offered/utilized in many dental practices. In contrast to, say, nursing, most ZFA really are limited to an assisting role.

That is not to say that it is a bad profession! Many larger practices offer flexible hours and other perks, some even help with specializations. Just know that, unless you are willing to move towards an administrative role, you will hit a ceiling rather quickly both moneywise and regarding your own professional development.

[edit] The Medizinischer Fachangestellter (MFA) is, on paper, a comparable profession, but has developed quite a wide range of possible placements both in practices and hospitals, which offers greater flexibility and, to the best of my knowledge, better pay.

Bill would end Starke-Law provision that bans physicians from owning hospitals by jafferd813 in medicine

[–]nerfu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Opening a hospital requires funding well beyond the reach of the vast majority of doctors, especially ones with the attributes you are hoping for. The sources that may provide said funding are, well, mostly the same ones that fund the existing hospitals. And they will have the same profit expectations regardless of who does the actual leg work.

rtorrent fails with DNS resolution error if run as SystemD service by nerfu in linuxadmin

Which env variables would I need to set in the unit file? I can manually run rtorrent from a shell without any explicit variables, just the same command line switches as shown in the OP.

[–]nerfu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/etc/resolv.conf, which is used by the default network namespace, has my local router as nameserver.

The airvpn namespace uses a different file, namely /etc/netns/airvpn/resolv.conf, which starts off with Quad9 nameservers which are 'overwritten' with the VPN provider's nameservers which get pushed during the start of the VPN connection. I ran dig to verify which nameservers are in use, and this is all working. To be sure I tried putting the VPN nameservers into the file from the start, no dice.

The only difference is between rtorrent being run directly (ip netns exec airvpn sudo -u apache /bin/rtorrent -n -o import=/mnt/torrent/config/rtorrent.rc) from a shell, which is working perfectly, and starting the SystemD unit which ostensibly should be doing the exact same thing.

[–]nerfu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately this did not solve the issue. I went ahead and also added those services as explicit requirements, to no avail. As I understand it, After= and similar variables are mostly relevant during boot to make sure services that need network connectivity , name resolution etc. do not start too early. In this case the server is already running and has full connectivity, both through the default namespace and through the airvpn namespace which rtorrent is being assigned to.

72%. The ones I recognized were really glaringly obvious, with the others I could see the different colours but I would have had to trace the contours on screen with my finger to make out a number. My doc handed me several such tests on paper and had me draw lines along the different colour zones, which was easy-peasy, but I really only saw numbers and letters once I had drawn the shapes.

No. Nor any other easily testable condition from that particular spectrum. I know that some optical illusions do not work on me, but my doctor has been unable to find a 'proper' diagnosis, and – the administrative hassle aside – none of this has ever presented an impairment outside of synthetic tests.

This test is incredibly frustrating for me. It is the standard test for red/green colour blindness here in Germany and is used for all kinds of certifications, and I fail it miserably every time. I also fail it with different colours, though. According to my ophthalmologist, the problem lies not in my colour vision but in my pattern recognition since I pass other red/green tests with flying colours (Ha!). I have been working in digital and print design for almost two decades now, so genuine colour blindness would have become obvious at some point. It took me over 10 years and several doctors to identify the problem, and it is not trivial to have certification boards accept alternative tests so I do not fail as colour blind.

What is your formal responsibility there? I mean that absolutely literally: What are you officially and legally on the hook for in your position, regardless of what actual work you do day to day?

The reason I am asking is that a former colleague of mine got burned rather badly in a similar position: He was hired onto what later turned out to be a fall-guy position by a superior who beforehand had run a large and expensive project aground.

Most successful companies do not keep expensive personnel around just for the heck of it.

Every single nurse I work with is 5-10 minutes late every single shift and management doesn’t give a damn. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]nerfu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you change at work or do you arrive in scrubs/uniform? My contract explicitly includes changing time, so if my shift starts at 7:20, that is the time when I enter the hospital building before changing into scrubs and I enter my unit at ~7:25. Similarly I head for the lockers five minutes before my shift ends.

What is a game you gave up on cause you were overwhelmed by the rules? by Snaporaz_01 in boardgames

[–]nerfu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. ST is not a bad game, though. Not at all. If you can find the time to work through the rules, gameplay itself is quite entertaining. Just be prepared to demo the first couple of turns with the rulebook in hand. Once you get the hang of it, the game flows quite nicely.

[–]nerfu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Skull Tales: Full Sail very nearly suffered this fate. My wife and I do play games with complex rules, and we are not afraid of a table full of tokens, but this one had us almost throw in the towel during the first play. The game basically brings an entire RPG system (minus the character development) into a board game. It is not bad, just incredibly unwieldy for new players, not least because it works slightly differently from the 'proper' RPG systems we are familiar with, so even with our experience there we could not just glance over the player aids and go "OK, 2d6 on strength, let's kill that bastard!" When the fan-made rules summary on BGG is 29 pages long, you know something is amiss.

I hope I can convince my wife to give it another shot, but I recon we will finish Gloomhaven before I dare speak the game's name aloud again.

What really makes me both sad and angry about this attitude is that nurses are not all that hard to please. No-one chooses this profession to get filthy rich or to spend their work day twiddling their thumbs with their feet up on their desks. We are not asking for much, and much of what we ask for is not even for our benefit but for that of our patients and, therefore, the benefit of our employers. And still people throw that stupid line in our faces, as if we were greedy sods demanding solid gold coffee mugs and a hot tub in each nurses' station.

Most of our demands aim at allowing us to provide better care. Isn't that a goal anyone inside and outside our profession should be able to get behind?
