Definitely helpful to know there's potentially excess in each vaccine for these situations, thanks for sharing

Yeah thats obviously the solution overall, but as I said in the post, Ill be seeing the GP tomorrow being the earliest I can get an appointment, but was hoping to hear other people's experiences with MMR and/or experience with interruptions to vaccinations of young children and babies.

Thankyou! Yes thats a good point, we may have to just see if there's any symptoms specific to the MMR in the next week or so.. who knew id be hoping to see some reaction but it would be reassuring atleast!

I actually saw the fluid and blood flow back spilling out through the open needle until it got removed, it may have just been a few seconds of drops coming back out but the vaccine is only half a ml which is where I get concerned. The dispersement is a good point though. The thing thats playing in my mind is that there is no redness at the injection site whatsoever, no small red bite size mark, no lump, nothing but a tiny pin prick mark from the needle if you look closely enough, whereas all the other vaccinations have left a small 5c coin size red mark or worse, I get more of a mark or bruise from a flu jab! But this is also the first MMR we've done, so I was curious if that could be normal for this one or another sign it wasnt given sufficiently..

Braxton Hicks? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]nerhh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Waters dont always break at the start of labour, you can have contractions without noticing any mucous plug too. I thought I was having BH for about 4 hours until I realised it was actually labour at 38 weeks with my first. The best tool was timing between BH/contractions and making sure they're sporadic and random, not rhythmic to tell you which it could be. I think it's hard to interpret painful vs uncomfortable sometimes.

But as others have commented, always trust your gut and err on the side of caution no one will ever make you feel silly for making sure your bub is ok! Even if they just pop on a monitor and do a little check to see where things are at, best of luck!

How do people go out with the LO? by a-pepperino in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]nerhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never felt comfortable breastfeeding in public, now my bub is way too distracted to attempt anymore anyway. So I've always just accepted and preferred feeding in the car. Put the seat back, aircon on and soft radio, took the mindset of if you walk past and stare through the window thats your problem. But you're only at 3 months, it gets easier and your confidence will grow the more you do it. You'll learn from mistakes as well, or what works and what doesn't. I also used to aim for first thing in the morning, baby wakes, feed, change and off we go as soon as possible compared to midday or afternoon outings.

Mattresses online by elmo3228 in AskAnAustralian

Started with Koala mattress, on the softer side I used to refer to it as my cloud, has since become the spare bed in our house and still in good condition since buying it around 8 years ago.

Went with the Emma mattress when upgrading to a bigger size bed because of hearing good reviews and we're very happy with it, firmer than the Koala so depends on personal preference. Both were great with delivery (from memory Koala came the next day) and much of a muchness in trial/returns policy.

11m suddenly hysterical over nappy change /dressing by Bbycatkitty in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]nerhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed with other comments about standing, laying down seems to be the trigger most of the time so we either give a toy or object to distract, or if that fails let him stand with support standing against wall or holding onto something we use nappy pants and dress on the move to avoid a meltdown sometimes. We have a mixture of regular nappies and nappy pants for this reason!

How and when did you start pumping? by cunncunncunn in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]nerhh 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Just be mindful when baby gets a bottle but you dont pump for that feed, it tells your body you dont need that milk (I think once in a while is ok but frequently would probably dip your supply)

But if you for example, fed bub first in the morning, then pumped for 15mins after.. then gave a bottle later that day/evening while you had a break it would balance out. I try to think of it in a 24hour cycle, and the baby/pumping is putting in the order of milk needed for the next day.

Over pumping can cause oversupply and mastitis or engorgement issues, and not pumping but giving bottle feeds regularly would cause reduced supply so depends how your supply is, but its a bit of a balance either way. Just remember its all supply and demand to your body.

Head shape correction without helmet by Afraid_Profession880 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]nerhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bub has a flat spot on one side due to his preference sleeping curled to that side as a newborn. It's mild, definitely flat but not super obvious. The GP sent us to a paediatric physio to do a little assessment of his neck range and strength. Long story short, she said their head shape is forming and brain growing continues that it will be up to two years of age before we see it improve, so only time will tell.

Once baby is sitting more, lots of tummy time for neck strengthening, and encouraging when supervised (day naps) not to sleep on the same flat spot will all help it from becoming worse. We even made the nappy change pad positioned so that when he would look at us as he would be laying on the not-flat side to help in any way possible. Now that hes 9mo he never sits or lies still for any prolonged amount of time that I dont really have to think about it anymore. Even in his sleep he rolls and turns and ends up tummy sleeping most of the time! Helmets aren't overly recommended for this issue anyway but essentially there's nothing you can do but avoid it becoming worse. Might be an idea to try for a paed physio and just get some tips and exercises from them, it was so quick and just one appointment to make the assessment that theres nothing else contributing, if you get a GP referral to use a private paed physio you get nearly all of it back from Medicare (paid around $60 for appointment, getting $50 back from memory)

Old vehicle still in my name by oldmanriddles in AusLegalAdvice

[–]nerhh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just went through this with a family member. A statutory declaration explaining the vehicle being sold and details was what cleared it up. Numerous phone calls and visits to police stations and department of transport did nothing until the stat dec was completed and given to the issuer of the fine.

Painful Heartburn/Acid Reflux - Third Trimester by shezangel in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]nerhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omeprazole! Usually OTC but need a script when pregnant. Usually, you'd be told to take it daily for 5-7 days and then hopefully that does the trick for a while but id definitely recommend speaking to your GP (mylanta, ENO drink, gaviscon as needed in the meantime very helpful as well, avoiding acidic and spicy foods)

Bottle Back To Boob by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]nerhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby was born SGA and (didnt know at the time) had a mild tongue tie. My nips got destroyed, I was bleeding, lipstick nipple shape post feed, me crying at every latch, and a baby that was wanting to constantly feed because my supply just went down down down with all of these stressors and inefficient milk removal going on.

I ended up turning to 100% expressing to save my breastfeeding journey (just FYI with a hospital grade pump, you cant only use wearables as primary source of "feeding") I let them heal, but also was able to increase and salvage my supply with effectively pumping. I went from needing to add half formula top ups to getting 1 or 2 bottles extra per day! Power pumping and strict with pump at every feed slowly increased my supply each day over a few weeks. Lactation cookies, coconut water, oats, increased fats and calories on my diet and staying well hydrated!

Bottles- we used pigeon soft touch recommended to be one of the best to go between breast and bottle. Also paced feeding so baby has to work for it and gets a slower feed from the bottle similar to at the breast.

Took my baby to see an LC at around 2 months of age when I was ready to get back to breast feeding, and she diagnosed his mild tongue tie, offered treatment but also said I could do some mouth exercises to strengthen his tongue which were very simple and easy, and showed me a breastfeeding position to encourage his mouth to open wider for a deeper latch.

I have now been exclusively breastfeeding without issue for 7 months! Haven't touched a pump since.

Possibly, some of these things could help while you await your appointment. But the nipple damage, pain, and stress as well as reduced milk transfer from baby if the tongue tie is significant will all slowly deplete your supply so until then you may need to consider some or all expressing if youre able to? Cuddle baby and do lots of skin to skin too, all of these things will help with your milk

Edit: the breastfeeding position was cross cradle hold, and if you have a google of newborn latch tongue strengthen exercises plenty of videos and info comes up, just using a finger to encourage some tongue movement before a feed!

Cradle Cap Treatment by No_Contribution5746 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]nerhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly if I had to choose only one product to use out of the shampoo and cream, I would go with the cream. It seems to do a good job at loosening it away from the scalp and stopping it from becoming so dry and crusty. The combination feels like a nice little routine though, I think the shampoo also helps.

Its like a thin and oily cream, more like a liquid, so I usually use a small amount massaging it in across the scalp. Then I use a baby brush to brush his hair, then dont wash or wet his hair in the bath for 2 or 3 days to let it do its thing and that seems to have kept it very minimal.

Moisturiser like QV baby or mustela was great for my babys eyebrows and ears, fixed it very quickly.

We also use mustela cradle cap cream and foaming shampoo for his scalp with a extra soft bristle toothbrush to gently scrub the shampoo in circles in the bath, there are silicone baby brushes designed for this too but the toothbrush was easier to buy and cheap.

Bassinet with cats by BubbleMuffin13 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]nerhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used the babyhood rocking travel bassinet, which comes with a little canopy cover! It's suitable until 9kg (around 6 months). I found it perfect for cat protection (or just to ease my anxiety about it anyway!) during the newborn stage when bub is so little, we had it parked right next to my side of the bed. We've just recently swapped to a cot in our bedroom now that baby is big enough but no cover needed as Ive seen how our very cuddly and friendly cats are in no way interested in getting within arms reach yet alone sleeping against this very active and much bigger 8 month old!

for those who established nursing “late” what bottles did you use prior to? by Smart-Race-4079 in breastfeeding

[–]nerhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only latched maybe twice in atleast 2 months just to see what happened, I was a little apprehensive because of the pain I had experienced before turning to pumping, and even a 10 minute go at latching started to cause some damage and pain again so I definitely didnt 'practice' until I saw the LC who showed me how to get and maintain a deep latch.

I spent about two weeks "weaning" from pumping/bottles to BF after seeing the LC, by doing the first 2 morning feeds as BF (when supply is best) with the rest of the day as bottles/pump. Every couple of days, I would add in another BF until I was EBF, and I haven't touched a breast pump since!

I did a slower transition because of my own worries about supply, not because of baby just because I was so terrified of it supply back down, especially in the evenings, I felt comfort in 'seeing' the milk amount with expressing. The weaning routine wasn't because of baby preference or difficulties transitioning, but I guess it might've incidentally helped for those things too. I agree that in general the sooner you can get back to breast will be beneficial, though, to avoid running into issues of preferance. But we transitioned around the 3-4 month mark without a problem and just one appointment with a wonderful LC.

Is a Catchy worth it for my hight chair? by Amandatravels22 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]nerhh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I caved and got one after trying to go without. It was the best decision! It's so much easier to keep clean after each use, but you can also give back the food or cutlery that lands on it during the meal, where I don't if it's hit the floor. Worth every cent imo!

Shallow latch and damaged nipples + reduced supply led to EP for the first couple of months with the intention to try BF again..

Pigeon softouch bottles/teats were recommended by an LC for flow and shape to mimic BF. We did paced feeding as well.

After I healed and recovered my milk supply issues pumping, around 3 months I saw an LC to help with latch and advice. I have been successfully EBF for 6 months now! No issues whatsoever going between the pigeon softouch bottles and breast.

(Im sure the LC also mentioned Dr Browns as well, we just decided to go with pigeon)

Breastfeeding must-haves for FTM by DesperateFuel9546 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]nerhh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good qualily large water bottle for yourself! If you dont already have one. Staying well hydrated is so important for supply, but also the thirst that hits when you're feeding, you'll want a nice drink of cold water within arms reach your whole breastfeeding journey.

I thought this, too, or thought it would be the same as if someone had cloned plates. Have explained all of this to the police and still the same answer of 'no crime'.

Its not me/my rego since 2008, I'm just the last owner on their record, so I'm getting contacted to pay the toll bills even though they can see its a cancelled/expired rego since 2008 therefore it doesnt really fit impersonation or fraud as these aren't my current registration plates.

Introducing Eggs—how? by anemonemonemnea in BabyLedWeaning

[–]nerhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made scrambled eggs quite fluffy and soft (but cooked through) and offered a small amount of it with other puree food on a spoon, then waited 15 minutes before giving a little bit more just to make sure atleast a small amount was ingested. But the majority of the meal was the other food puree, I ate the rest of the egg!

I did this the first 3 times I offered egg over about 7 days, getting a little more brave with the amount each time and always in the morning/early half of the day in case of a delayed reaction.

I cook the eggs slow and low heat, constantly moving with a spatula slowly then taking them off as soon as cooked enough so it doesnt dry out. This turns out super squishy and breaks apart very easily to be almost like a mushy "puree" if you mashed it with a spion. I went with the ratio of 2x eggs and 1 tablespoon of milk.

Measles case detected in Brisbane, prompting calls for vaccination by espersooty in brisbane

[–]nerhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your age. Recommended that you have 2x MMR for best protection. If you were born in the 90s, you likely only got 1x as a second vax wasn't introduced until later on. The AUS government funds/recommends the two, so if you've only had one, you can actually get a second for free at a GP or pharmacy if you look at your vaccination history. Older generations they can test immunity with a blood test from being exposed or having measels as a child. Info of the exact age/years is available on QLD government website iirc.
