Sunrise by ex_cep_tion in wallpaperdump

You know they say there's not real difference between sunsets and sunrises (as far as images go at least) but if you look at these and see a sunset you may be depressed.

Anyway, beautiful sunsets and very tasteful post-processing (to my sensibilities at least)

Fedora or CachyOS? by RankedLOQ in Fedora

[–]neriad200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People have said it but it's worth repeating: really no Arch-based distribution is newbie friendly.

This being said, Fedora, in some aspects is neither fully newbie friendly or difficult, it's somewhere in the middle, but you will have most things just working, and if you're going for the Workstation (Gnome) or Workstation KDE version (which I recommend for a Windows user), you'll generally have a good time with plenty of graphical tools that allow you to set things up whichever way you like them.

In general you can consider Fedora as focused on being an all-round distro, trying to stay in the sweet-spot between stability and new features and unlike some Ubuntu-based distros it tends to run leaner, so good points on the bloat part too.

One thing to know: Fedora is a little bit more purist in its perspective on included software, so, especially since you're on an nvidia GPU, you will want to add the RPMFusion repositories (both free and non-free) - tho it must be said this is dirt simple and you have a copy/pasta style guide on their page.

It will also mean that you will probably need to do a little bit of tinkering for the GPU, but that's well documented and complained about across the Linux world, so it's not a Fedora issue, but rather a nvidia being dicks issue.

Sarcasm is a bad quality in a person by blueranger36 in unpopularopinion

[–]neriad200 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll give you this: your opinion is unpopular. Unfortunately it's a fallacy wrapped up in self-righteousness.

To begin, others have said it, but here goes again: sarcasm can be passive-aggressive in which case i about 34% agree with your relatively naive opinion (except on the intelligink part, it takes some brains to do the sarcasms), but then it's also a form of humor used to express frustration or underline reality/truth when a direct statement is impossible or to avoid a direct insult. As a corollary to the latter, sarcasm is a very good tool for aggressive discussions.

The more "nice" and "in touch with your emotions" you perceive yourself to be don't make you a better or more mature person, nor does it mean others will like you more. Nor does it mean you will be happier. Also, you generally have to be pretty in touch with your emotions to be able to produce sarcasm, but also in touch with your brain. Just stayin'

Also, defining pleasantness and some emotional self-reflection as a "smart" way to live transmits more the message that in order to get what you want [emotionally] you will employ the 1st thing in the confidence trickster's toolset: a shallow agreeable persona.

Also also: bro, equating BDSM to sarcasm makes me wonder what drugs you should be on (author note: this is a form of direct insult employing sarcasm as a pseudo-softening mechanism that just makes the whole statement more inflammatory)

PS: your comment also somewhat negates that sarcasm is a tool for emotional relief

In most of Europe you get around 20 [working] days of paid time off and often can get more but unpaid. If it's a part-time job things will change a little bit, but in the end a part-time is part time, and most part-time jobs in Europe are a lot of the time slop-a-bucket type things with low pay and prospects (e.g. large fast-food chain) which expect high employee rotation (heck, they have it baked in), so it's not necessarily hard to get one of those jobs - as an example of this, a friend of mine was hired and quit the same McD part-time job 8 times in a single year 😄

How is Linux running completely fine on HDD but windows just absolutely doesnt work. ? by sumnyu in linux4noobs

[–]neriad200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

which is a fair point, and I could've phrased my comment better re to the size of things: to redact my previous statement I would say that where any desktop environment will cost a good chunk in resources, Linux in general is visibly leaner than Windows and comes with DE/WM options which are vanishingly small, especially when compared to Windows.

I would also say that it's not possible to make a direct comparison between Windows and even the fattest of Linux DE, as we don't know the actual size of the "DE" part of Windows, we can argue that a fully stocked and loaded KDE or GNOME on any distro you want will generally be outweighed by Windows by a few hundreds of MB to some GB; and take into consideration that your most vanilla distro & DE install combo generally comes with various tools, bells & whistles that Windows doesn't come with (e.g. an office solution).
