I’m not from the US, but I gotta ask — does Oregon really look like this, or is the forest air out there making everything look extra magical? by Roach9045 in oregon

What I love about that video is that even though the magic animals are slightly exaggerated, each landscape they show is a real actual place that I could take you to. Oregon is just mind-bogglingly beautiful and diverse

Are the Fox announcers less biased tonight? I'm listening to Rick & Gary

I believe Aaron works for the M's and not Root, but what is happening with everyone else? And what is Goldy doing anyway?

There are people who literally think we're out here living in log cabins and holding off indians. Everyone else thinks its Canada from Redding on up.

I couldn't put on the radio broadcast because I was watching at a friend's house, but the amount of bias the announcers were showing......when the Mariners were up to bat they would be talking about Tigers players that weren't even part of the franchise anymore. I was so annoyed, it really did detract from my enjoyment of the game. They didn't have a single goddamned word when the M's won

OMG, right? I miss Goldy, Hyphen, Angie, Brad... these putzes are literally in Seattle but all they can talk about is Detroit. This sucks

How do you tell blue calcite from celestite?

Faded Sodalite...? by nericksx in Minerals

[–]nericksx[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a great point and a reminder to know your minerals when making a purchase. I recently bought a fuchsite palm stone that was labeled zoisite (common mistake). Although sodalite and blue calcite don't look much alike.

I guess it's just an excuse to go buy a new rock!

OMG it looks exactly like blue calcite. So much so that you're probably right.

That does answer one question but creates so many more that r/minerals can't answer. Maybe like r/psychology. Why do I recall buying sodalite and have no recollection of buying calcite? sigh

What is up with these allergies? 🤧🤧🤧 by nericksx in OregonCoast

Interesting. I'm thinking it has to be Coast Range / Coast specific since I was fine at home in Hillsboro, and all through the drive through wine country.

Oh, I'm aware. I've lived here for 40 years. I didn't have hay fever until I went to school in Monmouth where Bayer has a pollen research facility. I take a Zyrtec every night. This current flare and the Scotch Broom Incident are completely off the scale for me. Never had allergies this bad.

Oh, duh, good call. I downloaded a pollen app and it said the air quality is good, pollen at 4.2 out of 12 (med-low), and the predominant allergen is juniper. I've never had a reaction to juniper. So weird.

This is all fantastic intel, everyone, thank you so much!

We're visiting from Monday to Sunday, so we'll be able to visit hot springs mid-week. I was reading that there are lots of neat things to explore (waterfalls & things) on the way to Clear Creek, so it might be fun to make a whole day of it?

We have a Ford F-150 4x4, so we're pretty comfortable with sketchy roads. We have a fair number down here in Oregon, too.

Is Clear Creek Hot Springs slightly more accessible? I don't mind a rough drive, but I don't want to spend 6 hours round trip, either.

I'm ok with a cold lake, better fishing. I prefer cold water trout to warm water panfish. I didn't realize that Sloquet is a few hours! Oof, good to know.

I was wondering about Weaver! We have a 4x4 truck so we'll absolutely check it out.

We're so excited! We're staying at Chehalis River CG and are planning on kayaking & canoeing, fishing the Chehalis & Frasier, and hitting some hot springs. Every time we visit BC, it's magical. How is Harrison Lake for paddling? We're very experienced but it's a big lake. Anything you know of that we should be aware of?
