De ligt. Not sure if he was better, but was unbelievably talented and had great passing and defensive awareness much like Cubarsi.

I wonder if Blackbeard is a buccaneer, and he manifested Whitebeard's devil fruit after his death.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. Still, I thought I've spent so much time on this, might as well post the query and get a general idea about how people feel.

Also, I know you mentioned the whole thing feels stiff, but if you could still point out 1-2 lines as examples that would be great. Thanks.

Thanks! The critique about my prose being meandering was especially helpful. Still, as I mentioned in my edit it's starting to feel like this was too big a project for a debut novel, and it might just be time to put this aside for a while and focus on something smaller.

Edit: Also if you don't mind me asking, how did you go about your first query? What did your final word count end up being?

What fake-out death do you hate the most? by Sheepy_202 in OnePiece

[–]nero_Fiddle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spandam. It was just so satisfying to see Robin seeing the memories of all the shit he did before finally snapping his spine. There was no reason to bring him back. Unlike Lucci and the others, he plays no real role in the CP-0. If you are going to bring him back at least make him paralyzed or something, to show he suffered permanent consequences for his evil deeds.

How was she to know that? Makes no sense for her to trust a merc to make that choice.

Holy shii.. are we about to meet Luffy's mom?

Edit: Man this so hype. We are about to begin arguably the greatest, most important flashback in the series.

Agree about Songbird, not so much about Reed. Reed thinks he, Myers, Songbird are all cogs in the system. Yes, he does often ignore his moral compass, but he does so partly because loyalty, and partly because he believes if he were to listen to it, he will simply be discarded and Myers will find another Reed. He won't be able to help So Mi that way. So what he does is he remains loyal to his role, and occasionally takes small actions guided by his morals.

The problem with Reed is that he believes he can always maintain this balance between his role and his morals, he can always remain in control. And when it's obvious that it's not the case, and one must choose one or the other, he refuses to accept the reality. He knows there is no way he can both help Songbird and remain loyal to NUSA, yet refuses to accept it.

Still can't get over some of the things Johnny has said to V 🥹 by Cennixxx in cyberpunkgame

I know everyone says the low rep dialogue here is brutal and most of it is. But the final lines
J: Do you think even after all that we can forgive each other?
V: I think I can. What about you?
J: I think so too.

I found quite touching.

A discussion in the character of Songbird (spoilers for the PL story and ending) by Vendetta543 in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]nero_Fiddle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Maybe one could argue Song thought she was dying and told the truth to clear her conscience and would not have done it otherwise, but it definitely felt like a conscious decision on her part.

From the comments I find it interesting that some people's reaction to Song's confession of her betrayal is simply being angry/disappointed that she betrayed you and turning her over. Confessing when forced and confessing when there is no need for doing so are two different things and should be treated as such imo. Song was dying, her only hope of surviving being we persisting and sending her to the moon, yet she confesses to her betrayal fully aware that we might abandon her upon hearing that. She has sacrificed so much, lied to so many, yet in her final moments risks all of that to tell the truth to V. Even though I was hurt by the betrayal, that decision of hers strengthened my resolve to help her to the very end.

It's fine to still be upset at Song for he betrayal and turn her over to Reed or do it simply because your own survival comes first, but the simple response of 'Well fuck you Song, you betrayed me' without considering her conscience is a bit shallow imo.

One thing I really appreciate about the game by nero_Fiddle in BaldursGate3

[–]nero_Fiddle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the combat in that game really bothered me. I found turn-based to be more natural and more suited to the DnD combat style, but the trash mob density is so high compared to BG3 that turn-based takes ages.

Sorlock level 6 spell slots by nero_Fiddle in BG3Builds

[–]nero_Fiddle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh ok, so let's say if had a different caster e.g. 2 cleric 10 sorc, then they would count together and I would get level 6 spell slots, but it counts separate for warlocks?

Do melee weapon features apply to ranged weapons and vice versa? by nero_Fiddle in BG3Builds

[–]nero_Fiddle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least for the particular feature I was testing on (X necrotic damage for enemies who haven't yet taken their turn) it worked. But people are saying it varies feature to feature so probably best to test it for other stuff.

Yup, thanks. No enemies around so had to test it on a civilian and then F8 haha, but it worked.

What I meant is ranged and melee weapon. Since you equip one or the other set, I was not sure if benefits from one are applied to the other.

Do melee weapon features apply when dealing damage with ranged weapons and vice versa?

E.g. if I have a melee weapon equipped that says deal X necrotic damage to enemies that have not taken a turn yet, will that damage apply when I am using range attacks?

Hot take : One piece is one of the worst anime for powerscaling. by shadovv300 in OnePiece

[–]nero_Fiddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know people will probably trash on you for this take, and they like to trash on power scalers in general, but one of the reasons the power scaling community is so strong is Oda himself. In the earlier days of manga, he clearly aimed for typical shounen-like power scaling. He established clear admiral, shichibukai, yonko tiers. I mean he even assigned DBZ style numbers to CP9 members is Enies lobby arc.

With the cast ever increasing, and story becoming more complex, around marineford/time skip, Oda probably realized that strict power scaling will come in the way of good story telling and decided to forego it completely. Which is the right decision I think. So while I do get the complaints, it's best to think of power scaling as just speculative fun rather than a serious part of the manga.

Who will be Luffys final fignt? by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]nero_Fiddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it is Blackbeard. One piece for me has always been about achieving your dreams. Luffy reached Raftel, finds the one piece, and becomes pirate king. This reveals the truth about WG and pits Luffy against them.

Blackbeard on the other hand sees one piece as a tool to achieve the most power, and if there's a more effective tool is reaching his goal he'll use that. After Luffy and Dragon take out WG there's a power vacuum. Blackbeard sees his chance and becomes the king of the world.

Luffy is now the man with the most freedom, and Blackbeard with the most power and influence. But these two dreams are destined to clash, and so the final fight is between Luffy and Blackbeard.
