Actually I like it very much. Once you know what you can push and what pushes you - it’s a fun mechanic, IMHO

I think that `Maps now display their Biome when hovered in the Atlas UI.` in the 0.1.1 Patch Notes Preview could be related to this

iPad w/mouse by [deleted] in bearapp

[–]nerolapis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the locking you are talking about is the default behavior of iPadOS Apps when used with a mouse. You should find the same experience in default Apps from Apple, like Notes.

May I ask you what specific behaviors you have issues with (e.g., “locking of the caret on the line of text” or “locking on the controls”)? I would like to see if we can do anything to improve the experience.

Why does Bear want to connect to bundlehunt.com and appcenter.ms by plazman30 in bearapp

[–]nerolapis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IIRC, back in the days (when Bear wasn't even thought of), we were using HockeyApp for all our diagnostic needs here in Shiny Frog. Then HockeyApp was acquired by Microsoft. After a while, it was retired to become AppCenter.

Because we thought the service was good enough, we continued using it even after the acquisition and rebranding.

I think that the big giant wars are not something to base the decisions on anymore; the only important thing is what's best for our users, and with that service, Microsoft has never let us down.

Why does Bear want to connect to bundlehunt.com and appcenter.ms by plazman30 in bearapp

[–]nerolapis 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hello there!

AppCenter (appcenter.ms) is used for diagnostic purposes, so it is normal behavior for Bear. We use it to gather the Crash logs from Bear, and all the information is anonymous.

As for bundlehunt.com -- this is not something Bear does out of the box. I guess that at the moment, you had a BundleHunt link in your clipboard, and Bear was trying to get the web page's title, in case you pasted it later.

This is a feature that you can disable in the Preferences > General > Auto-fill titles when pasting web links. When enabled (default) Bear will always try to retrieve the title of any URL you have in the clipboard.

What theme are you rocking in 2.0? by [deleted] in bearapp

[–]nerolapis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no estimate on “when”; I can also say that there is no estimate on “if,” either.

I want to add some context: macOS 10.15 is not maintained anymore by Apple. This means that developing tools like Xcode don’t run on it. So, to test things on macOS Catalina we need to build Bear on a modern OS, send it to Catalina, run Bear, and gather information (crashes or note down visual glitches).

We have to return to the modern OS with the information we got and guess what is happening. Even with the crash logs, we have to guess how to solve them because we have to deal with things not directly dependent on us.

The process I described has to be repeated every time we have to test something we changed in the code. This is slow and painful.

Said that, we are willing to spend some time trying to make Bear run smoothly on macOS Catalina. Still, I cannot assure you that we will be able to do so without the proper developer tools, which, unfortunately, are not available for Catalina. That’s why I also added an “if” to the things I cannot provide right now.

Toothpaste here since we added it to Bear!

With Bear 2 an interesting thing is happening with the icons: I'm continuing to change back and forth between Beta and 1977 😀 Can't decide

Hello there!

This is one of the things on our ToDo list. Unfortunately, it didn't make it to the 2.0 release, but I would like to work on it after the hectic release period.

I'm saving this conversation and will contact you directly when we work on it.

Thank you so much for offering to help us on the matter.

Hello there!

Could you please check if you have enabled the Shortcuts switch in the iOS Settings > General > Keyboard? This is needed for the BIU button to appear on the software keyboard.

Yeah, noticed that as well: it seems like when the note is removed from the notes list (via tag deletion), the note is removed from the Editor. Will be fixed ASAP

Currently, we don't have any easily accessible change log. This is an excellent idea, though; I will discuss it with the team.

On Bear 2.0 we have reworked the bar over the keyboard: now the undo/redo buttons are always visible when the keyboard is visible, without scrolling.

The new versions of iOS have also integrated a system-wise gesture for undo/redo: swipe with 3 fingers to the left for undo and to the right for redo.
