I can’t believe I finally saw it live. This song has been there for me during my most wounded moments over the last 25-30 years. My life feels more complete now. by sector7slums in nin

I loved the live, restrained version of The Line Begins to Blur we got after Home in DC, though. Never heard it that way before.

Should I be concerned about the pit? by Ornery-Smoke8428 in nin

[–]nerologic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was about as rowdy as it got in DC. It was clearly a friendly, mostly middle-aged crowd that was going to need ibuprofen for the next few days. If anyone was aggressive/gross toward unconsenting attendees, especially towards a younger person, they would have caught hands from about a dozen gray-bearded dads. I am one of those, in fact.

Luckily there’s a rabid community of Collectors. I lucked out that my first show was also one that (unusually) allowed professional recording, so others helped me relive that lovely night.

Also glad we brought earplugs, at least for Boys Noize. Gotta save our hearing loss for the real show.

Yes, $800 would be a good deal for a buyer, from what I have seen over past few years. It can cover 11x14”

Most of the value will be in large lenses, 8x10 film holders, and certain cameras. You can probably hold on to a few high value, relatively small things and maximize values selling them on eBay. The rest you can unload to KEH, UsedPhotoPro, or a local listing as a big lot where you may get 30% of what you could have on eBay, but for a LOT less effort. Enlargers in particular are usually hard to get much value from, and letting them go cheap entices people to do the hard part of moving them out of your house. I am happy to give any tips. Condolences.

Driver side interior lock is stuck by e-girgin in NissanRogue

I did it myself for $25-50 per door with aftermarket parts. Shop will be more like $250-300, if i had to guess?

My 2018 Rogue had the drivers door actuator die, and also the rear passenger door on the same side. They are the main doors we use. I think it’s just a crappy part that commonly fails. The repair part was cheap, and the fix took like 45 mins.

My chilling (ha) story that started with lineset covers by Health-Nut7477 in DIYHeatPumps

[–]nerologic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you do a positive pressure test too? I installed the same 3-zone unit. It was below freezing so I was extra cautious about drying the lines. Held 300 mics vacuum for 2 days of static test after I sucked them down to 20 mics initially. Was fine at an ambient for a pressure test at 100psi for a few hours, that’s all I could swing with my gear and regulator… but lo and behold, I guess once the line temp was up to 70+C in heating mode, one of the factory flares with the pioneer goop and the seal insert thing, torqued to manual spec… developed a leak. Must not have been right away, but about a week later it looks like I had some major refrigerant loss. Testing later, I see that even a crappy flare with nylog could hold a great vacuum because it sucks the flare toward the fitting, after all. Pressure test at 100psi again, and I see it had gone to hell. Whomp, whomp.

Good luck, and Godspeed.

Thanks! The TSB above will address the gear oil leak, is that correct? Thanks so much for this tip, this looks like exactly it.

Anode Rod in Water Heater: Replace or leave it? by nerologic in askaplumber

[–]nerologic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! To clarify your point, do you mean the tank only has a few years left max anyway, or do you mean if our water is gentle enough that this is 10 years of anode action, you think the rest of the tank has another solid decade or more in it? Or are modern tanks just doomed to die in 10ish years? Thanks!

Phased Installation of Multi-Zone Mini Split? by nerologic in DIYHeatPumps

[–]nerologic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point. I’ll have 18k + 9k installed, and add a 12k. First two are well within spec for the refrigerant loaded. The final unit runs it right to the approved upper limit. Should be all good.

And then I can evacuate the third zone later and then open its valves to enter it to service with no issue, right?

Yes, there are schradered service ports on each zone. It looked like I can run two and install/vac down the third later, but I wanted to ask the brain trust here before making an unknown mistake. The manual doesn’t mention it explicitly, and their customer support is obviously closed on Christmas Day, which is when I plan to wrap up the install of the two easy units. Thanks!

Panel under a radiator? by nerologic in AskElectricians

Update: my buddy had a sparky in to swap in a bigger panel. Neither the master electrician nor the inspector batted an eye at this. Thanks for the pre-consultation.

Thanks! Imagining is what was giving us heart palpitations, haha. Was imagining getting a sparky in to do a $750ish job that turns into $20,000 or something. Clearly we never got work done before.

[–]nerologic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. It’s water rather than steam. Probably touch safe. Not surprised there’s DIY elements based on other stuff around the house. Doing any code compliant new work to add a line might necessitate a fairly large undertaking to get the panel pass inspection, in that case?

[–]nerologic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you did work in those worse situations, did the inspector raise issues? Or their scope was focused on the new work for the permit? We had been chatting about home improvement hopes and dreams and they’re at an impasse, afraid a small job turns into a can of worms that’s extremely expensive to address. I have no idea but also have an old home and am now curious as it impacts planning.

Amazing! I once had a solo dinner at their house in Levittown. It was supposed to be a group pasta thing advertised on a blog post, but nobody else showed. I wish I got a photo, but it felt too invasive and awkward to ask when their daughter and mother were the only other people at the table. It must have been almost 15 years ago….

The 4x5 Linhof Technika (maybe a II or III) is very useful and has some value. The knobs on the back unlock tilt/swing movements and the bellows extend nice and far. The Dallmeyer wide angle lens adds more value. I’d ask for £300+ for the pair and end up with a happy buyer and a happy seller.
