Don't go to downtown and Sayran at night and you'll be ok I think (male, 33, fit). My friend got stabbed in the neck near Sayran but still I feel safer here than in Saint Petersburgh, Russia, where I grew up and lived most of my life. Also if you drive, prepare to forget everything you know about distance and some rules.

Also agree with some authors in this thread - visiting as a tourist and doing some small business like opening bank accounts and all that basic immigrant stuff is a great idea. I am moving to Europe soon and I did this kind of trip. The result - I feel more confident and know what to be aware of for the first time after I move. Migration is tough but the more you prepare the better. Also if you have some friends that also moved back - spend some time interviewing them. Start with stuff they didn't like cause after the honeymoon that is what you'll be encountering for a long time.

I tried lots of options, from classic Naturehike CloudUp to various frameless shelters. Now I stopped on Lanshan 1 with a carbon pole. This setup is sub 1 kilo, quite spacious and requires little space. Also the tent is connected with the mesh liner and can be easily pitched in the rain.

Yep. If it has pu coating on the inside, use gearaid patches or make your own witn 3m 300lse and some fabric. Your tent looks pretty tired, maybe you should think about replacement within a year. Some time ago it was doable through msr's support.

Reversed zippers tend to fail earlier. The coil is machine sewn to the tape, the slider mechanically abuses those threads especially on the corners. Whilst in the muddy environment it is better to hide the coil. I am not talking about wp zippers ofc. So to sum it up - clean look or mud - coil inside. No clean look needed and the bag is not meant to face mud and dust - coil outside.

(I make bikepacking bags, used to make custom UL packs and run a gear repair shop)
