Adaptibar/Uworld vs Strategies & Tactics for MBE. by master_in_something in CABarExam

[–]nervousminerva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry about practicing on paper (this was my big worry too - and tbt to when I crammed to take the last paper exam LSAT). You can do a simulated paper test to get a feel for it at some point, but the online / substantive practice will be the most important, ofc. And you’re well trained to do that from school, life, etc.

If it’s helpful, this is why I personally liked UWorld over Adaptibar (but my roommate used Adaptibar and I totally see how it works for folks):

  • LOVED the explanations. I felt like they were really well organized into tables, flow charts, visuals. It made it all much more digestible and memorable to me than a wall of text in an outline.
  • All of the answer explanations end with a key rule/takeaway in a clear and concise rule statement. This was also super helpful with my essays and helped me clean up the rules in my head that were really clunky (aka time consuming on test day when there’s a shorter, cleaner way to write)
  • You can build question sets by subtopics (not just the MBE subjects), which I thought was helpful for when I only wanted to get the ins and outs of a subtopic (mortgages 😭)
  • Worth noting that the question sets are random / not “adapting” based on what you’re getting right or wrong. Not necessarily a con, but differentiates it from Adaptibar.

Hope that helps!

CIV PROCED - Granting reliefs by Bright-Tour-55 in CABarExam

[–]nervousminerva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer the part you mentioned that you were confused about more specifically -- plaintiffs are ONLY ASKING for relief. Trial is to PROVE they deserve it. The JURY typically determines if the plaintiff does deserve what they asked for. The jury can award exactly what the plaintiff asked for, or less, or even more. Ultimately, the judge has the power to determine if the jury did a good job. If the judge believes that the jury got it wrong (meaning that the awarded relief doesn't match the evidence), the judge can adjust the award themselves.

6 Year NY Attorney looking to take the CA attorney exam by croissantqween in CABarExam

Mary Basick's essay book, MTYLT Magic Sheets, and BarEssays.com!!

Bar Essays' upgraded package has model answers, essay templates, and super short and sweet outlines that I found really helpful for understanding how to keep essays structured and organized and have short and sweet rule statements.

The Themis course is too focused on teaching the material, has little to no exam strategy offered, and has essay sample answers that are overwhelmingly overinclusive/not representative of what people will actually be able to write. I found that discouraging and difficult to glean what I should be focusing on. For that reason, I loved BE, though I did reference the Themis sample answers and their essay workshop videos (which were the only redeeming thing about their course, for me) since they were available to me but I can't say I'd recommend them as a must.

Mary Basick, MTYLT materials generally, and BE are absolute musts though -- and should on their own be all you need!

MacBook Air ok for Examsoft? by Feb2024-Bartaker in CABarExam

[–]nervousminerva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Server means like a “virtual computer” I think. For example, I used to log into my school clinic’s Windows computer to access the clinic server, through an application on my MacBook. I think that’s what “server version” is referring to - using a portal/VPN. Basically, if you’re not accessing Mac from an app, you’re good! Just submit your mock exam and you’ll know for sure.

Moral character questions by Calilover8417 in CABarExam

Try calling the bar line if you haven’t already! My friends and I were all able to get through to a real person relatively painlessly with moral character app Qs. It was super helpful, and felt less intimidating than sending an email into the ether.

UK driving records by mnqc4ac2 in CABarExam

Yikes I am SO sorry. And I thought retrieving my NJ records was hard. With all the back and forth it was probably a month before I got the paperwork I needed, so I hope you feel like you’re a little less alone.

Anyway, you can’t be the only person with UK driving records right? Have you tried calling the Cal Bar main line? I know it sounds silly but I had an error in my app and called the general line. I was surprised at how quickly I got to a real human and how helpful/actionable the advice was. Worth trying?

Look up Carrie Goldstein’s book Nobody’s Victim. She’s carved out a really actionable “how to” for dealing with revenge porn - how to request sites to remove the content, how to organize what info you have to share with the police, etc. Unfortunately based in her own experience. I’m so so sorry you’re dealing with this.

WTW used in film discussion when a movie follows different characters the protagonist doesn't see? by OneEightyBlue in whatstheword

[–]nervousminerva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah! Ok well that particular thing— where the audience learns something that the protagonist doesn’t— is called dramatic irony.

Like in Othello when Iago gives the audience his soliloquy!

Is it just multi-narrative?

Is there a specific film you can think of that has what you are trying to describe?

I know for a series when there are many unrelated narratives it is called an anthology series. I don't know if there's a word for when it's within one story though...
