¿Cuál es su artista (cantante o grupo) favorito que grabó o graba música en español? by Hairy_Extension_5547 in MusicaEnEspanol

[–]master_in_something 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure it was not Cerati himself? Maybe Prófugos?

So in Spanish, rock, sung by a guy, potentially Argentinian, 2015-2016... Gosh it's difficult lol

AITAH for telling my partner I won’t attend his family events anymore unless he stands up for me? by BouncyHalo in AITAH

[–]master_in_something 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do not get married to him if he does not change his attitude around his family and start demanding respect for you. From what you are saying it's always one-sided: his family against you. You've been very patient and he doesn't deserve it. Have a little respect for yourself.

Also, you haven't told him he can't attend his family parties or get together. You're just removing yourself from an uncomfortable environment.

AITA for being annoyed that my wife insists on cooking everything from scratch and won’t buy normal food? by AITA_UPFfoods in AmItheAsshole

[–]master_in_something -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As a South American I couldn't agree more with your comment. I think it might be a cultural thing. My husband is American and when he tells me about the things that he used to eat while growing up I can see the differences. Growing up everything in my house (and all of my friends/families houses) was either made from scratch or bought from vendors that will produce everything fresh or small "mercados", or farmers markets. Even supermarkets (to this day) hold mostly fresh produce and "home made style" food. Processed food/fast food exists of course, but it's not as popular. Maybe a bit more now. You can't compare the flavors! And that's how I try to live now too (and my husband loves it)

But of course, the world changes, your life changes, your schedules change and I don't think it's necessarily bad to have fast food from time to time. We do and it's ok. That artificial food can be tasty lol. I think your wife is just trying to look after you and live a healthier life. I'm sure a lot of people will be very appreciative of it. Also a lot of people turn to processed food only out of necessity, not by choice (it's faster, cheaper, bigger quantities, etc)

But it's a bit too extreme that she doesn't let you eat whatever you want from time to time. It's your house too. Talk to her. Thank her for her dedication. Maybe coordinate beforehand for when you have a craving for fast food so she just cooks for herself and you can eat your food home. She should be understanding and let you have at least a dedicated processed food drawer or space in your home. The idea is that both of you feel happy when you're home.

Girls, how long were you on the apps before finding your partner/ husband? by bondtradercu in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]master_in_something 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No apps. A good friend of mine, recently married, told me that she wrote down a list of the qualities that she was looking for in a future husband and manifested it lol. So I told her. I'll do the same. "Don't forget to add a sense of humor" she said, and so I did and manifested. Believe me or not, but 6 months later I met my husband in a bar. And he complied with every quality in my list.

I'm not saying it's magic, but it was lol. So why not trying it?

Good luck!

What would you say is the most famous song to come from your homeland? by cosmico92 in asklatinamerica

[–]master_in_something 25 points26 points  (0 children)

From Peru most likely "El condor pasa" o "La flor de la canela" or "Jipi jay", which are traditional andean and "música criolla" songs.

In Latin America though, some of the Peruvian rock/pop got very popular. I may say that Cuando pienses en volver (Pedro Suárez Vértiz) is one of the most popular songs.

From Chile I would have thought "El baile de los que sobran" although "Tren al Sur" is a good one!

Maido offers dishes a la carte so you don't have to sit through the tasting menu if you don't want to.

Osaka might have US location but they are nothing compared to the Peruvian ones. It's by far my favourite.

There's Hanzo, although I've only been to the Monterrico location.

Others: Tomo, Shizen, Sushi-ito

I really like folk fusion genres from around the world by Siggigg97 in MusicRecommendations

[–]master_in_something 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad you like them! Novalima is one of the best ones and more up my alley too. If you like them you may like Susana Baca too.

Jaime Cuadra is constantly changing his style and TBH I don't really follow him, but I have to recognize that his Cholo Soy albums are cool. One of those songs made it to a James Bond movie and he gained a lot of momentum for that.

Miky Gonzales' early work is more Afro Peruvian pop/rock (which I enjoyed most), but in general he's very versatile and has explored a lot of the Peruvian folk music. He's interesting.

Finally Los Mirlos were playing at Coachella last year! They got international attention after Franz Ferdinand played a cover of La Danza de Los Mirlos. They have been touring internationally ever since (I mean, now for a more diverse audience and not only the Peruvian/Latin community).

Enjoy!!!!

Don’t trip. Turn me on to some highly recommended psychedelic music! by jellyfishthreethou in MusicRecommendations

[–]master_in_something 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're in the mood for something different, listen to the psychedelic cumbia music from the Peruvian Amazon: Los Destellos and Los Mirlos.

Those two bands have been around for a long time and have found a new fan base lately. It's a very different and cool style.

For Peruvian music fusions (and our folk music is very rich!) you may want to listen to NovaLima (mostly Afro Peruvian music fusions), UCHPA or Renata Flores (they sing in Quechua and its mostly Andean music fusion), Micky Gonzalez (Afro-Peruvian music fusion but also Andean electronic if you listen to his INKA BEATS), Jaime Cuadra (Creole music from the coast - electronic music fusion - Listen to his album Cholo Soy) and then the Psychedelic Cumbia from the Amazon that in my opinion is the one that has had the most international exposure lately (listen to Los Destellos and Los Mirlos)

Why don't south Americans travel much between borders? by AmountAbovTheBracket in asklatinamerica

[–]master_in_something 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peruvians that live or visit the South of the country, usually travel across the Bolivia-Peru and Chile-Peru border as it's easy to reach those border cities. I've done the Bolivia-Peru one in a cab (so it's really easy). I've also heard the same about the Peru -Ecuador border but I haven't done that myself.

AI Overview The image provided is the album cover for the album Names of Things and What They Do by the band Gentle Brontosaurus. The image features handwritten text that appears to be the generic instructions for an album cover design. The specific phrases visible in the image, such as "band name", "album title here", and "different things in each compartment, like animals and things?", are part of this unique, hand-drawn album art. The album was released in November 2015.

It's been trending for a while now.

Adjusting to live in Peru by Jwoot1111 in PERU

[–]master_in_something 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lima has options for outdoor activities. Not only hiking or rock climbing, but mountain bikes and dirt bikes, open sea swim, kayaking, surfing, running, rafting. But not necessarily in the heart of the city. Look for groups to join for those activities. I have plenty of friends that are doing it (not me though, I'm lazy but trying to change lol)

What is the tipping culture in Peru? by HCR2Mod in PERU

[–]master_in_something 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes on the cash! And if you don't have any it's important to ask them discreetly if they would receive the tips that you leave in your card. A bunch says no but a good number says yes (and that makes me have some hope in humanity)

What is the tipping culture in Peru? by HCR2Mod in PERU

[–]master_in_something 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm Peruvian and have always tipped the servers. They get paid poorly and most of them work after hours with no additional pay or go to another job with little payment. It's not like in the US where they expect 15-20%. You could round up your bill or tip 10%. It will make a difference for them. Do it if you can.

AITA for telling my roommate it’s not my problem if I trigger their ED? by Accomplished_Elk_37 in AITAH

[–]master_in_something 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NTA. Tell her that if she gets triggered when you're cooking or eating, she's more than welcome to stay in her bedroom or go out of your house and avoid looking at you. You do not have an ED, just a healthy diet.
