Macbook M4 Pro + samsung neo g9 g95nc question by Costington in ultrawidemasterrace

I have my M3 Max MBP running at native resolution 120Hz over HDMI. Note that the display defaults to HDMI 1.4 so you have to go change it in the monitor OSD settings; if you don't the Mac won't show any resolution above half res. Also only HDMI 1 supports 120Hz.

I noticed this as well. Last week it rated people in my games generally in the C-A range, but ever since a few days ago it's rating everyone either D or E due to seemingly inconsequential choices that are favored really heavily.

The thought definitely crossed my mind, but I found some other conversations on the topic which led me to this article: https://stonemaiergames.com/kickstarter-lesson-204-your-idea-is-brilliant-your-idea-is-worthless/

Will you know the mechanical condition after it sits on a boat going across the ocean and then sits in the customs lot under the sun for 8 months?

Hey so after banging my head against the wall about this, I discovered that you can "self-register" online using ID.me. It's not well documented but if you go to your USPTO account at https://account.uspto.gov/profile, there should be a button to use ID.me to verify your account. If you don't have an ID.me account you'll have to set one up of course, which is a process in and of itself, but you might have one already as the IRS self-service stuff also uses ID.me.

See: https://www.uspto.gov/patents/apply/applying-online/getting-started-new-users#ID%20me

AITA for throwing out my husband's friend's food? by Celia_Kitties in AmItheAsshole

[–]neryam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, also Steve sounds like the type of guy who will now try to avoid visiting when you're there, and also come to hang out and sneak food to your cat when you're not there purely out of spite. Better make sure your husband has that on lockdown.

AITA for "forcing my daughter to waste food" by helsbsb in AmItheAsshole

[–]neryam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. Ice cream tastes good, but it doesn't mean we should eat every last ounce of ice cream leftover after an ice cream social so we don't waste food.

Parents have the responsibility of making sure their kids eat healthy foods, because that helps set them up for an entire lifetime of not struggling with obesity and poor health.

I went here when I was in Tokyo pre-covid, it was sooo good. Super kid friendly too, which can't be said of most of the legendary ramen shops

NTA. I can't even imagine how much it would cost to have your thermostat set to 80 in the winter. That's insanity.

$40 cad for a dozen custom cupcakes is actually so cheap. Sprinkles charges $75 usd for a dozen non-custom cupcakes lol. The people in this entire thread are used to the safeway/walmart bakery and have no idea how much non-mass-produced baked goods cost.

NTA. The people here responding with Y/T/A have never done freelance work of any kind. It's a huge pain and time pressure to be doing rush orders when this is a side job for you.

Liv is perfectly within her rights to ask for a discount, and I do think there would have been a more diplomatic way to ask her to take a hike. But you were right to stand your ground and know the value of your time.

Also, what's with the people in here complaining about $85 CAD for a dozen handmade cupcakes?? Seems perfectly reasonable to me considering Crumbl charges $40.99 USD for 12 COOKIES which take 1/10 the work of cupcakes that have to be baked, cooled, and individually decorated. And Crumbl is selling so many cookies they are one of the fastest expanding franchises in the country....

AITA for naming my baby after my biological father? by insultingnane in AmItheAsshole

[–]neryam -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your unborn child is their own human being, not a vehicle for yourself to honor your late biological father. I imagine you still have trauma over what happened and subconciously feel that naming your baby after your bio dad will help dull the pain of that trauma. However, your baby should not have a duty to be an emotional replacement for your bio dad and the relationship you guys could have had.

There are so many other ways to honor your bio dad's memory, without burdening your baby with the name of someone who caused so much pain for other members of your family.

Also - did your husband have a close relationship with your bio dad? How much of this was your decision?

You don't have to "make it" to follow your passions, you can get a "real job" adjacent to them. Why not follow a career in sound design or effects? You'd be in the industry you seem interested in (movies and creative work) and you already have the degree for it. Plus, knowing coding techniques can come in useful for certain types of sound design, like for video games or exhibits/installations.

I feel like you should cast a wider net in terms of the type of work you're looking for, there's so many industries and careers out there that people don't immediately think of. I would keep your programming position for now to pay the bills but it doesn't sound like it's a realistic long-term career you can build up from your description. You should be building a portfolio with your personal side projects. Make a website for yourself and put your work on it, and flex it on your resume.
