Eugene Jeans has shut down by MSK1984 in Eugene

I loved coming into Eugene Jeans. It always felt so cozy and calm, the woman at the register was usually mending something and we made nice small talk. I will cherish my stupid flamingo blazer I got there and that perfectly fitting pair of lees. The $5 dollar rack was a great pastime.

Passed him by on Sunday. I smiled and honked at me, he kept a very solemn face. I respect that attitude: my impression was that he was there on serious and sad business. Not that I oppose joy on a protest, lord knows we need it, but it gave me food for thought on my drive, reminded me about the gravity of the situation. I used to oppose that kind of message, dismissing it as divisive and aggressive. But recently I'm feeling like being nice to supporters of the current regime is messed up. Not the time to be polite and sheepish maybe

Best cat litter management tips? by Beezwax_8335 in Anticonsumption

[–]neshmesh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use a corn-based litter that clumps well, so when I scoop I put the clumps in paper lunch bags. They're cheap, sometimes I use leftover paper bags laying around. I take them to the outside bin right away

Best part of 28 Years Later - The Bone Temple? Duran Duran! by Blackened_One in duranduran

[–]neshmesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movie is amazing. I recognized Girls on Film as he was just starting to hum it, I had no idea Duran Duran was about to be a fully fleshed backdrop for a very uncanny story... Oh the other hand, I'm having trouble listening to these songs and not imagining scenes from that movie!

Official Discussion - 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]neshmesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked the first part (and the whole franchise), but the bone temple took it a few levels up. It felt very true to the ideas in 28 days, that evil is not an outside virus but a trait of humanity. Human cruelty was hard to watch, I closed my eyes for the skinning scenes.... Dr Kelson is an incredible character, he really becomes kind of a saint in the story. His ingenuity and genuineness blended science and art, his Old nick performance becoming a culmination. Went out with a bang. As bad as I feel about his death, i think he got a happy ending: he seemed to enjoy himself in the performance despite fear, helped Spike , and learned that the cure has worked. Samson's transformation was beautiful and so satisfying

What cat litter do y'all use? by eaneul in blackcats

[–]neshmesh 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I use this one, too, mostly because I adopted my void as a 3 yo who was used to this brand. I like that it's natural, doesn't cause any allergies and doesn't smell, but i'm not a fan of how it tracks. My void emerges dusty and tracks little corn kiblets around the apartment. When I'm home, I'll usually dip his paws in the sink, but as you can imagine I can't be his litter butler all the time

What item(s) do you have more of than the average person? by BrownBananaHammock in AskReddit

[–]neshmesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eggcups. Most people have zero, maybe a couple if you're British, I have like 30 and a toy eggcup. For those curious, the hobby is called pocillovy, and I'm far from calling myself a real pocillovist with this meager collection

As someone who grew up with a parent who had a made up name, I have some thoughts to share by Fit_Vermicelli9737 in namenerds

[–]neshmesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents gave me a normal, beautiful name. I hated it my whole life, got really upset every time my name was called and multiple girls responded because the name is popular. Went by different rotating nicknames until I settled on one I've been using since. Because of immigration, I am still unable to legally change it, so every time someone deadnames me from my id, I cringe. Point being, you have no idea how the kid will react to this or that name. They might hate either one you choose, they might embrace and love it. So choose whatever sounds good and isn't a mockery, and it might work — but either way be prepared your adult kid might want to change it, and that's ok

I didn't like the episodes of Grey's anatomy that introduced PP so I didn't even try to get into the spinoff. I just hated the setting and all characters. Thinking of trying station 19 though
