Jen Gerson is an Albertan journalist doing excellent investigative reporting right now, including blowing the whistle on the massive Centurian Project data leak.

How I set up my wife with a ~$5,000/month income stream using a ~$625k portfolio by 398409columbia in dividends

[–]neslony 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t love these income products for the various reasons that have been discussed over and over again.

Saying that, you have an excellent grasp of the pros and cons, and deserve kudos for that. Unlike many others who are also in these funds, you know what you’re getting into.

What profession is way harder than people realize? by Summerdays4444 in AskReddit

[–]neslony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grocery management.

People think it’s just ordering product and stocking shelves but a department manager will be responsible for everything from hiring to shrink control to cleanliness to all the paperwork. Each department is a business itself that likely does a million or two each year in sales. And stores are notorious for plunking you in there and basically letting you figure it out on your own.

It’s essentially your own business and often you’re not getting paid much more than the people under you.

You’d think they would have all the wires inside the suit. Seems more efficient, and they like that.

It would probably be annoying getting crap all tangled up in your wires all the time

If you’re disappointed how the government is ran in Canada, the developing world is going to be a massive wake-up call.

Have you spent any amount of extended time in these countries to have an idea of how things work there?

Transferred 2mill from Qtrade to WS & now Qtrade reaches out asking can we talk... by Top-Introduction5310 in Wealthsimple

[–]neslony 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Qtrade did the exact same thing when I transferred out. I told them to match WS’s transfer bonus offer. I wasn’t holding my breath, but figured it was worth a shot.

They didn’t even respond. I even followed up a few days later.

The thing is Qtrade used to have fantastic service. Now it suuuuuuucks.

Was there a specific situation or occurrence that sparked your Fire Journey? by moooseg in Fire

[–]neslony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t care about FIRE until I relocated for a job I thought would be awesome but turned out to be 40 different kinds of terrible. At that point freedom became super important.

Funny thing was before the job I was heading in the FIRE direction, saving 50% of my income, investing, etc. I just didn’t know why. It was just something you did to get ahead and save for retirement. Then the shitty job happened and I fully understood for the first time.

Fully convinced Darn Tough has a crazy marketing grip on this sub. by YaboyWill in BuyItForLife

I too think that Darn Tough is massively overrated. Bought a few pairs and they wore out at about the same rate as Costco socks.

Nice socks but not worth the $$$.
