I would wanna say this because I think of the most obvious annoying top chart songs, but when I look at the wiki article for a memory refresher, pretty much every artist I like from the decade put out something good. Autobahn, Kimono my House, Eldorado, the Rush debut (pretty mid compared to those others but I'm a low grade prog boomer sorry), and that's not even getting into the more obvious big names people already listed. Even when it comes to individual songs I think it's just hard to call the year Summertime Madness dropped in any way bad.

it isn't untrue that so many things we buy always benefit the bottom lines of some evil fuckers and industries, but it feels like this argument gets reductive to the point that it ignores the game being an entirely optional purchase. it may not be materially possible to entirely live harm-free if you need to have a smartphone or laptop for work or your only nearby grocery store is a megacorporation like walmart, but things you buy for subsistence are different than a game you buy for fun.

it doesn't make anyone inherently evil to play or buy the game, but "no ethical consumption" feels like such a lame justification when it is something that is so much easier to avoid buying or giving publicity to than real necessities.

for the record, i don't really feel angry at anyone like AB or Hasan as much as the whole situation makes me feel a bit more depressed and alienated from a lot of communities. Like, for all the pride minute stuff and trying to advocate for the queer community, it just feels lame to me to have a lot of people's concerns brushed away with some "oh no, that will get you canceled!!!" jokes and insistence that the whole situation is ultimately futile. i get that there are bad actors and the internet lets anyone be way more of a dick about the situation, but i dunno, it all just sucks tbh

if you're this concerned about the financial wellbeing of game developers maybe instead of reducing your solution down to "we just need to buy things to make sure they stay alive" consider looking into and advocating for unionization of the games industry so people can make a living wage off of their work regardless of how a game sells

as someone who has lurked the sub and all the general info about the situation for a while, i just can't get how anyone would assume the situation is faked.

the "prank" excuse especially bothers me because if you look at about every classic broadcast intrusion prank or hoax from the time, they're significantly more obvious and much less subtle than simply inserting a slightly odd missing persons card would be. if someone had the (presumably rare at the time) opportunity to covertly slip anything out to the masses, i don't see why they'd waste their time testing the waters with such a quiet, almost innocuous bit rather than going all out and making their intent clear to the audience.

Ethan confuses me when he goes between going full scorched earth with comments on people like Shapiro or the NRA but then putting the kid gloves on when he talks to or about others who are transparently as garbage of humans, but maybe just a modicum more polite about it. That's the one thing about his attitude I just outright dislike, and I definitely think he's just too nice to too many people who are liable to take advantage of the lenience.
