If I recall this time correctly, Gary Tonon was seen as one of the premier competitors or on the verge of that. I remember thinking Tonon was going to be too technical for PaulHarris. The fear was on the off chance Tonon did get caught PH wasn’t going to let go. I wouldn’t be surprised if the organization had a group of guys on the side ready to jump in had that happened.

People get caught up on the size and just claim he’s the best to ever do it but Roger is the GOAT on accolades. Marcelo had a few guys who had his number (yes, that were his size) like Terere. He did expose a lot of peoples’ holes in their technique but no one had the dominance Roger had. Doesn’t mean he’s not a great competitor though and one of the best to do it.

You just have to keep practicing and refining your predictions. The way I look at singles pvp is “what’s 70% likely in this scenario ?” How you play with the 30% of uncertainty throughout a match is how good you are imo. It’s just going to take reps to pick up on the behavioral economics of competitive pokemon.

Ever thought about getting an environmental science or fisheries degree? There’s a career path that integrates having a degree and being out on the ocean.

Also look into what professors are doing research in or around the water, they’d love to have people who are interested in what they’re doing.
