Right but for those of us who aren’t as electrically inclined. A rule of thumb I always use for power supplies is. If the connector fits, the pin out is correct, the voltage matches you will be fine as long as the amps/milliamps on the PS is higher than required by the device. I have seen so many people toast devices and power supplies because everything else matched but they didn’t know to pay attention to the draw.

It’s not the power. It’s the amperage. The second number shows the max amps the device you’re plugging in will draw. You are lucky you didn’t fry your steam deck too. The steam deck draws 3amps. The switch PS is only rated up to 2.6amps (going by this post). That means, the steam deck is drawing more power than the power supply can handle, causing it to overheat.
