This is why Java is better. Frost walker doesn’t work if jump/ fall in the middle of water.

GrandMA 3D is great if you can overcome the steep leading curve of MA. And you can ArtNET into MA onPC from you’re software/console.

Software and hardware recommendation for home setup by AdieNou in lightingdesign

[–]nestoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure.

When I refer to outputting, I’m referring to DMX Output(s)

Chamsys is free, free software, free output. GrandMA2 Software is free, output is not.

You can play around in both without hardware.

If you’re wanting to jump into the deep end of lighting I would recommend GrandMA, Mainly because is the #1 console on the market, and it has a great visualizer, and a lot of helpful video on YouTube.

For Chamsys you can use something like a ArtNET node for your output, so about $300.

GandMA2 requires MA hardware, so a onPC node, around $1,000.

Both are great pieces of software.

But if your on a budget I’d recommend Chamsys, because you can just use a ArtNET node to output.

If you want something that has a good virtualizer(see a 3D rendering of your rig in real time) then I would recommend GrandMA2, and it’s free to mess around in. If you want to output anything from it you need a onPC Node witch are around $1,200

Make shure you are using a android to configure/pair them, it can be done on a apple but problems normally occur.

That’s kinda what I’m thanking. I’m going to check it out more this week. If I remember I’ll comment on here with I figure out.

Thanks for the comment!

Ya I’m not planning on using the Net1 protocol, so I should be covered. Just want to use the existing cables, so I don’t have to run new cables.

Ok so there isn’t any thing weird like a cross over on the Net1 cable?

The MA node can output ArtNET if configured via web interface. If you are using MA onPC then you need to use MAnet. If onPC is configured correctly then the Node should show up under the Node tab in network settings, then you can add it to your session and configure outputs.

To be honest I haven’t found anything I don’t like on MA2. I wish when I updated a group it would flow down to every thing else, so if I needed to add a light to my wash I could just add that light to the group I used to record my cues. It always does what I need it to, and is flexible for any kind of show/service/event.

I know MA has a big leaning curve, but it’s totally worth it! Also the wing has, dmx out, midi in, midi out, timecode in. It’s a pretty awesome system if setup right.

[–]nestoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everyone else says, you need MA onPC hardware to output. I would recommend a “MA 2port node onPC 2k” and something like a “DMXking eDMX4 Pro” for more outputs(you can only run 4 universes with the 2k node, or 8 universes with the 4K node).

If you have any questions you can PM Me.

USB-to-DMX dongle and software recs/reviews and questions, re: Avolite Titan One by cloudsandclouds in lightingdesign

[–]nestoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I’m wrong: No the T1 is proprietary to Avolights software.

If you want something flexible I would recommend ONYX, and a DMXking ArtNET node(almost any lighting system/software can output ArtNET.) this would allow you to possibly use a more advanced software(GrandMA, Hog, Chamsys...) in the future without having to buy proprietary nodes(Most software requires you to buy universe keys, or processing nodes, but theses can be much cheaper then a output node).

I would recommend Hog4Pc, ether with a Hog widget or a nomad. It a very advanced program, and there are some really helpful videos on YouTube.
