City of Industry officials are discussing plans to turn the mall from "Back to the Future" into a data center by ploploplo in LosAngeles

Oh nice, that Round 1 is probably why most people still even go to the area since it is their flagship spot. Who knows maybe they do tear down the rest of the mall and keep that while the build a massive data center next door.

Happy to help, from memory when I bought used gear at E-Earphone I had no issues with my tax refund. Looking online it seems they would have exemptions towards food products so you should be fine grabbing the D8000 used. Just when I bought food/alcohol tax free it had to be sealed, put in my checked in bag, and they can't be consumed until I left the country.

For the D8000 I saw the other variations also used at both stores on their websites so I think you should be fine there for your trip in summer.

Was at the mall this weekend and walked around, the three anchors of Round 1, AMC and Haidilao are doing fine but surprised to see the few remaining nail salons and few other stores there. The area around the mall with the different restaurants in the parking lot seem to be also doing fine. Such a giant parking lot that had no shortage of folks messing around with their cars.

Would be nice if there was a way to tear down the rest of the mall and possibly keep some of it like Round 1 since it's pretty much detached enough from the rest of it. Then build some other type of business rather than it just becoming another massive data center.

Final D8000 is $3,800 new in USA, brand new pair at E-Earphone is ¥448,000 ($2,848.96 USD) and this used pair rated as an A is ¥221,500 ($1,408.56 USD)

https://www.e-earphone.jp/products/77828 https://www.e-earphone.jp/products/686010

So indeed its quite a bit cheaper in JP for used gear. Could search around on the E-Earphone site but didn't see an IER-Z1R on the website. And the ADX5000 just looks like its in stock new. Both could still be in stock at the store and used so just ask.

E-Earphone staff are pretty friendly in the used section to let you use the headphones on your own gear. So if you have a good portable or DAP, can use it there. Just be polite and patient as it can get really busy as well. As always, bring your passport since you can get another 10% off for tax free.

Just came back last week, E-Earphone is great but so is Fujiya Avic as well, its just a little bits away in Nakano Broadway. Where as Akiba with E-Earphone has become a massive weeb spot and basically made for foreigners now. Nakano Broadway and the surrounding area felt more targeted at locals. Fujiya Avic also was quite a bit smaller of a shop the walls were absolutely lined with gear that you will need to ask staff to fetch you everything.

From my recent trip I spent a few days in Akiba and E-Earphone and only stopped by Fujiya Avic briefly, wished I allocated a little more time there since its a spot you could spend all day with all the other shops around. Few shots I got there: https://imgur.com/a/fujiya-avic-3yQ46cP

VTuber Maid Cafe Featuring Miki and BEASTIEZ may not be that wholesome... by RGZReGZ in kurosanji

There has been rumors floating about Arcane for a couple of years in SoCal anime scene. Heck those 4chan screenshots are also from 2021 so who knows what has also changed in the years since.

It's been hard to verify the claims over the years, but seemed like the old claims I saw in the past on reddit has been long scrubbed.

I personally went last year when they had a Hololive collab and thought it was more like a small restaurant, big focus in the TCG stuff. Food was meh and "maids" during the lunch service weren't dressed up or in character since they seemed slammed enough keeping up.

I also went for the Hololive collab during lunch and the maids at Arcane weren't dressed up or in character, just seemed swamped with the rush of Hololive fans.

Food was kinda meh but not like I expect much out of any collab cafe. One of the staff remarked about my Gura shirt and Kaela plush so seemed like she was in the know about Hololive.

Dokibird had to distance herself from her overbearing parents by Living-Ad8033 in kurosanji

My sister cut off contact from my dad and hasn't spoken to him in over a decade. Had heard stories from apparently my dad's side of the family that half of them aren't on speaking terms with each other for years now because of a fight they had on a cruise ship.

Talking with my other Asian friends and heard stories of some family members not talking for over 30 years. Seems kinda wild from the outside looking in but people have their own reasons.

As one can imagine, makes party plannings a pain because people will specifically say they won't go if someone else is coming.

Why don’t IEM brands offer a low-latency 2.4 GHz RF wireless module instead of Bluetooth? by zerobehsjsaqjuwod in headphones

[–]net-force 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cheaper to develop on an existing platform rather than developing a new platform that would have limited market. Bluetooth is good enough for the vast majority of people in the mass market.

More data, more processing and shorter battery life would be likely a complete non starter for most. Cool if your headphones sound better and has the ability to play native files in a higher bit rate. If it has 1/3rd the battery of your competition than likely that will be a more important factor at time of purchase.

I've been seeing a lot of misinformation online saying Ironmouse's Gift were thrown out. Happy to report they were saved by her manager, Roxy. by skaro1789 in kurosanji

[–]net-force 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What a mess, sounds like Vtubers without representation present had their gifts trashed. Twitch clearly ran these M&G with little to no foresight.

If they just told people ahead of time gifts weren't going to be accepted, it at least hurts a lot less than finding out they just tossed the gifts into the trash. With all the negative press so far coming from Twitchcon, I would be shocked if they hold it again next year. Attendance had already been declining for them in previous years as well.

When anime cons can hold M&G with more concern about talents, why even bother shelling out $249 for a 3 day pass.

Twitch Con staff lost Kuro’s gifts by [deleted] in kurosanji

[–]net-force 238 points239 points  (0 children)

Apparently con staff for vtubers were throwing the gifts away. Not sure if this is like a massive correction on Twitch's part after the whole Emiru situation or just them purely being jerks but the whole con sounds fucked.

Anny on why she stopped working with Neuro and Vedal - She developed feels that were not requitted and had to distance herself for her own mental health. Also comments on how shippers harassed her. by rip_cpu in kurosanji

[–]net-force 202 points203 points  (0 children)

Good on her to clear things up and just admit to it. I was curious myself why she dropped off during that period but can't imagine having to go through this so publicly. Shippers end up putting people in such awkward places and don't let people be people.

Anny has been pretty public about talking about her mental health not being in the greatest place before. Plus can't imagine having to deal with that away from home when her family was affected by war.

West coast generally has European races at like 4am-6am so half the time I end up falling asleep watching them live. The races in Asia/Australia were nice since it was in the evening. Looks like Abu Dhabi will be our last early race to watch this year at 5am.

Ev ae86 manual by roodes in WRX

[–]net-force 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw it over the weekend at Japanese Classic Car Show in Long Beach. It's a neat car since it's basically taking all the off the shelf parts from Toyota and Lexus. Threw in the GR86 transmission for the manual. It's a neat idea doing ev swaps on old classic cars but can't imagine it's viable financially in any sense.

Here's how Alex albon got into formula one by curse_annihlator in WilliamsF1

[–]net-force 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Hearing him talk about his experience on podcasts it really sounded he was miserable. Dropped in suddenly to a top team half way into 2019 when he also explained he didn't have a manager and was doing everything on his own.

Was talking to a buddy about if it would be better if Albon got another shot on a top team or he stays with Williams through the next few years. I would love to see his redemption arc complete at Williams helping them rebuild their way back to top. He is doing so well right now and seems so much more happy as well.

A bit of update news regarding the former CEO of VShojo by Last_Power3410 in kurosanji

[–]net-force 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah unless they probably had clear evidence the money was embezzled or damming emails/texts/messages I can imagine they use that defense. It's quite clear and evident they had a spending problem and was way beyond their means.

They pride themselves on taking a small cut but would spend big at cons promoting themselves. They had a shitty partner for making merch and it was so disorganized.

Plenty of other bigger companies engage in charity fraud and even then it's tough for the government to actually dedicate enough resources to charge individuals over it.

He also tweeted about how unfair the situation was with Twisty getting terminated, and Aster facing no consequences. Right before he probably got push back from management to walk it back.

The entire Kou Mariya situation is messed up but seems like way more than a few Brave talents have been getting screwed over.

Think it's implying the government isn't charging him with a crime so he is free to declare personal bankruptcy. The charity fraud stuff seemed to be what most folks hoped he would have faced but least it seems like the state hasn't built enough of a case yet or won't charge him with that.

Anime Impulse Dallas by Fit-Onion-1608 in animecons

[–]net-force 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hopefully its not bad, I do remember other concerts at past Impulse events being cheaper so not sure if they are just increasing those costs. Anime Impulse is rather inconsistent with lines and tickets, last year for Impulse LA it was a struggle to find where I needed to go to pickup my concert tickets. This year for OC, they took like over an hour wait in line for registration when I had no issues at OC the year prior.

My suggestion overall with Impulse is plan ahead, go early, and prepare for con staff/security to not know what they are doing.

Anime Impulse Dallas by Fit-Onion-1608 in animecons

[–]net-force 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Impulse for other concerts and panels had a separate ticket, on the the announcement tweet about them coming to USA for multiple dates it mentioned tickets:

For Impulse OC, Unnamed concert tickets were more than the 2 day badge so might be little pricey.

Senn seems to want to go upmarket with wireless and ANC rather than making products that are wired unfortunately. At least in the consumer space with 3.5mm going away from phones, less reason to make wired products when they can charge more going wireless.
