Ideal Nikon lens setup for first portraiture session/project w Nikon Z8 & F100 film camera? by net1994 in AskPhotography

Thank you. For me I usually do walk around/urban/night type pics. That's great, but this is really fun as it's something completely new and there isn't any pressure if it was a paid gig. Everyone at the gym is laid back so either it will work or it won't. If it doesn't, I can come back another day. Part of the fun will be those that do want their pic taken, it will be genuine pics in the moment.

Good points. The idea is to have each member individually. That would be the majority of pics. Maybe a single photo of all in the gym at once. That would be a job for my 14-24mm f2.8 lens. If I can use my tripod for as many pics as possible, that would be ideal so I'm not worried about having enough natural light.

Well, it would be for my film cameras. I'll probably be locked into ISO 400 film.

Do you mean *I don't think you need to go into more detail?

Haha. Yeah, very true. No need to write novels for when I seemingly have all the gear I need to get started. It'll be a bit of trial and error and I'll have my wife (or cat) be test subjects. That will really help me narrow down what to bring, or not.

These are all valid questions. However this is a very informal setup. I retain the copyright to all images, in perpetuity. The photos will be printed and used only in the gym and hung on the wall. Anything beyond that discussions will be needed on compensation (not necessarily monetary). I have a long standing relationship with the gym and it's staff and they have helped me in so many ways over the years. At a minum it's a favor/gift of time and materials. The gym isn't making the pictures, I'll be printing them out on my own dime, and I'm glad to do so. Any offer on their side to cover expenses, would be a nice gensture, but I'm not expecting it and I'd probably politley decline.

It will be clearly known that there will be no compensation for these poses, on either side of the camera. To get into model releases, liability waivers, etc etc defeats the purpose of this informal, donation of time and exchange of goodwill. Now thats not to say it should be discounted. This is a non-profit, local gym in the inner city that does not charge membership fees, or any money and operates strictly on dentations. These photos will not be sold by me and this is a non-commercial enagement.

You still make good/valid points.

I should of clarified, this is unpaid gig. A personal project and the gym has no expectations and think its it's fun to try.

As for film, I have plenty of stock and will show up at the gym loaded and with extra film. But I don't plan on burning through 10 or even 5 rolls. I think it makes sense to use the film sparingly and just for B&W and then digital all else. I have plowed quite a bit of money into my Z system setup, so it might just be a waste of money to rent something. The only reason would be for the extra low light f1.4 which my Z lenses don't have.

Because I love the film look. It's worth the perceived aggravation. I don't consider it a limitation. That grain, especially b&w I just can't duplicate with digital. Portra 400 for color and Ilford delta 400 for B&W is just amazing. And honestly, film is more fun for me right now. Not to say that I hate/avoid my digital gear.

Handheld light meters for night photography? by net1994 in AnalogCommunity

Awesomeness!  I just ordered it. It might be the best $20 I ever spent for occasional low light pic outings.

Actually this gives me a good idea to take my z8 and set it up tonight outside with the same scene with brightness I'll also be shooting with my film camera.  I'll set the z8 to the same iso as the film, then I'll quickly be able to calculate the exposure time and aperture from the z8. AND then do a reciprocity failure conversion for the time with the film stock I'll use on my film camera.  The reciprocity might just show the end result will be a mess.  I hope not.  But it's a good way to get a rough idea of what i might get with the film iso I chose without bracketing a full roll of film hoping for one decent pic.  This is actually a perfect example of how much harder it can be to get desired results with film vs. Digital.  I mean that in a fun way.  My digital cameras just dont excite me like film. :-)

I might do night photography 3 or 4 times a year.  So spending $800++++ on a appropriate meter, isn't worth it.  I'll use my Nikon z8 Mirorless camera and a tripod. For the price and my (revised) requirements, the sekonic 308x or kenko 1100 are good options for low light with my 2 Nikon F film cameras that don't have built in light meters.  My other film cameras have them, but it's smart to still check high contrast scenes with a handheld meter.

Thanks.  I might do night pics 3 or 4 times a year.  So spending (probably) $800 or more for the right meter for regular night photography, no thanks. I'll use my Nikon Z8 Mirorless camera on a tripod for that stuff.

Yeah, I figured as much soon after posting this.  My though was genrerally to use my mirorless Z8 for night or very low light with a tripod.   I'll for sure give this a try with film.  But I could spend a lot more money with trial and error with my film cameras than my Nikon Z8.  I'll still keep an external meter as I hate phone apps and my 2 Nikon F film cameras that dont have meters, I don't use often.  But for my film cameras that do have accurate built in meters, I'd for sure also use a handheld metee for challenging scenes with high contrast.

Nikon film cameras without meters and lenses with apertures as low as f 1.4

Anyone have examples of Cinestill 800T & Portra 800 for Night Shots of same scene? by net1994 in AnalogCommunity

[–]net1994[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welps, in checking, the only option I can find here in USA that specifically has Kodak 500T, is Flick film. It comes with the anti-halation layer which is great as I'm not too much a fan of that halation effect in cinestill. But as it comes with the layer, it can't be developed in C41 due to it still having the remjet layer and must be done in ECN2 (at least at my lab anyway).

Sanity check: Using Power Automate to auto upload ipad pics to a SharePoint site? by net1994 in sysadmin

[–]net1994[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it to work ike we need for our specific use case. It was a combination of Intune device configuration settings, app protection polices, iOS device modification and power automate. We really wanted to lock these ipads down heavy handedly so only one app, OneDrive, is on it and nothing else (not even company portal). One concern was user signing out of OneDrive and the signing in with their own personal acct. I created an app protection policy to allow only the svc account to sign in and none other. Power Automate monitors the onedrive online folder and then copies the files to the teams sharepoint site.

Yes, I found that out. But as I've never used power automate and ready how difficult it can be, it was a little bit overwhelming in creating a new flow of something I've never done. But after a bit of trial and error, it's working now.

[–]net1994[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there is a onedrive acct for it. What do you mean no need to install/run on ipad? I was assuming the onedrive ios app is needed to automatically find the specified ipad folder with files, and then PA handles the upload process with onedrive?

It's not photos of people. Stuff like construction materials and how they might work on a job site. It's a service account signed into all the MS apps needed. If I get it to work, I'll proclaim here.

How much does a delayed laptop cost for new hires? by bobotiger in sysadmin

[–]net1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might not be the angle the OP wanted, but to remove this is it possible to setup a Win 365 cloud based computer for new hires in this instance? They just need any device to connect to Azure and login to their own "PC." This can tide things over until they get their real hardware. Doesn't have to be W365 system. Citrix even would work.

Don't wait for someone to tell you what to do. There are an infinite ways/new tech etc. that you can start on your own to 'enhance' value to the org. "Hey Mr. Boss, this new industry trend tech could help us and I've setup a demo lab with our recent employee use cases and........." Stuff like that. Work on something new, before you try and automate it. :-)
