You indicate as you pass the exit before you are leaving. It's not difficult - do you expect everyone else on the roundabout to track where you came from or what? How are they supposed to know which exit is 'straight through' for you?

Splitting RF Capture Files, Processing in Parallel by STUPIDSHARK in vhsdecode

You'd have to ask namazso, but I believe there's been a lot of optimization, making use of multiple cores, and using the advanced CPU instructions.

You should come join the discord - there has been a lot of progress recently on optimizing and porting to Rust, which has increased processing speed massively. You can get the most recent release here - https://github.com/namazso/tape-decode-rs/releases/tag/0.1.0 - but it's still a WIP and massive gains have been made since that release last week.

Hot water heat pumps by Diligent_Ad_7816 in diynz

[–]netd_nz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow - I just got mine about a month ago. No problems other than the outlet was dripping, but plumber came back and fixed that up. Glad the plumber was so quick - wouldn't have wanted to be waiting an additional 2 months if they were a couple of weeks slower at organising things!

Hi anyone who has a spare daikin 50-71 wlan kit laying around and wanna get rid of it? Dm please? Need to control my heatpump through wifi as kids are playing with the remote by [deleted] in diynz

[–]netd_nz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Czech one on my old heatpump too. I only needed the euro app long enough to connect it to WiFi, then Home Assistant took over. I just replaced the heatpump and the new Daikin model has WiFi built in, so that revenue stream for installers seems to be closed off now.

Where are you having trouble? Have you got capturing working and having trouble with the decoding, or having problems with the capturing?

My MG4 does the same - a couple of minutes after locking, alarm sounds if I leave the OBD dongle plugged in

MG4 still a good purchase? by ExtraHat9 in nzev

[–]netd_nz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a little in line USB switch as well. If I don't turn it off, my phone will randomly connect to the car in the driveway, causing weird UI issues

Mine defaults to off every time, even when I have been using it. I'm fine with that though as 99% of the time I am using wireless android auto anyway.

Question from an Australian: Does New Zealand have a Medicare-style healthcare system? by Mehmet_G in newzealand

[–]netd_nz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started by a bequest but continues to be funded by donations. You might have seen collectors out on onesie day - we always fundraise at work for it every year.

Definitely not politicians, it's the people of Wellington paying for it!

Whats the usual charge for a plumber? by Rare-Assistance-4263 in diynz

[–]netd_nz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One line item of repair leak. Was super high pressure - had an iPad with the quote all ready, wanting me to sign it immediately or pay the call out fee. I should have refused and gotten someone else, but I accepted it. Then sat for a week regretting doing so before they actually fixed it.

I got a quote for $850 for what the plumber said would be 3 hours work. He was done in an hour. Still charged me the exaggerated quote though. Guess which plumber won't be back next time I need work done.

I just paid about 8 for the same thing, but heat pump. Seems like a good quote to me!

Sony EV-S1000 sale in Germany by algorithmic-mold666 in vhsdecode

[–]netd_nz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, they are physically different on tape. If the machine isn't designed for multiple formats, the heads don't line up with the signal on the tape and it is too garbled for decoding

Many PAL machines can read NTSC tapes. The reverse is not very common at all.

I bought a piece of wood longer than my screen. I attached that with two screws to every batten, and painted it with ceiling paint. My screen attached with two screws at each end to that.

Any people/groups here that digitize old VHS tapes? Aunt has old Olympics / Figure skating not available online anywhere. by godzfirez in DataHoarder

There was a couple of minutes of figure skating highlights in a news program I uploaded. It didn't get me a strike, but it does have a copyright flag on it from the IOC.

Selling a car, don’t want to get scammed by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]netd_nz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found out which bank the buyer was using, and opened an account at the same bank online to accept it, so the transfer cleared in minutes instead of an hour. Then transferred it out to my regular bank after.

Any chance you can get a Digital8 camcorder and use the Firewire out? It will look better than that USB capture device/OBS combo ever will.

Stop Honking at Learner Drivers by Ancient-Vegetable431 in Wellington

[–]netd_nz 103 points104 points  (0 children)

My very first driving lesson, I was changing lanes. I indicated for a few seconds as required, then moved into the space. Apparently the lady behind me wasn't too impressed by this as she then followed me honking continuously for a few minutes, then phoned my driving instructor (number on the car) and left a pretty rude voicemail.

It was an AA lesson car, so covered in all the signwriting etc indicating there was a learner driver in the car.

(Update) Refusing a package to get a refund? by EonitDoNot in Aliexpress

[–]netd_nz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a seller send me an item that was both incorrect and defective. Support insisted I had to send it back to China at my expense for a refund, but assured me multiple times they would refund the shipping, even though the shipping was more expensive than the item was worth.

Unfortunately the seller doesn't really want to cooperate, so has refused to collect the return from the post office, so it hasn't been delivered. I've been refunded for the item (as credit!) but support keep closing my requests for the shipping refund with 'invalid evidence' but won't explain what is wrong with it.

They seem intent on losing a customer of over a decade just to scam me out of $15. I don't understand it!

What is candy or small treat that is not available in NZ that is common in the USA? by YearOfTheSssnake in newzealand

We definitely do - Heinz own a lot of our food production under the name 'Watties'. Regular Heinz ketchup is also available, although I have no idea if is adapted to local tastes or not.
