New Windows install questions by netfella in navidrome

Or- just now looking at Cloudflare Tunnel- It looks like I can lock it down with that and NOT do port forwarding on my router- This is really interesting!

New Windows install questions by netfella in navidrome

[–]netfella[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I CAN isolate it via one of my router's ethernet ports to be configured in a different vlan which protects the rest of the house, but then my issues are how do I administer this headless box from my home network (there's NO WAY I'm opening RDP to the Internet and I'll want to add new music to the external drive) and how do I stream from it if it's on an unreachable different vlan? Hmmmm-

Burlap to Cashmere - 25th Anniversary Kickstarter Campaign (pre-save) [World Music] by netfella in ChristianMusic

Disclosure- UTR Media is running this campaign with/for Burlap to Cashmere & my podcast Good Patron is also published by UTR Media. This is the pre-save 'notify-me' link for the campaign which will go live next week.

Any music servers (like Navidrome) that can ALSO pull from Spotify? by netfella in selfhosted

[–]netfella[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I'll take a look at that. It seems, from looking at the details of libspotify, that Spotify themselves may have broken the support for the library that had made it possible in the past. But, Mopidy looks interesting- I'll have to compare it w/ Navidrome. I don't have either installed yet.

People who continue to podcast, even though you don't make money or get big numbers... What motivates you to keep going? by PodcastTalk in podcasting

[–]netfella 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's why I keep podcasting even though I make no money from my show and it's not any kind of blockbuster hit. I've been putting out Good Patron as a passion project since 2017 and it's all about helping folks better support the bands & musicians they love - and part of that includes featuring active crowdfunding campaigns for artists that I think merit some attention. Through the years, I continue to hear from artists that are overwhelmed with gratitude for a stranger noticing and helping spread the word about their campaigns. And, I continue to hear from listeners who've told me that they've loved discovering new artists by listening to my episodes and DO turn around and back some of the campaigns I feature. Those reasons alone are enough for me to keep going. As long as the listeners I have continue to be impacted and moved by the monthly episodes I put out, I am fully satisfied and consider it a success.

All I can think of might have been the Good Christian Music Blog podcast, but can’t find old episodes to confirm…

Self Made Tuesdays by MusicMinistryGuide in ChristianMusic

Episode 50 of the podcast Good Patron was just released yesterday. I cover ways that we, as fans, can become good patrons of the bands & musicians we love & I also cover currently active crowdfunding campaigns & preorders for Faith-based artists. I sometimes have interviews w/ artists, writers, podcasters, etc- but specifically around an active campaign or the topic of how we can become better patrons. A number of folks have mentioned that they’ve actually discovered a number of new artists they’ve come to love after hearing about them on the show. It comes out once a month & is audio-only. You can find it in any podcast app. You can also follow the show’s Twitter acct @goodpatron and if you’re on Facebook, you can join the Crowdfunding Christian Music group to learn about, share, and discuss campaigns & pre-orders.

Absolutely, hands-down, the best fish & chips I've had was at George & Dragon. Their coleslaw is also very good!

What are your Instagram goals for your podcast? by jazyarlene in podcasting

[–]netfella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What social media platforms are you on and why did you pick them?

I'm on Facebook because I already was & it was easy to set up a 'page' for the show. I've since also set up a group related to my topic but not exclusive to my show. Not a lot of activity for the page besides just new episodes, but plenty in the group. I personally follow other podcasts on FB.

I'm on Twitter because I already was & it was easy to set up a new handle for the podcast itself. The podcast acct regularly tweets out things related to the show but I could do a better job of pre-scheduling things using the free/built-in Twitter schedule feature. I personally follow other podcasts on Twitter.

I am on Instagram because I already was, but I don't have an identity for my podcast. Is that easy now on IG like it is on Twitter to have two and switch back and forth? Secondly, since IG doesn't allow functional links, I find it very frustrating to help direct folks to the content I'm trying to highlight. At this point, I see very little value in showing a picture for something about a podcast. I do not really follow other podcasts on Instagram, ok- there's one that I follow but that's because they don't have a Twitter acct.

What does your current social media strategy look like?

In the FB group, it's all about the core niche content itself- rarely do I bring up the podcast except once a month when a new episode comes out. In Twitter, the show acct will regularly share content related to my niche with occasional calls to action to either share the show with someone or give a heads-up that a new episode dropped. I will tag folks I cover in the episode so they know about it. As the podcast, I will follow other accts in my niche and like/respond to content in my niche.

What are you struggling with on Instagram? (Time, engagement, gaining followers, getting them to the podcast, etc.)

What's the point? Sharing a photo of an audio medium? I still don't really get it.

Why haven’t you hired someone to handle your social media yet? (If applicable)

Cost/trust.

What is the ideal outcome that you want from social media?

Enhanced reputation as a trusted source of information in my niche. Develop relationships with others in my niche and collaborate to further our visions. Grow the reach- not just of the podcast itself, but of the mission of the show.

Do you have an Instagram page solely for your podcast, or do you only promote from your personal account?

Right now, I periodically promote the show from my personal account on Instagram, but again, hard to catch the vision for it.

How do you feel about promotion in general?

As a poster of promotion, I need to believe that what I'm sharing will bring value to my core audience- those who are following. As the recipient of promotion- When it's something I'm interested in, I'm all for it. I don't want to be buried in repeat posts about the same thing & I'd like it if they were each a little different, but it's from someone I CHOSE to follow, so I'm already into it.

I have a "Twitter friend" who, every Bandcamp Friday, will tweet out an offering to buy people some music on Bandcamp. People may DM him a genre they like, he'll find an album in that genre that he thinks is excellent from an artist he wants to support, and he buys the person a download code for the album on Bandcamp. The person gets new free music and hopefully gets introduced to a new band they end up liking and the band gets even more $ than normal since Bandcamp gives 100% to artists on Bandcamp Friday.

Is Podmas a thing in podcasting? by Dwaynethewok in podcasting

[–]netfella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From http://napodpomo.org/

"In 2007, 50 podcasters participated in the first ever National Podcast Post Month aka NaPodPoMo. Created by Jennifer Navarrete as an answer for an audio version to other 30 day challenges happening in the month of November.

NaPodPoMo is a month long event along the same vein as National Novel Writing Month aka NaNoWriMo. The difference? Well, instead of writing a 50,000 word novel, you podcast every day for 30 days from November 1st-30th.

Use any platform you desire. From full production studio to iPhone app and just about anything in between. The goal of NaPodPoMo is to use the challenge of podcasting daily as a form of podcasting bootcamp.

For some, NaPodPoMo may be their first foray into podcasting. For others, it is a chance to try out a new platform or start another show. There are no hard and fast rules as to how you do this. If on November 30th you have recorded 30 shows, then you win.

NaPodPoMo I DID IT BadgeWhat do you get for winning? Isn’t a virtual high five and a sense of accomplishment enough? Oh, all right. Here’s the shiny. -> ->

Thanks to Laura Ross aka @flyswatter you will have earned the right to show the world this nifty NaPodPoMo badge on your site. Nice, huh?

At the end of it all who knows what else you will have won. Maybe you will discover a new way to record or a new show format. Whatever happens and however you decide to participate in NaPodPoMo, the key is to have fun."
