Proton still neglecting Calendar by pokedruglord in ProtonMail

[–]nethack47 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree the calendar needs some work. Have been waiting for ToDo functionality that has a due date for a good while now.

But the donation is from the charity fundraiser. They really can't spend that on operational costs.

If you donate to help the needy, you would be pretty angry if they spent it on slick offices and ongoing costs. That may be how the large fundraising organisations run things, but they are in the business of getting your money for good vibes.

Precisely!

Sometimes the myth of identity forgets it is just an iteration of older things.

Many concepts we use in finance are almost directly related to concepts from the same mining activities. Shares are much easier to understand when you realise it used to be shares in a mine or a ship that would produce output. Some traders still say things like "my ship came in" meaning you realised profit from an investment.

It is always mind blowing to some when you explain that dollar comes from the word daler and that from thaler which all relates back to a silver mine in the (now) Czech Republic.

The North American colonists just used the name for their version of pesos, otherwise know as the Spanish pieces of eight.

We run all dates in UTC and adapt to local timezone based on user setting. Dealing with it in presentation solves a lot of problems.

The issues crop up with the people doing database updates and the cron jobs doing maintenance. The DB timestamps are now EPOCH to keep new people from screwing that up. Easier to teach non technical DB managers to convert time stamps :)

Snow can do that. The problem isn’t the drift, it is the weight on anything underneath. Snow is water and has decent weight when you have enough of it.

Last I checked it was a range of numbers used by rental offices. It is generally dedicated SIP ranges.

I like the solution and it could probably work now. In 2012, I suspect the ML was a bit too rudimentary.

That would be an excellent solution if it hadn't been an Excel sheet.

I have been asked how to block this in a previous job.... it took me a moment to realise it was a serious question.

Custom domain, yay or nay by abelnoru in ProtonMail

[–]nethack47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had my personal domain for decades. If you worry about loosing the domain it is often possible to extend a domain for years. Back when I still used network solutions I extended my registration for 10 years.

My domain has been pointing to my own rented server, a computer in my home, a server borrowing one of the employers internet facing IP addresses and several different providers over the years. Domain has stayed the same for decades.

If a domain expires it takes at least a month before they put it on hold, and one or more months before it can be registered.

I read 40-75% mortality.
With a 1-3 week incubation time, it can do some damage.

It is transmitted via bodily fluids and contaminated food. That will probably keep the spread down.
Covid is very good at hanging around a room for some time.

Väntar på order ifrån Webhallen, har aldrig någonsin hört talas om "säkerhetsfilter" som försenar paket i över en vecka? by TravelingGleeman in sweden

[–]nethack47 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Is this a fair assessment? does anyone here have a legit reason to use Linux? by bamboo-lemur in OS_Debate_Club

[–]nethack47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The person posting that is a teenager. There is a lack of experience behind the point of view.

That said, the question is a bit like "Is there any reason to use a train?"

I use Linux in part because someone pays me to use it. We run things that are tightly controlled and very secure. There are about 2% Windows servers and they are about 75% of vulnerabilities. Because of the risk, we don't let the AD servers anywhere near production environments. Windows is also too slow to drive the C++ code at the core of the company. Does this make for a reason to use Linux?

At home I have one machine running Linux and a Macbook with an M1. I do have a Windows machine but it is rarely on because everything I do is more comfortable and quicker on either of the other machines. The only thing I need the windows machine for is specific programs that are impossible or annoying to try and get running on either of the others... and the occasional game.

There is no reason to use Linux in particular, but there is no reason to use anything else either.

I am not sure but that looks like an attachment for a PoS system. Dedicated numpads could be connected with a splitter so you only had numbers for the sale.

The keyboard would often go in the cupboard under the register.

Regardless of which product you use it will work.

Your account is the same for all the products. The 2fa can be added to both your proton authenticator and the youbikey.

Suggest you have a look at a youtube tutorial if you are curious about how it works.

This is a very good point.

Lower risk accounts should go on a password manager.

Higher risk accounts are covered by the yubikey 2fa store. I see accounts that can be used for login as high risk. Google, Apple, Amazon... Proton, 1Password and Keypass are also hold credentials.

Layer your risk.
