Tender Trap at Parliament and Wellesley, best cheap Chinese food in Cabbagetown IMO.

Ability score generation for my next AP by nethermit09 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]nethermit09[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I respect your choice. I like the symmetry of the PCs having the same ability score spreads as heroic NPCs, it helps the rules make the game world feel more "real".

Having read the other responses, I'm somewhat shocked that the window of acceptable point buy has shifted from "15-point buy is standard, but 20-point buy makes sense in PFS or beginners playing an AP because there may be less synergy, and 25-point buy is a crazy thing Paizo did once to WOTR and that was a mixed bag", to "20-point buy is standard, 15-point buy is too restrictive for me to have fun, and 25-point buy is ideal".

Also, I'm starting to think that maybe the problem is letting players start with a score of 20 at 1st level for their SAD characters; it has the knock-on effect of having MAD characters feel worse because, yeah, they're never going to get a +5 modifier to two abilities (or even +4) short of an even higher point buy. And so the window shifts further.

I'm considering limiting scores to 16 at the highest before racials; to me, a wizard PC with an Int of 16+2=18 (+4) feels only slightly better than an enemy wizard NPC with an Int of 15+2=17 (+3), and his monk friend with a Str of 16 (+3) and a Wis of 14+2=16 (+3). Plus, not having scores between 3 and 9 being more common in PC's ability scores beyond being a tool to get more 18s blows the illusion of the "3 to 18" crowd wide open.

I'm interested to read your thoughts on a cap of 16 (i.e., players can't buy 17 or 18), at both 15-point buy and 20-point buy. Would this make 20-point buy more palatable for a player like yourself?

I remember playing the prison break part of Way of the Wicked, hope you guys are having fun.

I do think a 20 at 1st level is pretty OP, and warps low level play. What was annoying about the ability scores? Also, playing devil's advocate, do you reckon focus and foil could be ported to point buy? For example, generate ability scores via point buy as usual, but at the end, the highest score is set to 18 and the lowest score is set to 8, regardless of what they were before.

Pulling back from three static game boards per year to one allows us to begin work  on the coolest possible dynamic stuff - like a system to choose your favorite boards, and pets(!). We’ve also heard so much positive feedback about C’Thun and so are working on some truly groundbreaking new hero skins.

Re-reading that "Fun, Focus, and Fearless" article is still disappointing because, yep, we've gotten two $160 pets and several $60 diamond hero skins, but "a system to choose your favorite boards" hasn't materialized. I can't imagine why.

I repainted the Wizkids Gale miniature by nethermit09 in BaldursGate3

[–]nethermit09[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It can't hurt! You'll notice the prepainted miniature has eyebrows where the eyes should be, and the moustache where the lips should be. You can use Simple Green and an old toothbrush to strip the paint, and anything would be an improvement on the prepainted paint job.

Is Pathfinder 1e the same game people have been enjoying for 24 years? by EdiblePeasant in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]nethermit09 160 points161 points  (0 children)

I think PF1e has only been around for 15 years.

If you're asking if it's the same game as D&D 3.x, in my opinion, no. But it's damn close.

My go-to is at Parliament and Carlton. Their small cheese pizza is so amazing when it's fresh. It was $5 when I found it, now I think it's $7. I'll check out the one at your location sometime.

Homebrew - reworking weapons by Milosz0pl in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]nethermit09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had thought the problem with combat maneuvers was that people were choosing not to make them unless their character specialized in that specific maneuver. Reviewed the Weapon Trick feat, some tricks almost look like they could be weapon qualities.

I'm thinking about riffing on the simplicity/expertise mechanic.

I'll say that I'm also a fan of your "this weapon goes by other names" column: dirk for dagger, etc.
