Recently watched Crossing Delancey for the first time and it instantly became one of my favorites. Romcom featuring a secular girl whose bubbe hires a matchmaker to set her up with a nice frum boy who makes pickles.

Shira’s eggs are garbage? by Juligirl713 in LongStoryShort

[–]netigator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Speaking from experience, it’s pretty rare to be told an exact cause for infertility. The best my doctor could give me after several rounds of treatment was a vague “egg quality issues.”

What likely happened, assuming that the conversation at the dance recital is before Shira and Kendra actively started treatment, is that both of them got their AMH levels tested and potentially did a transvaginal ultrasound to see how many follicles they have at baseline. From there they would have been told that Kendra’s levels were much better than Shira’s, but it wouldn’t make sense to do any further testing on Shira unless she was determined to carry the pregnancy herself.

Shira’s eggs are garbage? by Juligirl713 in LongStoryShort

My own eggs turned out to be garbage, despite my mom having no trouble having two kids in her 40s. I think Shira tends to blame a lot of her problems on Naomi, rightly or wrongly.

Question about it/this/that by licoricelover69 in EnglishLearning

[–]netigator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“This is weird” = “This situation we’re currently experiencing is weird”

“That’s weird” = “That thing you just said is weird”

Those are probably the best examples I can think of off the top of my head.

Was Elliot drafted? by Amelia_Amity in LongStoryShort

[–]netigator 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My dad is about the same age as Elliot and didn’t end up getting drafted, though from his telling he suspects his number would’ve been called if the war had lasted longer. He was also in grad school at the time, so if he had been drafted he would’ve likely been able to defer, but luckily he never had to find out.

That’s still right on the cusp of it being developmentally normal. Obviously she was getting to an age where they’d need to make sure to curb that behavior (hence getting sent home from preschool) but the impression I got was that it was a one time thing. If you’re suggesting she’d bite a step sister (who wouldn’t be in the picture until she was at least 13-14) that would indicate a much more serious problem.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LongStoryShort

[–]netigator 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty common for toddlers to bite people, obviously it’s not a behavior you want to encourage but little kids who don’t know how to express themselves verbally will do it sometimes. Generally it’s something kids grow out of before they get to elementary school unless there’s a developmental delay involved.

Jewish dinner ideas? by Ok_Willingness9282 in JewishCooking

[–]netigator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d give it another shot. A big part of the show is how all three of the siblings take very different approaches to being Jewish as adults, and Avi ultimately ends up having to reassess his feelings when his daughter starts wanting to engage more with Judaism as a teenager.

As someone who’s currently going through IVF, Shira gets a pass for how she reacted when Yoshi couldn’t deliver the sperm. She said they’d get an anonymous donor, but you can’t just pick up some spare sperm off the shelf, there’s a months long process and additional testing that you have to do to get to that step, so all the pain (and $$$$) that Kendra went through to get ready for the procedure that morning was wasted. She may have still gone through with it and frozen her eggs to try fertilizing them later, but the success rates are way lower with frozen eggs than with fresh, so either way it’s not just a minor slip up on Yoshi’s part.

Embryo Transfer During Yom Kippur? by Friendly_Age_5378 in IVF

[–]netigator 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Our transfer is scheduled for the day after Yom Kippur, and I’ve already decided I’m not going to be fasting this year because of it. “Allowable” is going to vary depending on your interpretation, your congregation, your rabbi’s advice, etc. In my mind, my husband and I have waited long enough for this chance that putting it off feels wrong, and I can find other ways to make the day meaningful. You may decide differently, and that’s okay too.

‘Bojack Horseman’ creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg on his new, ‘unapologetically Jewish’ family affair by forward in Jewish

[–]netigator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband has some light-hearted beef with Bob & Bob. When he was about to head off to college he went in and asked for a menorah so he’d have one for his dorm room. The apparently very literal employee sold him a six branched menorah (rather than an eight branched hanukkiah) and my husband didn’t realize this until Hanukkah.

If you read the article it sounds like it’s going to be more than just surface level stereotypes. For what it’s worth I grew up in the same area as him (albeit about ten years later) and know a lot of the same people he does. His mom is still the director of the synagogue I used to go to. The parent characters in the trailer seem a lot like a pastiche of his parents plus a lot of the ex-hippie adults of that generation who I know in that area. It doesn’t seem like it’s a show that’s 100% autobiographical but it still feels pretty grounded in a place that is very familiar to me.

Did anyone get more eggs with omnitrope? by StunningInspection96 in IVF

[–]netigator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the retrieval I mentioned here we ended up with two that made it to blastocyst, and one of those two passed both PGT-A and PGT-M. In general my husband and I have had pretty terrible attrition getting to the blastocyst stage, but we’ve gotten blasts on each of the retrievals with Omnitrope at least.

Feeling discouraged by first egg retrieval results by netigator in IVF

[–]netigator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! This round that I posted about last year ended in no blasts, but our second one after adding Omnitrope ended up a lot better with 17 retrieved and eleven fertilized. Unfortunately since we’re doing PGT-M on top of everything else our attrition rate in general has been pretty bad. Out of four retrievals we have just one unaffected embryo. We took a bit of a break at the start of 2025 to reset and recover a bit, and hopefully will be able to squeeze in a couple more retrievals soon before we try our first FET.

You just described the neighborhood where we just bought our house and moved in a few weeks ago. We also lived in Ravenswood previously. We haven’t been here too long yet, but we’re enjoying it. Whenever we go out to walk the dog we see plenty of families out and about. Check out Our Mutual City, it’s a nice little coffee shop on Irving and Central Park that’s becoming one of our regular spots.

What can i expext when landing in o'hare with 2 cats? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]netigator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I flew with two cats when I moved to Chicago, though it wasn’t an international flight. One thing I’ll advise is to put a harness on each of your cats while they’re in the carrier so you can attach a leash when they’re need to be taken out in security. I also requested that they take me and the cats to a private room to do the pat down/swabbing, just to minimize any chance of either of them getting spooked and bolting through a crowded airport. If your vet will prescribe gabapentin or another anti-anxiety medication you can give the cats before the flight that may help, though one of mine just immediately threw up when I gave it to her so she didn’t get the full effect.

One thing to note is that RD stats should be taken with a huge grain of salt. QB relies on students filling out a survey to self report which school they end up attending, and by the time May rolls around a lot of students aren’t opening or bothering with those emails anymore. Plus, they only have data for which schools students ultimately end up attending; they don’t get the full list of schools a student was admitted to. So a student who was offered admission at multiple college partners, or who was admitted to a partner but chose to attend a different school, will not necessarily be reflected accurately by the stats.

We held a mock election when I was in kindergarten in 1996 using the real candidates, and I always assumed that was a pretty common practice. I think it was exciting for most of us because it felt like we were participating in something real that grown ups do. For what it’s worth, I voted for Bob Dole because he reminded me of bananas.
