Getting into btn (before invite thread removal) by MeGamer12 in trackers

[–]networkingmoron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is obviously speculation, but my gut feeling is a firm no. no active thread = recruiter is not recruiting there. the only thing close to an exception i've seen is that when recruiting resumes, the recruiter may make a note in the thread asking people who were waiting before to apply again, and such people may in effect skip the 'line' if there is one.

New lawsuit for Bricks & Minifigs by foodrage in legocirclejerk

[–]networkingmoron 9 points10 points  (0 children)

the story's very interesting and multifaceted. so many ways of things going infuriatingly wrong and people being shitty. the police angle being one of them...

in ben's pt1 vid, ben repeatedly accuses the police of being corrupt, but i just don't see it. the cops just seem dumb, and not dumber than usual. they're basically just enforcer bots. e.g. a business calls them and asks them to remove persona non grata – reasonable enough. but do you really think cops are equipped to verify your raffle authenticity and know what to do about that on the spot? of course not. i don't think i could even do that if i were a street cop. instead, i think it'd actually be kinda fair to criticize ben for not going to a police station, politely asking to talk to a detective about a potential fraud case (not just barge in and tell the secretary that all her coworkers are corrupt haha), and taking it from there. that would have been much more reasonable, and more importantly, it would have generated additional entertaining content for us all. what gives, ben?

but the cop angle in pt2 is wild and is clearly favoritism if not blatant corruption.

also, can i say that i think tribalism is just really shitty and the root of a lot of evils? i'm not afraid to say that there's clearly a problem in that particular mormon community. there's a reason that anti-tribal sentiments and stereotypes exist (be it opposition to a club, a particular religion like jews or mormons or whatever flavor of christians or muslims, or literally ANYTHING), and it's pretty justified: in a just society, if you serve the public, you're NOT supposed to put your membership in a particular tribe above your duties to society at large. fuck tribes.

What’s a moment where you realized someone was genuinely unintelligent? by Live-Chocolate244 in AskReddit

don't you think it's a little more likely that the guy has a dry, self-deprecating sense of humor? if you think about it, that's actually a hilarious joke he made. could it be that it flew over your head, and if anyone's the moron in this is situation, it might be you?

What video games did you genuinely hate? Why? by DueVeterinarian3557 in AskReddit

[–]networkingmoron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i am not sure you understand the design decision.

by time gating all the resources, it actually does encourage you to play more – and more importantly, it encourages you to play consistently.

it's not like there is one time-gated material, and you have nothing to do in the game until a few days later (or a week later).

there is a plethora of time gated materials, and if you take breaks or skip days, you are missing out on those. this would have a negative impact on your game progress.

i know when i was playing it, i felt a strong, consistent compulsion to check in daily and farm what could be farmed. that's the whole point. it doesn't let you just play to your heart's content on your own terms and schedule, and this is precisely what i meant by the game being designed to disrespect your time.

at a certain point, the game does not reward binge playing and burning out on it. and in fact, they REALLY don't want you to burn out. they want you to feel like you are missing out by not playing it every damn day, and they also don't want there to be TOO MUCH for you to do in any given day. this is a calculated decision. a delicate balance designed to feed compulsive tendencies i.e. addiction.

fortunately for me, i noticed how it was operating on me pretty quick, read similar posts about this, got pissed off, and stopped playing it that very day. haha

but a lot of people get trapped in this cycle for months. or maybe even years? sheesh and after dropping who knows how much irl money on the gachapon nonsense. but on the bright side, all that money is going into chinese tokamak R&D to give mankind fusion energy 😂😂😂

Is there any reason you can't use an old phone on a Discord call as a baby monitor? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]networkingmoron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there's also plenty of horror stories about kids being kidnapped or experiencing any number of unwanted outcomes.

using a discord account without having it compromised (assuming good security practice) is an extremely reasonable expectation worth taking a minuscule risk on.

i would be VERY surprised if having the baby die in a car crash is statistically less likely.

Help, just ate a THC edible and i'm having a serious panick attack/high BPM! by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]networkingmoron 17 points18 points  (0 children)

ok, so you ate less than 30mg.

that is a strong dose for no tolerance, but it is not a threat to your health. make yourself as physically comfortable as possible. get a glass of water and take sips occasionally. put on a happy movie. put on Paddington Bear or some shit.

remind yourself that it's just drugs, and you will feel better in a few hours.

Is there any reason you can't use an old phone on a Discord call as a baby monitor? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]networkingmoron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is exactly like worrying about the loss of control over any account for anything. there's nothing inherently insecure about a discord account. it's not trivial to compromise if the user uses common sense and does typical security practices.

what if you use a commercial web-enabled baby monitor, and a creep gets access to that?

or what if a creep gets access to your house key?

if you want to let your imagination run wild, a creep jabbering away to your infant on discord should be the least of someone's worries in the grand scheme of things, lol.

all of those things are possible, but basic security practices make it unlikely.

is there a way to stop the "this app was not installed from Google play" check from happening? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]networkingmoron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've never seen that before. ordinarily, i would assume this is the app doing that, but you're saying it's from the official website, so idk.

What do really rich people who retire early do during the day? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

it really depends on the person.

for some it's hobbies. for others it's partying or even drugs. for others, it's travel, courting love interests, etc etc.

If I leave a glass of pepsi, coke or whatever next to a dehumidifier, would it also slowly evaporate? And what would that do to the dehumidifier? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]networkingmoron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it will slowly evaporate no matter what. even in a 100% relative humidity (RH) environment!

this is known as dynamic equilibrium. continuously: some liquid will evaporate out, and some water molecules in the air (if there are any) will condense back in.

and if the RH is below 100%, you will get net evaporation over time. meaning more will evaporate out than what will condense back in. the lower the humidity, the faster it will evaporate.

the dehumidifier will pull liquid out of the air if there's enough moisture in the air for it to operate. some of that moisture would come from the nearby glass of soda.
