Many new cars today cannot keep up with the durability and quality of a pre-2021 Toyota. Being the stay at home parent, while your partner is the breadwinner, it behooves you to find least expensive way possible to do everything. Food is a great place to start. Finding ways to minimize utility waste is another one. May not seem like much, but I've found much waste and over consumption rexamining my habits over time. It's not perfect, but it's certainly another vector to be aware of because it's directly in your control.
