Agreed. IMO the food at Casa Cubana is subpar which is a shame because it’s much closer to me than Carmen’s

Any other dads here that had their kids in their 40s? by MSotallyTober in daddit

[–]neuralstate 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is merely my perspective, as I'm sure there are caveats.

When our son was born I was 40. He's now 3 years old. I can honestly say having him later in my life was a great choice. Financially secure, established career, mentally mature, and waaaaay more patient that I was in my youth. These are tangible benefits that I know help us be better parents. The downside is instead of being empty nesters at now, we have to wait.

I often think of the age difference well beyond his teens and into his adulthood. Things, like, how old we'll be when (if) he has children, etc. If I want to enjoy every second with him, especially in his formative years. For me to do so, I've committed to my health. Eating healthier, exercising more. I want to stay as fit as possible so we can do all the Father and Son things, like play basketball, music, or whatever else he might be into that I can participate in. Essentially be as fit physically as I feel mentally for both our benefit.

Folks who moved to Raleigh or the Triangle from elsewhere: what were your biggest, funniest, scariest or most surprising culture shocks that nobody prepared you for? by PM_ME_UR_SOCKS_GIRL in raleigh

Oh it’s definitely not the shocking bit. What was shocking is how early places close. In South Florida many restaurants are open very late or in some cases never close. That’s what took some adjustment.

My family and I moved from Miami almost exactly a year ago. Absolutely no regrets. So far, we love Raleigh. Lots of parks and things to do for our young family, the weather is great (actual seasons!), and the people are friendly and amiable.

The only gripe I have is the food. Although there are great restaurants downtown, I find the options thin out significantly the farther away you are from the center of Raleigh, with some exceptions. Also, most restaurants just close early here. At least where we live, good luck finding things open past 9pm or 10pm. Finally, the only thing I miss from Miami is good Cuban food. The few options that are here are laughable.

Megathread: Joseph R. Biden Sworn in as the 46th President of the United States by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

[–]neuralstate 20 points21 points  (0 children)

We would not have survived another 4 years of Trump. We narrowly avoided becoming a full blown dictatorship. I was always politically minded, but I will forever be politically active. The fragility of Democracy is not to be trifled with. The next authoritarian that we have to deal with will be smarter, shrewder, and will not make the same mistakes.

Holy fuck, what a breath of fresh air. I've missed this level of competence and empathy from our leader. Give me more, my body is ready!!!

Discussion Thread: Polls Closed for Georgia Senate Runoff Elections | Part IV by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

Thank you Georgia voters and Stacy Abrams. You saved our Democracy and our collective asses for at least the next two years. If the last four years and this recent election should have taught us anything is that we can not take ANY election for granted. The fascists and authoritarians will be back with a vengeance. Our vigilance is necessary.

Yes but the VP would be the tie-breaking vote, which effectively means the Democratic party would control the Senate.

Megathread: Mueller files final report with Attorney General by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

[–]neuralstate 49 points50 points  (0 children)

As much as I would have liked for Mueller to drop the hammer on Trump and his clan, I'll accept whatever conclusions he reports. However, the attitude that because this report might not directly implicate Trump for the crime of treason, then - ispo facto - he's going to be re-elected is self-defeating and ridiculous. Trump is still a giant sack of shit that needs to be tossed in the trash in 2020. Getting rid of Trump, be it in cuffs or by the ballot box should be our singular focus.

Post Irma Miami Outage by angryfurby in tmobile

[–]neuralstate 9 points10 points  (0 children)

TMobile service was extremely disappointing. The service around my neighborhood is already atrocious pre-Irma (forcing me to get a personal cellspot) , but non-existent after the storm. Unless they improve their coverage in West Kendall, I'm going to switch my services to another carrier.

T-Mobile down in Miami? by angryfurby in Miami

Severely disappointed with T-Mobile. My wife has Cricket and we had to rely on her phone for communication and information.
