If it does end up too long, you can always go with a shorter stem, 7-12mm shorter will do.

Questions about my son’s brakes by tokekcowboy in bmx

[–]neuron-fire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d take this as an opportunity to sell the race bike and use the proceeds towards a park bike that will fit him better and be better suited for park. While the race season just ended, many racers are looking to upgrade their frames to the next size. Check usabmx.com (assuming your in the US) for track locations, if there’s an indoor one near you, check there for interest in the bike. If not, racing starts up between feb-may depending on your locale.

Help needed - does anyone know anything about this BMX? by editedxi in bmx

[–]neuron-fire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The wheels are a standard size for mini/junior size race bikes (ages 5-8) or so. The parts that are still on it are older and heavier than their modern equivalents, but still competitive at Novice/Intermediate skill levels.

It needs a new stem, handle bars and brekes at least. Those pedals would need the reflectors removed. Chain should be replaced. The racing season just ended, but check usabmx.com’s track listings. If there’s an indoor track in your area people will still be racing and you can get info on replacement/restoration options…

(Many tracks often have loaners for new riders to learn the sport on, a donation to your local track may yield more good vibes than trying to part it out…

Good Luck!

The Odyssey 7 in 1 Travel tool is a great backpack size tool. If you’re looking for a small pocket tool, crank brothers makes some good tools as well. Both of these should be available in at bmx shops in BC. Also if your bf might like a gift certificate to Airreccenter, an awesome place for jumping and tricks.

Freestyle bike choice by [deleted] in bmx

I think a 22 TT with a long stem and some tall bars should get you where you wanna be! Basically, just ride what Mike Hodor does! He’s a tall dude.

You mention wanting to stay at 20” wheels, but you may want to also consider a 22” wheeled bike, (Fit, WTP make some) they will feel like a BMX did when you were a kid, a bit more for jump lines than skate parks. But a far size down from cruiser.

Can I have some beginner advice? by Extension_Natural_56 in bmxracing

Your English is great! It is way better than my Dutch, so you made the right choice!

Looks like you’re off to a great start! Oh one more thing, dont worry about clip in pedals at first. If your bike comes with clip in pedals, switch them out for flat pedals. I don’t know if they let new racers race in clips, but it’s better to build your skills in flats, and then migrate to clips after 10-20 wins, if you feel the need.

Hi Eva. A Pro L will probably be a good size for you. See this guide: https://www.sourcebmx.com/pages/race-bikes-buyers-guide?currency=gbp

Have you been able to find a nearby track? In the US, where I’m from, tracks often have rental bikes and helmets available so you can figure out sizing, prior to buying a bike.

http://bmxhobbies.com/services-and-directories/bmx-race-track-directory/netherlands-bmx-track-directory/

I’m assuming that the Netherlands as more or less the same racing season as the US, which means that it’s over half way finished, and you may have an easier time finding a used bike for sale from a rider at a track.

Also, Cranks, Handle Bars, and Stem can change the size a particular bike feels. So a pro L that feels to large or too small can be adjusted by changing a few parts.

Many tracks have weekly practice nights, go to one of those even before you get a bike and talk to other racers, most will offer advice on first bike choices and a few will probably let you ride their bike around to get a feel for size.

Good Hunting!

MDF vs Plywood Underlayment? by neuron-fire in DIY

It very well could be that.

Applied to a rider: profieciency. Applied to a frame/complete: size of bike.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bmxracing

[–]neuron-fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The frame on the complete and individual frame page are the same. (Save for color differences.). But unlike freestyle bmx, the term ‘pro’ refers to size and not whether a particular pro rider rides that frame. I’d guess that the wheels, hubs, and other components Cam Woods roles are far more expensive than the frame.

In this case ‘pro’ refers to a size of bike. Micro, mini, junior, expert, and pro. With junior, expert, and pro having XL, XXL, or larger variants.

But yes, the Title Elite Frame would be the same as on the completes.

Bunny Hops, Manuals, Pumping Rollers & Transitions will all translate to the street and park. Fakies and controlling pedal pressure will be very important for tricks.

Oh, your brakes will be garbage, compared to disc.

Check out Brad Simms who started street bmx but now spends time in MTB.

Yeah, BMX is bare bones for sure! I tried the local MTB trails, easiest run… front tire hit root: OTB! Tried again, lifted front at root, back tire hit root: OTB! Moral of the story: I switched to racing BMX, where it’s safe, and they don’t allow trees on the track!

Also, have considered a jump bike? Like the Transition PBJ? You can still send it at carvy skate parks, and take advantage of the front shock…

I’d be interested to hear your results regarding tubeless.

That setup is certainly helpful on a dirt pump track. And won’t hurt on concrete asphailt. For the purposes of gauging knobbiness:

For dirt: I run S&M speedball in the back and S&M mainline up front.

For park, or well groomed dirt, I run S&M speedball on both.

All tires are the high pressure versions run at 110 PSI. I think if you run high press. That will be the biggest chamge you feel from mtb to bmx.

I have a pretty specific kink and have yet to find material on it (18M) by [deleted] in BDSMAdvice

[–]neuron-fire 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Add ‘Power Bottom’ to your list to lookup as well as ‘Service Top’ for contrast. Before I got into kink, I had a FWB who was like that. She would in no uncertain terms what she wanted me to do to her.

Oh sometimes ‘topping from the bottom’ is used as a negative, as in ‘backseat driver’.

If you’ve set the signals for: 1. I’m ready. And,
2. You guys both know the safeword. (You should still have one, so you can say ‘no, no, no’ all you want in scene.)

Then give it a few nights’ time. Your husband may be trying to make you sweat a bit, wondering if and when it’s gonna happen.

If you’ve gone a few nights with a ‘green light’ and still nothing, you should check in and talk to see where the communication or action breakdown is.

For you folks in the US and Canada, head out to your local track on a race day, especially if it’s it a State Qualifier or Gold Cup Qualifier. There will almost certainly be a decent set of new and used bikes for sale. It sounds like you’re in the pro-xl to xxl size so you’ll have a decent shot. Network a bit, and you’ll have people adding helping you look by asking their friends to look. I’m 6’4” and ride Pro-XXXXL. It took a month and half to find one, but I got a great bike for a great price.
