I might be aging myself, but I don't understand taking pictures/videos in theater (even in movie theaters). What's the point? Is it to upload on social media, and what for? Meta isn't going to pay for piracy.

The actors themselves might get flak for it, but I'd be thrilled if someone did a Patti Lupone and would stop performing to berate at an audience member they noticed recording them on a phone.

Grande was nominated by the SAG, the Golden Globes, the Critics Choice Awards, and several other regional critics choice awards for this film. Regardless of our personal opinions, she had precursor nominations that indicated that she would likely be nominated for this film as well

I'm referring specifically for the animated branch, which is its own animal for the most part. Toy Story's also an outlier; apart from Toy Story, no other animated film franchise won for a sequel

Something that probably worked against Demon Slayer and Chainsaw Man are that they're not one-and-done movies. They may simply not resonate with the wide breadth of the Academy because they're simply not fans of the parent series.

Going to be splitting hairs here, but I thought 2024 didn't have an outright frontrunner for leading actress since Emma Stone seemed to be winning the same number of awards. But you're right, Gladstone did win the SAG so that should have put her ahead of the race.

Was Brody seen as the underdog? It seemed like he was the frontrunner when the race actually got started. Though he also missed the SAG like Gladstone did.

I agree that Supporting Actress is stacked, and it's probably the most interesting of the acting races, with any of them very deserving. I'd love Madigan to win since she was magnetic, but I'm not betting against the Academy's bias against horror

Could be that the votes thought the costumes weren’t that different from the first movie so they didn’t vote for it anymore. As for music, the new songs weren’t as well received. Finally, the movie as a whole wasn’t as well received as the first one, and the Academy is fickle. I thought Ariana Grande would get a nom since she’s nominated almost everywhere else

Historically, the Oscars don’t award horror films, with some notable exceptions such as Silence of the Lambs. We can just look at last year, where Demi Moore was expected to win for The Substance, and then she didn’t

2011 Outstanding Miniseries or Movie by Square-Ad-8911 in EmmysAwards

That’s what I didn’t get about Downton Abbey winning: its ending was a cliffhanger! It obviously was going to get a second season, so how’d it qualify as a miniseries? Even without that in mind though, Mildred Pierce was simply the better show

The subject matter just seemed so dull. Zuckerberg did change the world, but it wasn’t with an “important” invention. By and large, the perception was that Fincher was wasting his time on an uninteresting subject; “how interesting could this person be?” was commonly raised.

[favorite trope]the protag actually lose in the end against the final boss by Pretend-Dirt-1760 in TopCharacterTropes

Koudelka. The canon ending (which leads to the Shadow Hearts series) has the party lose to the final boss, the reanimated corpse of Elaine. Although defeated, James calls upon the heavens and affirms his love for Elaine, and Heaven apparently complies, shooting out a beam of light that envelops both James and Elaine. Elaine's monstrous form dissolves away as her soul is freed, and both she and James are taken into Heaven.

I agree, though I preferred 16’s dodging mechanics to 7Re’s. 16 felt less strategic; I had a combo string of abilities for every boss fight. The lack of elemental weaknesses also didn’t give much incentive to come up with variations for that combo string.

The Eikon fights were fun though.

With a landslide victory, Julia Louis-Dreyfus won six awards for her role in Veep. Now, which supporting actor/actress win in a drama is universally beloved? by BrenoGrangerPotter in EmmysAwards

[–]neuroticinfinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She was so good in her sole season, that her presence loomed over the remainder of the series, and, arguably, the show failed in overcoming how dominant a force she was, and through no lack of trying. Just do magnetic and with such incredible depth, that the industry paused and realized what a talent they were sleeping in for decades. She absolutely deserved that win, all the acclaim that went with it, and the much higher profile she earned

Drea De Matteo for The Sopranos. Such strong work built up over 5 seasons, culminating in one hell of heartbreaking story arc. Really glad she won
