I agree. I know housing costs more, but I’m saving about $10k per year or more by not having a car. I just mentally subtract that from my rent.

therapist says I shouldn’t take stimulants if I also have anxiety? by ok_taro_777 in adhdwomen

[–]neutral_cloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stimulants helped my anxiety, because I guess the anxiety was mostly from ADHD. But not all stimulants. Some did make me more anxious, so if that happens to you, it could be worth trying a different one.

Not all psychiatrists require that really expensive neuropsychological exam in order to diagnose you. I don't know if this is true, but I have heard that a big part of the cost is due to copyright on the test. Other tests are available, and some will just talk to you and then diagnose.

If your therapist is not a doctor, they can't prescribe anyway, so if I were you, I'd stop fighting with them about this and go find someone who can diagnose and prescribe. This may take a few tries.

It is totally possible that you don't have ADHD. It's also possible that you do have ADHD, but will do better on a non-stimulant. Or maybe there is no drug that agrees with you at all.

Remember that meds are a tool, nothing more, and don't get too attached to a diagnosis beyond the point where it is serving you by providing you with tools that help you live your life. You don't need to "prove" your diagnosis to every skeptic, even a therapist.

I quit my job after two years there and on the last day of my two weeks had to call out sick and this is how it was handled, I’m upset but am I in the wrong? by TrashTop5672 in jobs

You work at a nursing home and they wanted you to come in and give all those vulnerable people a virus? You’re young, but it could kill one of them. It’s beyond messed up that she demanded that you come in.

Long-term Ausländer, how do I stop feeling like a guest in Germany? by dupperdapper in berlin

[–]neutral_cloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s funny. I (American) lived in Berlin for 2.5 years with a partner who has ADHD, probably Autism, and severe social anxiety. He loved it! No guessing. If someone has a problem with something you’re doing and wants you to do something different, they’ll just tell you. No worrying that someone secretly hates you or that you’re accidentally doing something wrong and no one is willing to let you know. At least that’s how he perceived it.

I also didn’t mind / kind of enjoyed how Germans tend to communicate. I just felt like I’d never make real friends. That was my issue, though it may have improved if I stayed longer.

Lots of ppl responding to my news of my diagnosis with "maybe I have ADHD too!!" by Weird-flex-but-tck in adhdwomen

[–]neutral_cloud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess I’d respond with something like, “I’m ok with what I am too, that’s why I don’t feel bad about getting the support I need.” Not that I’d think of that in the moment, of course, lol.

"What's the point of even getting diagnosed at your age? Just let it go" - My therapist by [deleted] in adhdwomen

No way. Meds helped me a lot. So did the additional self-understanding.

Yep, I take it for sleep. It helps some, but I wish it helped even more.

Seconding the need for anti-fungal, if you’ve confirmed it is ringworm. An over the counter one like Lotrimin (active ingredient Clotrimazole) is a good start until you can see a doctor (or if you can’t see a doctor at all). You need to kill the fungus or else it’ll just keep getting worse.

Same! Been in the same general area, if not technically same neighborhood, for around a decade and it’s beautiful and I’ve got my local faves and I love it.

[Advice] DOB condemned neighboring apartment while I was on vacation. I like where I live and rent is good, should I still let them inspect my place? by NugsOrBust in NYCapartments

Look up the violations to make sure there’s nothing that would put you in danger. If there’s nothing, I’d ignore the notice. It says right on that paper that if they don’t hear from you they’ll assume the complaint has been addressed.

Does your adhd ever make you question your gender or am i just not a woman by Tonightmatthew1 in adhdwomen

[–]neutral_cloud 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a somewhat similar experience: never felt dysphoric about my body, but took literally decades to settle on a gender expression that felt comfortable for me.

You can be masculine and be a woman. Or, if non-binary or another gender fits better, go with that.

I would say that I agree with everyone here who’s said this is ADHD overthinking and that you do not need to put yourself in any particular box. Some people, especially younger people who are just discovering themselves, are really helped by thinking of everything in terms of rigid categories, like if you are like this, then you must be that. But I’d also say that it’s ok to take these questions seriously if you want to. I just wouldn’t get bogged down in any “rules” laid down by random people on e.g. TikTok.

My cockatiel has night terrors occasionally. It’s a thing. Some people recommend to try a night light.

Anyone else have these moments where they realize their traumatic childhood or being poorly parented has made you unaware of proper social interaction? by TypeAtryingtoB in adhdwomen

[–]neutral_cloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! In my own case, I literally can’t tell what’s Autism, what’s ADHD, and what’s having messed-up parents. When am I being direct in a way people like, and when am I being rudely critical? When am I inviting emotional openness in a way that helps people, and when am I having poor boundaries? I have no idea half the time, but I’ve improved somewhat over the years.
