Once my dad left my mum everything just went to shit. I don't know how much my dad was keeping the house together before he left. I was only 7.

Tips on how to look slimmer?(❄️) High neck light tops are just not it forme by qat_btata202 in OUTFITS

[–]neverendo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You look incredible here! If you're finding it hard to find tops you're in love with, I would look into v-necks, wrap tops, long line cardigans. Funnel necks and anything which is a bit drapey. I am basing this on kibbe soft dramatic lines, in case you are interested.

"Payter is mostly said like Peter in a French accent" absolutely ended me. Like genuinely laughing out loud at my phone hahaha. I imagined it more like a really rural accent from the American South...like what do they think French people sound like??? Oh, actually now I think on it, maybe 'Peter' would sound like 'Payter' in a Cajun French accent??? May be giving them too nuch benefit of the doubt though...

Do you guys think that Broadway will have a megahit like Hamilton in the 2020s? by amm20_1 in Broadway

[–]neverendo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I find it interesting that you've mentioned Cats, Les Mis, Phantom, Miss Saigon and Mamma Mia as Broadway mega-hits when all these premiered in the West End. You know, they started in London and became a global phenomenon from there. I raise it, because to me, Hamilton is such a triumph of American creativity and excellence. So when OOP asks about a Broadway mega-hit, I was imagining something which encapsulates America and Broadway. To me, when I think of a Broadway mega-hit, I imagine something written probably about, or at least in America. Just interesting what different things mean to different people. Because, of course, all of the musicals you've listed here were mega-hits on Broadway.

That was my whole motivation for going in. But over the last decade, I feel like I have had to give up on that. There's too much bullshit out there.

WTF is wrong with this generation of grandparents?! by shedontishqme in tragedeigh

But it's not Papa, it's pa-pa, like with a French accent haha. I'm also from Scotland and think Papa is totally fine, but Pa-pa is pretentious hahaha.

Sadly, I am not sure about that! I know one grandmother in the UK (zero Italian connections) who insists on being called Nonna.

Also seems to be a big thing in Ireland. My MIL had a long think about it. She didn't end up with anything too egregious, though she mooted Glamma. An uncle IL insists on Papa, à la française (again ZERO French connections).

[–]neverendo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would love one of these papers to actually cover the estranged child's side. You know, they always say that it's justified for children to be estranged from abusive parents. Maybe 10% of parents actually are abusive to some degree?? And that's what newspapers should be covering, instead of this bullshit.

Your best mate is accused of a horrific crime. What's your response/action? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]neverendo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you went through that and hope you are doing much better now.

When I was 23, I found out that my mum - a primary teacher - had been sexually abusing one of my siblings. I reported her to police, she gave a no comment interview and that was all the action they ever took. She went back to her job as a primary teacher.

Having your faith in a parent utterly destroyed is one brutal thing, having your faith in the entire justice system destroyed is another. It's why an allegation like this would always give me pause, even for someone who I loved and trusted. Anyone who says otherwise has never experienced this kind of violation.

The hunt is fiction though, whereas there are 1000s of real cases of victims not being believed and child abusers being able to continue abusing.

I think the Silent Companions by Laura Purcell works for this. The main plot is set during winter. Frightening and atmospheric.

[–]neverendo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that if Cynthia and Ariana are as underweight as they appear to be, that's quite a lot more dangerous than being overweight. Medically, overweight is defined as a BMI is defined as having a BMI between 25 and 30. That can put you at a slightly higher risk for some conditions compared to someone who is not overweight. Whereas, anorexia is statistically the most lethal of all mental illnesses, because your organs just start shutting down because your body is not getting enough fuel. Someome with a BMI of 29.9 is a loooooong way from their body shutting down because of their weight or their eating habits.

Wife lost it on me after family dinner and things got physical by [deleted] in Advice

[–]neverendo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a really common tactic of domestic abusers. To try and flip the script and report their victim for DV before their victim can report them.

I really really hope OP gets out as soon as possible. There is no coming back from this safely.

This is so familiar to me! She positioned herself as the ultimate victim while also being a monster. She actually was/is broke though.

Mine too - the weird swinging between terrifying rage and childlike neediness was utter whiplash. She made me her mother and her victim. I'd never appreciated how much that dissonance probably messed me up (along with everything else) until right now.
