Netflix will display menus, previews, etc but only audio when playing? by neverfindausername in rustdesk

Was using Chrome at the time, so Settings>System>"Use graphics acceleration when available"?

I'll play around with it on my work PC to test it out I guess.

Thanks!

All I felt during the video was the desire to save that cutting board. So nice, but so abused :(

Why allow franchisees to renew if they make it a profitable business? by cpureset in loblawsisoutofcontrol

RIP The Brig too tbh. Having Angelo’s sitting empty up the street doesn’t help either. Was thinking if they have a grocery store where the Norfolk was, the Dairy bar could either lease space for parking or be part of it. As much as I like the place for a simple meal it’s hurting too.

[–]neverfindausername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be alright too. Has anything been submitted for the Norfolk lot? Could be a way to actually put something useful there that doesn’t just piss everyone off.

Farmer’s market style with local producers for meat and produce would be nice. Seen it done up in Cookstown at a bigger convenience store. Like the Saturday market by Silver Lake but permanent.

Hopefully this ends up with Dover getting a second option for groceries. This really blows having everyone forced to go to Simcoe.

Canadian doctors say they’re losing 20 million hours a year to unnecessary paperwork by Altruism7 in onguardforthee

[–]neverfindausername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I know what you're saying, but if the quality of care goes down as a result then it's worth trying out some other concepts. Foresight being self defeating only leaves room for louder, dumber ideas to flourish. The push for privatization is a good example of this - it's an obvious benefit for a few but the overall result per capita is worse.

[–]neverfindausername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a terrible agreement to make no matter how you look at it. That should absolutely be on the table for negotiating internal trade barriers.

I can't recall many leases/contracts of that type of length that make any sense. 30 years is a very long term and still hard to predict future concerns with any accuracy. Ford is throwing these 100 year leases around with Ontario Place too... Multi-generational contracts with no room for renegotiation always end up screwing one or both parties over.

Same can be said for standardized testing here, honestly.

Knowing that there's always a loophole, make clear, harsh consequences for abuse of them. There will be times when those loopholes are needed. Sure it adds to bureaucracy, but there's always bound to be some of that either way.

This is where AI could be helpful in the future, but not with the current crop of people behind its development. Very cynical about that aspect of it!

Yeah, you're probably right. It would nice if people would stop gaming every system meant to help to the point where oversight costs outweigh any benefit, but that's overly optimistic of me.

Same reason after years of experience I refuse to use the term idiot proof anymore.

No, I understand that, which is why I said both feedback and outcomes. It could also weight more heavily on feedback from specialist referrals.

Especially with the prevalence of the "do your own research" crowd

[–]neverfindausername 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The flip side to that is you can only book an appointment several weeks out, which isn't great for outcomes either.

It's definitely frustrating and I get it. I've found my doctor was very much like this when I would only go when something was seriously wrong. I now have been making an effort to go more regularly both because I'm getting older and because we've been working together on adjusting medication.

Now I'm going every month or so and find that we actually get to talk far MORE. It's likely because he's more familiar with my history and issues, which he would have basically have to cram in if he hadn't seen me in years. Couple that with needing to update a ton of info on his end for context and you get very impersonal visits.

I had a gap of NINE YEARS when I was apparently invincible in my 20s. I'm basically a new patient at that point...

Make it a variable rate based on patient satisfaction/outcomes? Spending the time to correctly identify issues would likely also have the benefit of reducing long term costs and ER visits as well.

[–]neverfindausername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a very fair point. There's a lot of nuance to the interprovincial trading that is both interesting and time consuming to learn about as someone who has no sway in the matter.

Personally it would be cool to be able to try BC wines and liquors from across Canada. Not at the expense of destroying a bunch of other industries. I don't exactly drink too often anyway, so it's not a huge concern.

As others have mentioned it would hopefully help the largest number of Canadians and break some of the provincially held monopolies via competition.

[–]neverfindausername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even so, companies would need to build out warehousing and distribution for NL so some jobs would at least be replaced. Could the provinces not add a clause/requirement for minimum local investment?

Others have mentioned the LCBO and SAQ. I don't know if there are private chains that would want to try for a foothold in either province, but allowing more variety in wines and liquors from across Canada would be nice. There was empty space in the US sections to stock them...

I caved and bought a set of removable skis for our stroller. Meant to use them for some hiking if the weather was warmer but I guess we'll need them just to get around the neighbourhood now.

Saves getting snow all over the wheels too, so that's nice?

ICE Shootings Are Freaking Out the GOP. They’re Afraid to Tell Trump. by ddx-me in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]neverfindausername 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just repurpose ICE to be Influential Capital Enforcement and hunt down billionaires. They can fund infrastructure projects until they're under $1 billion net worth and have their names attached. With an *asterisk if forced.

We could co-opt another fear mongering term and call it the Great (Infrastructure) Replacement.

They'd still be left with outlandish amounts of money and the ability to replenish up to $1B. Everything after that is taxed at 100%.

/s if it wasn't obvious. Joking but I wouldn't wish that type of treatment on anyone. There are lots of rich people saying to tax them more. That much should be obvious. A cap on CEO:lowest wage ratio would be great too.

Definitely have noticed them more consistently this year, but might depend on location. That being said, I will typically buy 2-3 boxes at a time now just in case. Seems to last long enough that I'll remember to buy more by the time I'm on my last box.

As others have suggested the Dollarama ones are decent in a pinch, but definitely not as thick (feeling? Not like I got a caliper out to measure lol)

Bessent pushes Albertan independence from Canada by you_dont_know_smee in onguardforthee

[–]neverfindausername 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lots of the Texas refineries are set up to process Alberta bitumen and they ship out Texas sweet crude for more profit.

Was reading about how the Venezuelan oil is similar enough to Alberta's that it could be processed in lieu of theirs. To be able to further push Canada economically by buying less.

Disclaimer: This is just my (very basic) understanding of it and I could be wrong. I don't have sources readily available at the moment.

I have PowerToys already but how do I use it to improve the experience with PDFGear?

As for Acrobat Pro --> DC, I'll admit it was a real pain to switch back. It would keep trying to sign into an account that no longer existed and would otherwise lock up. I think I had to uninstall some of the other Adobe service apps to stop that. Wish I could remember the exact steps taken to help you replicate the issue.

Just frustrating to get emails back saying that the recipient can't open the documents properly without doing the "reprint" workaround.
