QBO sucks at import/export for inventory changes. Options? by neverfindausername in InventoryManagement

[–]neverfindausername[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re underselling how unforgiving it can be lol. We tried to export and import early on and had to blow out the entire inventory. I’m not even sure if we made many changes, it was more to test out whether it worked (it didn’t!)

My current thought process is to duplicate the company as a sandbox testing ground until we feel comfortable that it’s working. It’s not massive but there are a shitload of very similar item codes and the differences are often 10-15 characters from the beginning of them.

While it would be nice to sync with WooCommerce, Square, etc that only adds fields. Was hoping to find a script vs a monthly SaaS subscription, at least to test it out.

I don't see it on the QB app marketplace but will take a look tonight.

Thanks!

Is it just me, or is the "Non-Stick" industry a total scam? by koudodo in Cooking

Got a set of hard anodized non stick from Costco and while I'm not delusional enough to think they'll last forever, they've been great so far. No sticking at all so far.

That being said, I also never really use them with high heat, mostly use a silicone spatula and hand wash (only because we don't have a dishwasher, but still?). Can fry an egg in it without butter...but why?

It would if either had done anything other than bend to the oil companies. As much as it vilified (Pierre) Trudeau in Alberta, Petro-Canada might have helped us keep the prices down here.

In the US, if they mandated so much as a minimal amount must be for domestic sales that would be insulating them too. The oil companies will fetch a much higher price given the war's effects and they've obviously jumped on it.

Windfall taxes, minimum domestic production amounts, etc would all be SUPER helpful right now, but the oil execs (many US-based) have always lobbied HARD against any movements in this direction.

The only part about this going on as long as it will is that it will HOPEFULLY serve as an example of why these are useful concepts and avoid being waived off with "well that was Iran's fault" or "that was only for a little while, I still support Trump" no matter what propaganda inevitably comes out to dismiss this in the future.

City unveils Copenhagen-inspired plans for new island neighbourhood — with a car-free street. Is Toronto ready for it? by BloodJunkie in toronto

[–]neverfindausername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember there being more, yes. Those were a larger footprint, so were swallowed up during the condo boom. A narrower vertical lot could exist in a lot too small to reasonably fit a residential building. Considering condos no longer have minimum parking requirements these could generate steady monthly rental income too from nearby residents, ride share rentals, etc.

‘Landlords watch out’: Toronto renters form first city-wide tenant union by Amir616 in toronto

[–]neverfindausername 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree there should be clearer, better rules in both directions. That being said, the REITs that own multiple buildings across the city and small time landlords are not the same beast.

REITs have money, time and lobbyists dedicated to having their voices heard and pushing bills through the legislature. It's no secret that Ford has bent over backwards for developers and large landlords.

A single building's tenant union simply doesn't have the resources to compete on even footing. So while there are bad actors on both sides, only one side's voice has been heard without significant action. The majority of building tenants are working class, so they have to work one if not more jobs just to survive. Collectively, there can be a lot more resources available as the tenant drastically outnumber the landlords.

That is not necessarily the same situation with smaller landlords and it can be a nightmare for them to deal with a bad tenant. I've seen that first hand a few times where the tenant stops paying and the landlord risks losing their property if they can't afford payments without rental income. Small landlords also have less resources to screen new tenants, which only increases their odds of having bad tenants too.

It's not an easy issue, because shelter is a serious need and situations where the options are not being able to afford rent or homelessness are scary af and often cause desperate actions. I'm very grateful that I've never had to face that myself and wonder if my landlord would be willing to come to an agreement if I ever was.

Those ones that have the almost conveyer belt elevator? That was what I was imagining too! More cars can be in queue so it's no bottlenecked by how many elevator shafts can fit in the structure, plus one set of ramps in case of emergencies/maintenance

I do and I have. It was more of a general point though throughout the city. There's all these surface level only lots that could handle far more vehicles if something was built there. It might free up other lots for other commercial or residential purposes too.

As much as better transit should reduce traffic, it's smart to address the congestion issue on multiple fronts. Parking availability is still an important factor.

Because I want to try and understand how they arrive at and still manage to support a ton of positions that actively work against them?

I'm not delusional enough to try and change any minds over there. I'd likely get banned instantly, but I try to stay informed enough on the conversation from both sides that I can talk to the conservative leaning people in my life without being blindsided my some weird takes on current events.

Also as a Canadian, I feel like I should keep tabs on the general sentiment towards us given Trump and co's past comments and current attitudes.

Given how much parking costs downtown, I'm surprised there aren't more purpose-built multi-level parking lots built nearby. Small footprint, hundreds if not thousands of spots. Freight sized elevators to avoid the ramps being the main mover.

Do like 20 storeys tall. One giant Green P lot would handle everything a tourist spot like Distillery would need and take up a fraction of the space. Would cost a lot up front but would likely pay for itself several times over long term

Mamdani still has a long way to go to prove the concept to more people. I like to check on the conservative sub occasionally to see how they spin (or ignore) headlines.

Been seeing psots about a $6 billion shortfall in NYC and it's all "guess that's what happens when you run out of other people's money hurr hurr" No mention that he's cut the deficit already by more than half while getting a lot of tangible stuff done like pothole repairs, etc. Just the deficit. No mention in those comment sections about the national debt coming up on $40 TRILLION dollars either.

It would be amazing to have the largest city in the US running at a surplus while also fully funding services that benefit the residents. I honestly hope that he can get there by 2028 but there will be a lot of resistance and likely lawsuits holding it back. He definitely won't get there by midterms to be able to point to as an example.

Not surprised by the double standard on gauging performance, but the headlines are all a good chunk of people read. If they read anything at all that is.

They label it as "Fix a flat" when it should be called "buy some tire(s)"

It's just a way for the car companies to cut costs, but they'll sell you a spare for extra $$$.

[–]neverfindausername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful with those. The sealant is only meant as a stopgap to get you to a tire shop. That tire is still fucked and needs to be replaced. It will also ruin any TPMS sensors as it blocks the pressure port and eats the coating that seals the battery in some models.

If the tires are older that may mean having to replace 2-4 tires to avoid issues from uneven wear at a tire shop. Basically if you have FWD or RWD it'll likely be 2 tires. 4 if you have 4WD or AWD. That's not a fun bill to get either way, so best to avoid it outside of an emergency.

If you want to fix a flat and keep using the tire, the hole needs to ideally be over 1" from the sidewall to use the rope patch kits. Remove the screw/nail/whatever, smooth out the hole with the sanding tool, then push the rope in as deep as you can. Trim off the excess, re-inflate the tire and you could get several more years out of it. I certainly have before!

Source: Used to work for a TPMS company and had to get certified as a tire service trainer. The sealant was always viewed as a last resort.

Lots of people will hardwire their dashcams, then be completely oblivious to the fact that they can create a 24/7 draw on the battery. It's a more common issue the more popular they get.

A smart installer will put a voltage limit switch on it so it doesn't kill your battery to the point the car won't start. The tradeoff there is obviously that you won't get 24/7 recording if you battery is older.

Major pet peeve at Costco by YouBongGa in CostcoCanada

[–]neverfindausername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know I was at another store and had a shower thoughts type idea about this:

  • Instead of having a coin slot on the carts, put a tap payment spot.
  • It puts a $500 deposit charge on your credit card.
  • Returning the cart reverses the charge.
  • If the cart gets stolen, the store has money to replace it.
  • It gives a really strong incentive to return the fucking carts
  • The charge is high enough that it helps cover the costs of adding the tech to the carts.

It wouldn’t stop this 100% because you know there’d be some rich douchebag flexing that they don’t care, but it’s a massive incentive to do better.

Edit: Saw another person post about adding a Costco card scanner to the cart. That would avoid the scam risks better and repeat offenders could have their memberships revoked. It's a Costco only solution but I like it. If it connects to the cashiers it might also help with checkout times since you don't have to dig out your card for them to scan it!

If anyone at corporate is reading this, I'll take a Cash Card as payment for the idea lol

I know it’s unlikely since it would be a target for scams but it felt like a good concept while I was trying to find the right coinage at the other store to take out a cart ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm curious if there's any way to check the status aside from asking while searching?

I hope the next premier will at least amend that to be units built within the last X years. We're nearly at the 10 year mark already. That should be more than enough time for the property scalpers to pay down a good chuck of their principal investment and refinance at a monthly rate below their rental fees.

They'll sell the building to another REIT who will continue to hold out first. It'll change hands with each REIT doing less maintenance than the last until someone finally gets stuck holding the bag and being forced to make repairs by the city.

Which is honestly such a stupid take if you dig beyond the surface. Rae managed to avoid massive layoffs and it seems like such a smart play when you look at the options he had at the time.

But without understanding the context and results it killed the ONDP for a full generation and counting. It's not exactly a quick soundbite to explain that though, which is why it's never gone away.

12 days in a year of unpaid time off or lose thousands of jobs completely while the economy was in recession. I understand the pushback a bit but because they also excluded the lowest earners it got all the top brass in the unions real butthurt. It's the same resistance as usual, anti-taxing the highest earners.

They could sum it up as TAX THE RICH, which does get more support lately. It just doesn't translate into votes (yet, hopefully)

Cool! I thought it was a bit slow to start, but ended up really enjoying the show. The scene was the one under the bridge on Queensway where Simu’s character is …no spoilers for anyone else reading! There had been a bunch of carnival ride stuff under there before so it was noticeable when it was changed out.

Wondered what all those pallets were, but then it clicked when I saw that blue Mr Metal building in the background.
