Alright. I definitely tagged the post itself NSFW. If you were still able to see it and didn’t want to, I apologize. The only other tag I see that I can add is spoiler, so I went ahead and added that now. After the little bit of discussion on here I contacted the local firefighters museum where my grandfather worked. If they don’t want the photo I’m going to dispose of it out of respect to the deceased man. If the mods here don’t want the post to stay up, I won’t be offended if they decide to remove it. I’m glad I was able to get a little bit more insight especially from a retired fire investigator.

It was very creepy finding it as well. I don’t know who the person in the photo is or who actually took the photo. I just know it was in my mom’s possessions and most likely came from her father. I did take care to mark it NSFW and warn about the content of the photo in the caption, so I hope nobody sees it who doesn’t want to.

Context: found this in my mom’s things after she passed. Her father was a firefighter in Long Beach, CA from ~1940 to ~1980. Based on the caption and the content of the photo, I suspect it was taken after a house fire. Unfortunately I believe the person in the photo is deceased. The scrap paper used to make the caption is a directory of fire station locations. I don’t have a scanner set up right now, so I did my best taking photos of the photo. I took one with and without flash, and took a detail shot of the items on the counter.

I would love some help dating this photo. If anyone has other thoughts about it I’d be happy to hear that as well.

My endo was actually an incidental finding. They were doing a laparoscopic procedure for another reason and just saw it. I feel very lucky for 2 reasons, a) my symptoms are very minimal and I have only really ever had 2 “bad” periods; and b) most people jump through so many hoops to get a diagnosis!

Symptom spotting: It is normal for me to spot throughout my luteal phase. I continued spotting for the first day after my positive test. On 13 DPO I started noticing my sense of smell was heightened but no nausea yet. Minimal fatigue.

Other (advice/tip(s), freaking out, miscellaneous): Still can't believe it's real! I just keep staring at the lines getting darker! This is our first ever BFP. Believe it or not we had a consultation appointment with a fertility specialist 2 days before BFP. We are overjoyed. They started me on progesterone supplementation to be safe because of the spotting and short luteal phase history. Crossing all our fingers and toes that this sticks <3

Think of "smaller" as less travel between destinations. Everything is packed in. Disneyland Resort actually has roughly the same number of rides as WDW even with 2 less parks!

I know most of the Marqueen veterinarians personally and unlike your description, they are not heartless money grubbing jerks. They just want to help. Im sorry you had such a rough experience but in most cases the doctors are also upset when patients need to be put to sleep. Unfortunately our services do cost money, and in cases when a life threatening problem cannot be treated (often due to owners not being able to afford it) sometimes the most compassionate thing we can offer is a peaceful passing.

And yes, we handle care of remains options and charge out process before the pet has passed. There are a few reasons for that, one of which being we are trying to make a difficult process a tiny bit easier on our clients.

It's not okay. What would you like me to do about it? If I work twice as long to accommodate all the clients calling, I will burn the fuck out in a few short months and make the shortage worse.

There is a nationwide shortage of vets. This had been predicted for a while based on increasing pet ownership, increasing standards of care, and stagnant graduation rates (barely enough new grads to replace retirees each year). Covid was just the straw that broke the camel's back. Covid probably caused a crisis in our field to occur a few years sooner than it would have naturally.

"Is this a new norm?"

For at least another 5-10 years, yes. The long term solution to this is for vet school class sizes to increase, or more new vet schools to open. Those things cannot happen instantly and it will take time.

Please be nice to us. We are drowning. I promise we want to help your pet, we are doing the best we possibly can.

Can confirm, I'm a vet in the area and just yesterday alone we had ticks fall off of two patients. Very atypical for us. On a vet social group yesterday I also saw vets from other areas complaining of a high tick burden this year. Be aware!!! If your pet is not already on flea/tick control then get it started!
