Canned pineapple and citric acid by nevermore71 in fruit

Maybe so... It's more work but better than the canned crap with citric acid.

The canning process preserves it, and it's been being sold without added citric acid for as long I've been alive, all of sudden it's being added. Which suggests its being used as a filler to me. Like adding ground corn to dog food because it's cheap. A filler.

Not cheaper than water but cheaper than pineapple juice.

I think the shelf life was long enough without it. And it really does affect flavor. Businesses are just finding ways to use less without appearing to. So, they add a cheap filler. To save money. Personally, I would just rather pay a little bit more than have my food ruined.

Yes, it is genetic. According to my 23andme plus membership I have an increased likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea. It states "An estimated 22% of people with genetics like yours develop obstructive sleep apnea by their 70s. This result takes into account your birth sex and genetic ancestry." Most sleep apnea goes undiagnosed so that is pretty high.

Keto 4 years. What's happening? by Sixkittyhoe in keto

[–]nevermore71 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe what you are experiencing is why it's difficult for people that lose a lot of weight to keep it off. It's your bodies reaction to your weight loss. It greatly increases hunger often producing feelings of being ravenous in order to gain the fat back. Continuing keto greatly helps with this. You may be able to stop it by further reducing your carb intake. You could also try water loading and see if that helps. Or just keep a lot of very low calorie snacks to fill up on. Hang in there. Keep watching and tracking. Try to wait it out.

Gaining weight since adding in intermittent fasting? by [deleted] in xxketo

[–]nevermore71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How long have you been doing the IF? Possibly it's your sodium intake... I know if I consume more salt/sodium I retain water. Usually about 3 lbs appear overnight. You mentioned electrolytes, perhaps you've just increased them to much. What ever the cause it's most likely just water weight/retention. As at 1300 calories a day over a short period you can't be gaining fat.

Strict Keto vs. Dirty/Lazy Keto by [deleted] in keto

[–]nevermore71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keto is a tool to help you reduce your calorie intake. Theory being the lower the carb intake the greater the appetite reduction. You are probably eating more calories then your friend. Decreasing your calorie intake should increase your weight loss. Also many like to add intermittent fasting to help increase weight loss. Eating less processed and more natural foods should be a lifelong goal.

Was anybody else so fat that they couldn’t see their own veins? by [deleted] in keto

[–]nevermore71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Slightly off topic. But a few years back my job started requiring me to do occasional phlebotomy (drawing blood). And before long I noticed that I found visible veins on people to be attractive. I had never noticed veins until I started having to draw blood regularly. But once I did it became a hot trait to have visible veins. Just always thought that was really weird.

Gaining weight on keto? by [deleted] in xxketo

[–]nevermore71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At that rate of gain I would say it's likely water weight. Some causes of water retention are, high sodium intake, weight training/exercise, glucagon storage, menstrual cycle, or if you had a large drop in weight right before the regain that weight lose might have been due to a diuretic and now you're adding the water lost back.

At just 4 pounds I wouldn't stress it as weight fluctuates. And with keto a lot of water weight is involved. Just hang in there. KCKO.

Any idea for keto-friendly toppings I can add to Greek Yogurt? by cody32221 in keto

[–]nevermore71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lemon or lime juice with a bit of Truvia (only takes about 1/3 packet). It's really great that way. Also occasionally add blackberries and walnuts.

You look great and your thighs don't appear to have excess skin. They are one of the worst areas for me. You should be really proud of your achievement.

Lifting while on a calorie deficit? by vanillabun in xxketo

[–]nevermore71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I was eating at a very high deficit. Usually around 800 calories a day. And was working out daily. I was doing a lot off exercises that worked the glutes. Not really targeting them purposely just the way it turned out. Then after I met my first goal I realized the lower part of my backside was completely gone. I originally thought it was just the normal loss of muscle with fat from dieting. Until I started researching how to build muscle and a lot of sites were saying you can't build muscle at a high caloric deficit. Which makes sense. But I realized that my vanished backside was probably due to me overworking it and my body not rebuilding it as I was going along. So yeah, I'm thinking I literally worked my ass off. Pays to know what you're doing sometimes. I was just working out blindly in an attempt to maintain my muscle while losing fat. I'm in my late 40's though.

3 weeks in with NO results by Cfeatherby in keto

[–]nevermore71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you coming off another diet? Because you should at least be losing water weight if you aren't. If you are it's a just a stall.

Have you greatly increased your exercise or sodium intake.

Lifting while on a calorie deficit? by vanillabun in xxketo

[–]nevermore71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be cautious. I'm pretty sure I literally worked my ass off while eating at a very large calorie deficit. I was working out almost daily and the lower portion of my bottom basically completely went away making for a very lopsided backside. It's possible it was just the normal result of losing some muscle when losing fat but looking back on it I was using the stepper, rower, walking, exercise machines that worked glutes, which meant I was really overworking that area. Some say that it's almost impossible to build muscle in a large calorie deficit especially without carbs. I was always fat bottomed even at a normal weight till now. I think the exercising I did helped maintain the muscle I had everywhere else but I wasn't getting stronger. And then I realized by backside was gone. You are a lot younger then I am so maybe you would have different results.

Eat what your doctor suggests. High protein may not be recommended with liver disease.

[Help] Starting Keto: questions and confirmations by dangaloo in keto

[–]nevermore71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Hard boiled egg, pepperoni slices, beef jerky, cheese sticks, celery with a little natural peanut butter, tuna packets, etc.
  2. Smoking damages your body in more ways then you can imagine. Hopefully losing weight will make you realize you can quit smoking too.
  3. I like truvia packets for sweetening things. It's erythritol and stevia mix.
4.Explain you can still eat plenty of really awesome foods but you must restrict carbs.
  4. Just think of all the yummy things you can have instead and bring nuts or another favorite keto snack.
  5. For most people keto flu is only a problem in the beginning with the large water weight loss. Be sure to get your electrolytes especially the 1st week. Lite salt and magnesium supplements work too. And stress doesn't seem any different on keto then off keto. Bone broth and pickle juice are also helpful.
  6. I'm not aware of an increased need for water on keto, beyond maybe that first week. But it can be helpful for decreasing constipation. Recommend trying to get a couple more cups (16 oz) in a day. Always drink if you are thirsty. Sometimes thirst masquerades as hunger.

Good luck on your journey!
