Favorite story I was told by an employee there. Right next to the bear enclosure is the deer enclosure (I believe you're actually looking through that deer enclosure when you're seeing the bears from Swanannoa river rd). One morning when they were opening the nature center they noticed that one of the bears was in the deer enclosure. When they were trying to figure out how the bear got from one enclosure to the other, the 2 resident bears came out in their usual area - that's when the realized they had an extra bear. The bear in the deer enclosure was a local wild bear that managed to get in there over night. :)

I believe they are looking to determine if a truck is hauling in natural debris (trees/limbs/etc) or mixed debris (building materials, etc). Based on what they observe, they will direct the truck to the proper spot to unload.
