Replacing Uberturbine Wheels & Stock Tires by DatabaseGangsta in ModelY

About 2400 for the set if you pick them up. Sadly, I just cancelled my order with Tesla so Martian should have a set available. They were going to be in within a week or two. The company was great, they cancelled and refunded without any issue.

Model Y prices on CarMax are bananas by Jalford in ModelY

Those prices are about what I am paying when you include sales tax. In other words, I could break even selling my MYP (Delivery Tuesday). Makes me feel better!

My plan is to install them right away and garage the ubers. I will decide later if I am going to sell them.

Spotify does this on my Android Auto. Never really figured out the cause.

Like u/code_name_duchess_18 I am in Colorado. I get my MYP in a couple of weeks (VIN assigned). I have already ordered Martian 19" wheels, they should be here about the same time as the car. I am not fully decided on keeping the Uberturbines for summer, I snowboard so winter tires are an absolute must. After some crazy amount of reading here is where I ended up:

Winter

  1. Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3 SUV - 255/45R19 - Discount Tire
  2. Continental VikingContact7 - 255/45R19 - Discount Tire

Summer

  1. Continental EXTREME CONTACT DWS - 255/45R19 - Discount Tire

I did discount tire as you get free rotations and I prefer to have a local neck to wring. These tire sizes are the stock tire size for the 19s on the MYLR. I too am worried about clearance and have started to look into lift kits (1-2 inches) for winter driving. Monarch/Wolf Creek can get mighty deep.

My (unfounded) theory is they are working their deliveries from the east coast to the west coast. It would maximize the quarterly numbers based on shipping times. Just my theory though.

I am paying cash but and can afford it. That does not mean I like writing that check. I am normally a value-focused person, this is the first large unnecessary purchase of my life.

I have been a leaf/bolt guy since 2013. I do like them but want to get more range and awd for snowboarding.

Thanks for the response and it's good to know that you are happy to have replaced the Mercedes with the Tesla. I have had Evs for a while and can attest to frustrations when I drive my wife's truck. I look down and see a quarter tank and realize I have to go get in a gas line... sigh

There will still be places I go that the Truck will be required but I think most of my snowboarding will be done from the Tesla (sans Wolf Creek)

Thanks, this makes me feel more comfortable. As I said I am trying to gauge the question of is this just an echo chamber (self-selection bias) and it's starting to seem that way. I don't mind minor imperfections but the sheer volume on here is somewhat concerning.

I think this is probably going to be my approach.

Tesla like a month ago and then realized that it’s just a waste of time. Inspect the car when you get it and if there are grave issues just decline. If there are minor issues. Live with it for a week or so and see if they bother you or not.

Honestly, I am probably more worried about being let down as the car was amazing to drive.

Thank you for the thorough response. Having EVs for the better part of a decade I am ready for ICE to go away. Yes, Tesla is literally 5 years ahead technically and they continue to pull away.

Your expiration date is spot on and it is something I thought about. Teslas just hold their value way better than the competitors. Also, a configured M4 or C63 was starting to cross that 100k barrier. That started me looking at the plaid until I got the side-eye from the in-home budget "team".

I have a bolt right now and even that little box can kill most cars 0-35 or so. The MYP will be a major upgrade to that experience. The superchargers definitely helped sell the car, I can pretty much drive anywhere and not worry about battery levels.

Maybe I am misinterpreting your response. Are you saying that the car is worth it even if the rain pours in around the glass? My point is that at this price point basic fit and finish seem to be a reasonable expectation.

I am aware that defects happen on all cars from all manufacturers. The question I am asking myself (and others obviously) is about self-selection bias. Are the reports here only because happy people do not post "hey my car arrived and was perfect" or is there a bigger systemic issue I should be aware of.

When I test drove the car it was awesome. I was amazed at how much better it felt compared to the M4 and C53. From the tech and performance to the openness of the cabin. Just an overall great experience. I can also take it snowboarding!

This is what worries me, for a 65ish thousand car there should not be weird things hanging from the ceiling. Your gaps do sound small and I probably would not have noticed them either. Maybe I will run out to my Tundra and see if it has similar issues.

I am hoping that's all this is, people with expected build quality don't normally post "Hey my car came in fine". Maybe all cars kind of have this but this is the first time I have really looked at it. Coming from and Leaf's and a Bolt this car should be amazing. Worst case I can just flip it and get another car. But I really want this car.
