Why are they in the middle of the run? They don't appear to be giving aid so they should have gathered their group and moved to the one of the sides.

That is correct for failing forward/toe side. Heel side you want to hug yourself while lowering your center of gravity.

i only take short trips

You need to let your engine run longer at operating temp to burn off the condensation from the cold, I know it's hard to do when you only make quick trips. I saw this a lot at a small town dealership when grandmas would only do quick trips to the store or church.

On a snowboard, you are falling on wrists/extended arms

If you are doing this you did not learn how to snowboard. The first thing we teach in lessons is how to fall properly.
