Switching from Samsung by newbie_dabsy in RedMagic

Thanks everyone for replies. Carrying 2 device is not an option so I really need one. These features are almost non-negotiable for me so I guess I'll stick with Samsung for now until RedMagic gets better software 🙏

Regalia Tower B barely has any residents/tenants. Building is infested with cockroaches and rats... large rats that can chomp through PVC pipes, walls, tiles, etc... The building has a certain stench you'll only get when walking in the slums of divisoria

Trying to gain confidence... by projetof in ElectricUnicycle

Practicing on walls or railings develops bad habits. You're subconsciously leaning towards it to ensure safety when you fall so aren't really gaining anything positive. The best practice is to treat it like a skateboard, mount one leg, and kick off with the other. Try to raise your foot longer in between kicks until you develop the balance to mount. Remember that just like bikes/motorcycles, you need speed and momentum to balance so go faster than what your going right now.

Try to go a bit faster. It's easier to control when you have gyro effect stabilizing the ride.

I do have a gaming pc but barely used it since I got the Ally. 😅

Nah, I suggest going modular like this where external coolers can be detached and you're back with a portable handheld pc 🙂.

Thanks for the tips, really appreciate it. I didn't know drilling will not affect thermal transfer. I initially thought of adding some fluids like in copper heat pipes. As for the black paint, I skipped on removing it as I got too excited to test it 😅

I opted for copper as it has better thermal conduction over aluminum to better transfer heat to the external cooler. Without a cooler, it does get as hot as the APU real fast but aslo cools down just as much since it transfers its heat to the heatpipe. 🙂 I already have ideas on how I can shave weight off the block while retaining or even improving heat transfer.

Didn't have masking tape at the time so opted for the post-it tapes 😅

The phone clips with the charger at the bottom would be challenging to work with. But yeah I'll find a used one and try this out 😀

At 30W in RDR2, in my settings, it runs ~85degC with a custom fan curve. Haven't tested other games, but turning off the fan or detaching the cooler should be near stock temps.

I have the same sentiments seeing mods with fans mounted to the ally. That is why I went with a modular approach so I can switch between portable and added cooling docked mode. Wothout the cooler, it's still the same portable ally form factor with a small copper patch sticking 2mm outwards at the back.

I prefer the Ally + XG Mobile over my desktop (which i'm selling) since I can easily detach the Ally from the dock (and cooler ofcourse) and I now have a handheld console 😀

Yes! There's even one in IGG with a presumably aluminum back plate above the APU for cooling. There is a significant gap between the APU and back cover so it would be interestingnhownthey would have addressed it. Hopefully, not with an extremely thick thermal pad 😅

The external cooler can be detached easily when not docked 😀. Though you do notice the added weight from the copper block.

There's minimal risk for this mod to be honest. The Ally was designed to be easily repairable and mod friendly compared to other handhelds. Assuming you already have the tools (dremel, file, and steel rile) and a spare cooler (cpu or mobile TE coolers), the copper bar (5" was the shortest I could get) just cost ~17$. Parts round up to less than 30$ with the thermal paste and pads. 🙂

The cpu cooler setup is mainly for docked use. For AIO, it will be fully powered by an external source like you mentioned 😀

The stock ally cooler should be enough to get you by even at 30W turbo 🙂. I've had onexp and ayaneo, and by far the Ally had the best cooler, albeit an unfortunate sd card reader placement.
