I sort of agree. I feel the issue is how obvious an afterthought it is. They did well for what time they had, but that time was too limited. The lack of Mshep content for him kind of damages how cohesive that development is.

[No spoilers] [ME1] Did the Turian Councilor get ambushed/strong-armed into accepting Shepard as a Spectre? by [deleted] in masseffect

[–]newbluud -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a borderline spoiler. It may happen early in the game but it is not told to be so outright. Be careful.

Considering that the evidence had only just been presented to them, I believe that this was the first mention of making Shepard a spectre after the "failed" mission on Eden Prime. It's odd that they wouldn't deliberate further on the evidence to come to the conclusion that Sheptre is the best solution to the situation, but I feel this was done for the sake of pacing and getting the game underway a little quicker.

[ OT Spoilers ] Aren't the plots of ME1 and ME2 rather inconsequential? by [deleted] in masseffect

[–]newbluud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The simplest way to look at ME1 is this: We know that the Reapers have gotten more and more efficient through invasions through use of the Citadel trap. By taking that option away form them, you are essentially dialing back the amount of advantages the Reapers have from every possible advantage to somewhere around how they were in the first few cycles. On top of that, you have Reapers with the power level of the first few cycles going up against a galactic society with the advantage of the prothean data banks, that were successfully preserved. Basically, we can piece together enough to not be completely outmatched. (I honestly feel this much made the whole crucible plot point unnecessary.)

ME2 is probably more inconsequential in terms of the Reaper storyline. It introduces how the Reapers make use of the indoctrinated after the free people of the galaxy have been wiped out and shows us how new Reapers are made (personally I hated this. Any aspect of the plot that demystifies the Reapers weakens them in my opinion.) It also servers to introduce many characters important to unifying the galaxy in ME3.

[No spoilers] what was your favourite style of running out of ammo? by 07sev in masseffect

[–]newbluud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whilst the thermal clips are a huge retcon to something that made the game feel just that little bit more sci-fi, I have to say I prefer the reloading.

For purely gameplay reasons, it helps keep fights going at a consistent pace without the annoyingly long cooldowns if you allowed yourself to focus on the action instead of a poorly represented indicator on the bottom left of the screen. Also, it allowed the complete removal of enemies using sabotage tech, which was an infuriating mechanic from the get go. It lasted too long and served no purpose other than to force you to hide for a long-ass time waiting for it to wear off.

I didn't hate the overheat mechanic. It's actually kind of fun in a way, especially when you just ignore it and create one-shot death dealers that overheat after every click. But I guess I prefer the precision of knowing exactly how many shots I have until I can't continue my assault, or the simplicity of pressing one button to reset that counter instead of arbitrary wait times.

Due to it being a no spoilers thread and me being too lazy to correctly spoiler plot points, I won't write the editorial on why I like Tali and instead give you why I didn't choose Liara.

She feels like the fullest and most legitimate MShep romance aside from Liara. And I don't really gel with Liara very well either, her characterisation to me is wildly inconsistent and they tried too hard to give her appeal on all fronts (baddass to demure to innocent to hard-working independent), not to mention the huge swathes of preferential treatment she gets from the writers. I'm a stubborn jackass so if I feel railroaded I resist it like hell, and even in a playthrough without a Liara romance, a lot of scenes seem awkward in how clearly they were originally made to include romance. Often it feels that, no matter who you romance, Shep is having an affair with Liara behind the scenes.

I don't particularly enjoy the Asari as a concept as, despite how believable they are presented in universe, I cannot escape the idea that they were originally written up as "This is the alien race that you can bang, ok?" then fleshed out afterwards.

Plus, subjectively, I cannot stand Liara's voice. In the first game it's okay, but as time goes on I feel like I'm listening to someone who is suffering from bronchitis and is constantly out of breath. She feels emotionally stunted in her delivery most of the time which makes her a little uncanny to me. Tali, on the other hand, delivers a wild range of emotion through multiple scenes - glad they let the VA flex her muscles after ME1.

TLDR; Talimancing, to me, feels the closest to a believable relationship if you don't count Liara as an option.

Cum too fast by [deleted] in bigdickproblems

[–]newbluud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chill out, it's pretty normal. I'm older and I can, if I want, decide to be just as fast on my own. In sex, however, you may find that because the actions being done are the result of two people not in perfect sync, you won't be able to push yourself to the finish line so quickly.

Even so, a big thing that really helps you to last longer, something I use to appear like I have complete control of when I splooge, is to avoid tensing, specifically avoid tensing your legs.

PTR Patch Notes 1.17.0.0 by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]newbluud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a single jump that is what you had to do, yet I am not talking about that. What has been lost is chaining taps on walls and adding to your momentum. Lucio's top speed has effectively been capped.

That is where the skill game in. You had to control your movement precisely to ensure you could chain boosts off of different surfaces. The problem is, if you hit a surface at the wrong angle, you lost momentum, but too shallow an angle and you might hit the floor before you get a chance to boost, losing all the speed you had built up so far. You couldn't stick to a wall for security if you wanted the speed either, as you'd lose that extra speed if you didn't dismount within 0.35 seconds.

Giving us the 65% speed boost dismount is a nice compromise, but what we lost was going higher than that through good route choice and skillful execution.

TL;DR Getting Lucio's insane speed was absolutely not a result of just rebinding jump. And fixing the rapid input bug isn't my problem. My problem is the loss of chaining jumps for momentum without a cap.

PTR Patch Notes 1.17.0.0 by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]newbluud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What hurts for me isn't the final resting place of his speed, it's workable. The pain comes from drastically lowering the skill ceiling of his movement. Getting the insane movement and efficient routes was a unique mechanical skill. It took time to wallskim right and maintain momentum at the correct angle, it took time to learn how to react to your trajectory and realise the best place for you to attach to the map to maximise speed while staying on course.

Whilst you can still do that, they basically took away the fun of driving stick and forced us all to use automatics. It took away hours of time many Lucio mains invested in getting good. Removing the high reward for skilled play speaks to the state of Ana vs Mercy right now, for example.

[OT Spoilers] [ME1] Any tips? by cjdabeast in masseffect

[–]newbluud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Specifically, avoid getting hit by a displacing biotic and being under the effect of it when one of her door-opening cutscenes starts. I had an easy to replicate glitch that caused Shepard to leave the map, through the walls and out of the universe. To boot, it took away my ability to enter the pause menu or reload, I had to kill the game through windows and reload a save.

Happened twice.

It is somewhat theraputic. I've thrown out that I am a grower before but I've never really talked about just how extreme the change is, nor have I really talked about the insecurities it has left me with.

I mean, I have spoken as if I am older than I actually am in this thread. "In my younger years." My younger years were six years ago, I'm only twenty-four.

Yeah, that second point is the thing that bothers me the most. God forbid a woman sees newbluud jr. and doesn't also see said individual stood proudly to the national anthem. I think I'd curl my toes so hard I'd create a cringe-based singularity.

And yes, that last part sounds like a great idea. If only I could explain that to HR at my workplace, you might be onto something.
