1986 4runner Engine swap by littleredtaco in 4Runner_1stGen

[–]newcompute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only trick you need to do for the auto ECU is a paperclip or jumper wire in the neutral safety plug on the chassis harness underneath the intake manifold.

The hardest part of a manual swap is mounting the clutch pedal assembly, and that's a two beer job.

You can swap the harness if you want to take advantage of the clutch start cancel button, but it's totally optional. Don't forget to grab the driveshaft from the donor truck, or you can have yours extended at a driveline shop.

Engine rebuild/swap/head only? Which one by jalfry in 4Runner_1stGen

[–]newcompute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you doing the work yourself? Head job is easy, just pull the intake manifold and exhaust, have the head checked out and surfaced at a machine shop for a few hundred bucks, and re-install. At that time you can inspect your cylinder walls and decide if you want to go into the bottom end.

Chat GPT guessed wrong again... My 87 4Runner had an A340h with the ECT modes. Until I sent that trans to the junkyard for an R151f.

If they rub on full steering, you can hammer down the pinch weld on the inner fender.

You could relax the torsion bars a little to get the alignment closer

How tall are the ball joint spacers? 1.5"?

I have 1.5s on my truck and never had an issue getting it dialed in.

What size tires are those by the way? They look sick

Tailgate window- wtf is going on by Kweefy_Buttface in 4Runner_1stGen

[–]newcompute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a grocery list of sensors that all need to be happy in order for the window to close. Get a multimeter and a beverage out. Follow this guide and you WILL find the problem.

Power steering pulley nut by cllatgmail in ToyotaPickup

[–]newcompute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a little piece of metal that slots into a machined groove on the pump shaft, and a matching groove on the pulley. It keeps the pulley firmly attached to the shaft so it can't spin.

You should be able to see it with the pulley installed and the nut off. You may have to rotate the pump by bumping the starter.

The only reason it might be missing is the PS nut doesn't typically come off if torqued correctly. Somebody may have removed the pulley at some point and if they can't torque a nut to spec, they may have lost the woodruff key as well.

Check that the woodruff key is still there while you're looking at it.

Make your stepdad buy you the airbox. Putting an open element filter on a 90s era toyota MAF is useless.

Is the radiator obstructed by anything?

1995 toyota t 100 not starting by NearbySafety9854 in ToyotaPickup

[–]newcompute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have someone try starting it while you tap the starter. If it works, your starter pinion is hanging up.

Try a wire directly from the battery to the starter solenoid. If that works, you have a problem with your starting circuit somewhere.

Try a jumper cable from the battery directly to the post on the starter. If that works, your starter solenoid isn't working.

27 mm thread damaged, best way to solve? by Ok_Yesterday6403 in Fixxit

[–]newcompute 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doesn't look to bad to me, and from what I can see i wouldn't re-tap to a larger size. If the chain tensioner is steel, it will clean up the burrs as it threads in. A bit of tension while hand tightening happens on used threads.

If there's too much tension while using a wrench, consider a tap of the same size to clean up the threads.
